Lauheit.... weakness of will.... slackness in prayer....

The more lukewarm a person is, the stronger the influence he has to fear from the adversary. He then neither offers resistance nor strives for God's strength and is therefore in the greatest danger of becoming weak and succumbing. He should always bear in mind that the ascent to the heights is arduous and that a slackening of his willpower very easily results in a step backwards, which requires renewed effort in order to catch up. The adversary is vigilant, i.e. he does not miss a single moment of a person's weakness, but the latter should also be vigilant so that he does not expose his soul to the danger of being oppressed by the adversary. And the weaker he feels, the more fervently he should pray for strength. But even if he begins to become lukewarm in prayer, the adversary's power over him is great. And yet he cannot be spared the struggle against this power. Spiritual beings certainly stand by him, but their help has to be requested because they cannot become active without the call. And in hours of weakness of will the human being often omits this call as well, and then he is defencelessly at the mercy of the adversary's power. And he has to fight the battle against him himself, which is often very difficult. And it is always the weakening of prayer that causes his willpower to weaken. The more often and more intimately a person unites himself with God, the less he is exposed to the influences of the enemy, because both at the same time, the power from God and the power of the adversary, cannot be effective. But the power from God is always stronger and excludes every activity of evil forces. In hours of need, of lukewarmness and weakness of will, a heartfelt call for the support of good beings suffices and the work of those beings will already be stopped. Only the will to do good must still be present in the human being, and soon the fervour of prayer will also increase again and the human being will have escaped the danger....

Lauheit.... Willensschwäche.... Nachlassen im Gebet....

Je lauer der Mensch ist, desto stärkeren Einfluß hat er von seiten des Widersachers zu befürchten. Er bietet dann weder Widerstand, noch erstrebt er die Kraft Gottes, und also ist er in der größten Gefahr, schwach zu werden und zu unterliegen. Er soll sich immer vor Augen halten, daß der Aufstieg zur Höhe mühsam ist und daß ein Nachlassen seiner Willensstärke sehr leicht einen Rückschritt zur Folge hat, der wieder Kraftanstrengung fordert, um eingeholt zu werden. Der Widersacher ist wachsam, d.h., er verpaßt keinen Moment der Schwäche des Menschen, ebenso soll aber auch dieser wachsam sein, auf daß er seine Seele nicht der Gefahr aussetzt, vom Widersacher bedrängt zu werden. Und er soll desto eifriger beten um Kraft, je schwächer er sich fühlt. Doch so er auch im Gebet lau zu werden beginnt, ist die Gewalt des Gegners über ihn groß. Und doch kann ihm das Ringen wider diese Gewalt dann nicht erspart bleiben. Es stehen ihm wohl geistige Wesen bei, jedoch muß deren Hilfe angefordert werden, weil sie ohne den Anruf nicht tätig werden können. Und der Mensch unterläßt oft in Stunden der Willensschwäche auch diesen Anruf, und dann ist er der Macht des Gegners schutzlos ausgeliefert. Und er muß selbst den Kampf ausfechten gegen ihn, der oft sehr schwer ist. Und immer ist es das Nachlassen im Gebet, was seine Willensstärke erlahmen läßt. Je öfter und inniger der Mensch mit Gott sich verbindet, desto weniger ist er den Einflüssen des Feindes ausgesetzt, denn beides zugleich, die Kraft aus Gott und die Macht des Widersachers, kann nicht wirksam werden. Immer aber ist die Kraft aus Gott stärker und scheidet jedes Wirken böser Kräfte aus. In Stunden der Not, der Lauheit und Willensschwäche genügt ein inniger Anruf um Unterstützung guter Wesen, und es wird dem Wirken jener schon Einhalt geboten. Nur der Wille zum Guten muß im Menschen noch vorhanden sein, und bald wird auch die Innigkeit des Gebetes wieder zunehmen, und der Mensch ist der Gefahr entronnen....
