Food for the soul.... spiritual food....
Purely spiritual food is the nourishment of the soul, which can only be offered to you from above. It is a favour from God, which man cannot measure, for He gives man something undeserved, as it were. He gives him loving means for the soul's higher development, He makes everything available to him through which the human being can attain perfection. He pours out divine grace upon the earthly child in the most abundant measure in order to make the path upwards passable for him, and thus He instructs people. And this instruction is the bread of heaven, spiritual nourishment for the soul. Man also needs nourishment to maintain his body, and this is always and constantly imparted to him through God's goodness. But the nourishment the soul needs is of a different kind. The soul can only be considered spiritually because it is the union of spiritual potencies, which are therefore of spiritual origin. These soul potencies must now be supplied with something which is supernatural, which is taken from the spiritual kingdom and can only be perceived by the soul with the spiritual eye. And so the soul is now fed with a nourishment that contributes to the increase of the spiritual, the soul is spiritualized as it were, which was previously turned towards the earthly. For if the soul is only given earthly sustenance it starves and suffers terribly from its meagerness. However, if it is offered spiritual nourishment, its condition is freer.... (interruption)

Voedsel voor de ziel – Geestelijke kost
Zuiver geestelijke kost is het voedsel voor de ziel, dat jullie alleen van boven gegeven kan worden. Ze is een genade van God, welke de mens niet in zijn volle omvang beseffen kan, want Hij geeft de mens als het ware iets, dat het niet verdient. Hij geeft hem liefdevolle middelen voor de opwaartse ontwikkeling van de ziel. Hij stelt hem alles ter beschikking, waardoor de mens tot volmaaktheid kan komen. Hij stort in overvloedige mate de goddelijke genade over het mensenkind uit om de weg omhoog gangbaar voor hem te maken en daarom onderwijst Hij de mensen. En dit onderricht is het brood van de hemel, het geestelijke voedsel voor de ziel.
De mens heeft voor de instandhouding van het lichaam eveneens voedsel nodig en deze wordt hem door Gods goedheid voortdurend gegeven. Maar het voedsel welke de ziel nodig heeft, is van een andere aard. De ziel kan alleen maar geestelijk bedacht worden, omdat ze immers de vereniging van geestelijke kracht is, die dus een geestelijke oorsprong heeft. Deze zielenkracht moet iets toegevoerd worden wat bovenaards is, wat aan het geestelijke rijk ontnomen is en alleen met geestelijke ogen waarneembaar is voor de ziel.
En zo wordt de ziel nu voorzien van voedsel, dat aan de toename van het geestelijke bijdraagt. De ziel, die voorheen naar het aardse toegekeerd was, wordt in zekere zin vergeestelijkt. Want als de ziel louter aards bedacht wordt, lijdt ze gebrek en ze lijdt verschrikkelijk onder haar behoeftigheid. Als haar echter geestelijk voedsel gegeven wordt, dan is haar toestand vrijer.
