Fulfilment of the commandment of love demanded of all....

I have given you a commandment that you should love one another, and if you keep this commandment you fulfil My will. But I have not made your maturity of soul dependent on the fulfilment of earthly commandments, which, however, is clearly taught to people. But it is far better to disregard such humanly decreed commandments than to obey them without remembering My commandment of love, for I don't value the former even though they are scrupulously obeyed. It is of such great importance that people are enlightened as to what My will consists of and what is pleasing in My sight. For they have long since ceased to have a standard for this, and they do not recognize their spiritual shortcomings. Therefore it is advisable to comply with My commandment with all diligence and perseverance, to make My will their own and now work on themselves so that My love can permeate them and they will only accept My will.

(23.5.1947) The more the human being makes My will the guideline for his way of life the more he conforms to My nature, whereas the fulfilment of humanly issued commandments does not result in a change of his nature. But My will is to fulfil the commandment of neighbourly love, by which he also testifies to his love for Me at the same time. And this neighbourly love should always and constantly be practiced.... A person can shape himself into love, he can be so permeated by love for his neighbour that it will cause him to be constantly active, that it will therefore be the driving force of his thinking, speaking and acting. Then he will also be an example to his fellow human beings, he will not only exemplify to them the right life on earth which is pleasing to Me but the effect of his life of love will also be recognizable.... He will be filled by My spirit, that is, he will receive truthful knowledge from Me and be able to pass it on to his fellow human beings. But the effect of active neighbourly love is at the same time evidence of increasing maturity of soul and also proof of the significance of fulfilling My commandment of love. People do not take My commandment seriously enough, and yet it is the most important thing of their earthly existence, for their whole life in eternity depends on its fulfilment. So what is more understandable than that I gave this commandment to My disciples with the instruction to go into the world and teach all nations, to enlighten them about the effect of a life of love and the bad consequences of unkindness, so that they could reach maturity of soul while still on earth? I Myself preached love on earth, I Myself exemplified a life of love to them, and I Myself demonstrated to them the wisdom and miraculous power I attained through love.... And I admonished all who took it seriously to follow Me.... Yet people do not comply with it, yet with fanatical zeal they observe what people have added to My commandment of love but which has not the slightest connection with unselfish neighbourly love. And they consider My commandments unworkable.... and thereby prove to themselves that they don't believe in the truth of My word, in My wisdom and My love, otherwise they would have to accept and also obey every word from My mouth without doubt. What I demand of people must always and forever also be feasible and able to be accepted by all people. And only free will can prevent them from practicing the unselfish neighbourly love I demand. And therefore the human being should first inform himself of My will, he should make it his own, thus give up his own will and completely merge into My will, but then he will also be able to carry it out, and that in every situation of life, because My commandment is not only given to individual people but to everyone, to the whole of humanity, which lives far away from love and is therefore also in greatest ignorance, because knowledge is only the result of a life of love which I have made a commandment to those who want to ascend and stand in brightest light....

모든 사람에게 사랑의 계명을 수행하는 일을 요구한다.

나는 너희에게 서로 사랑하라는 계명을 주었고, 너희가 이 계명을 지키면, 너희는 나의 뜻을 성취시킨 것이다. 그러나 나는 너희의 혼의 성숙을 사람들이 분명하게 가르침을 받는 세상 계명의 성취에 의존되게 하지 않았다. 그러나 사람이 내린 계명을 무시하는 일이, 사랑의 계명을 기억하지 않고 따르는 일보다 훨씬 낫다. 왜냐면 나는 사람이 내린 계명을 세심하게 따를지라도, 그런 일에 가치를 부여하지 않기 때문이다.

사람들이 나의 뜻이 무엇인지, 내 눈이 무엇을 기뻐하는지 설명을 받게 되는 일이 아주 중요하다. 왜냐면 그들은 오랫동안 이에 관한 기준이 없었고 그들의 영적으로 부족한 점을 깨닫지 못했기 때문이다. 그러므로 모든 부지런함과 인내로 이런 나의 계명에 순종하고, 내 의지를 자신의 의지로 만들고, 내 사랑이 이제 그 안으로 들어갈 수 있도록 자신에 대한 작업을 하여, 그가 이제 단지 나의 뜻만을 인정하는 일이 조언할 만한 일이다. (1947년 5월 23일) 사람이 더 많은 나의 뜻을 자신의 삶의 지침으로 삼을 수록, 그는 나의 성품을 더 많이 닮게 된다. 반면에 인간이 내린 계명을 성취시키는 일은 성품의 변화를 이루지 못한다.

그러나 나의 뜻은 이웃 사랑의 계명을 완수하는 일이다. 이를 통해 그는 또한 동시에 나를 향한 사랑을 증명한다. 이웃 사랑은 항상 지속적으로 행해야만 한다. 사람은 자신을 사랑으로 만들 수 있다. 그는 이웃을 향한 사랑에 너무 빠져, 이웃 사랑이 그의 생각과 말과 행동의 원동력이 될 수 있다. 그러면 그는 또한 이웃에게 모범이 될 것이고, 그는 이 땅에서 이웃에게 나를 기쁘게 하는 올바른 삶의 모범을 보여줄 뿐만 아니라 그의 사랑의 삶의 결과를 깨달을 수 있게 해줄 것이다. 그는 나의 영으로 충만하게 될 것이다. 즉 그는 나로부터 진리에 합당한 지식을 받고, 이런 지식을 이웃에게 전할 수 있게 될 것이다.

그러나 이웃 사랑을 행한 효과는 동시에 혼의 성숙이 이뤄지는 증거이고, 또한 나의 사랑 계명을 성취시키는 일의 중요성에 대한 증거이다. 사람들은 나의 계명을 충분히 진지하게 여기지 않는다. 그러나 나의 계명을 진지하게 여기는 일이 이 땅의 삶에서 가장 중요한 일이다. 왜냐면 영원 가운데 삶 전체가 계명의 성취에 달려 있기 때문이다. 그러므로 내가 나의 제자들에게 세상에 가서 모든 민족에게 이 계명을 가르치라는 사명을 주어, 사랑의 삶의 결과와 사랑 없음의 악한 결과에 대해 깨닫게 하여, 이로써 그들이 이 땅에서 혼의 성숙에 도달하게 한 일보다 더 이해하기 쉬운 일이 있느냐?

나 자신이 이 땅에서 사랑을 가르쳤고, 나 자신이 사람들에게 사랑의 삶의 모범을 보였고, 나 자신이 사랑을 통해 어떤 지혜와 기적의 힘을 얻었는지 사람들에게 증명했다. 나는 나의 계명을 진지하게 따르려는 모든 사람에게 권면했다. 그러나 사람들은 나의 계명에 관심을 갖지 않는다. 그러나 사람들은 사람이 나의 사랑의 계명에 추가한 것에, 하지만 자신의 유익을 구하지 않는 이웃사랑과는 조금도 관련이 없는 것에 광신적인 열심으로 주의를 기울이고, 그들은 나의 계명을 실현 불가능한 것으로 여긴다. 이로써 그들이 스스로 나의 말씀의 진리와 나의 지혜와 나의 사랑을 믿지 않는다는 증거를 보여준다. 그렇지 않다면 그들은 의심할 여지없이 내 입에서 나오는 모든 말씀을 영접하고 순종할 것이다.

내가 사람들에게 요구하는 일은 항상 영원히 실현가능해야 하고 모든 사람이 받아드릴 수 있어야만 한다. 단지 자유의지가 그들이 내가 요구하는 자신의 유익을 구하지 않는 이웃사랑을 행하는 것을 막을 수 있다. 그러므로 사람들이 먼저 나의 뜻을 깨닫게 해야 하고, 하나님의 의지를 자신의 의지로 만들어야 한다. 즉 자신의 의지를 포기하고, 전적으로 내 의지를 따라야 한다. 그러면 그는 또한 모든 삶의 형편 가운데 나의 뜻을 수행할 수 있게 될 것이다. 왜냐면 내 계명은 단지 개개인에게 준 것이 아니라, 사랑과는 거리가 먼 가운데 사는, 이로써 가장 무지한 모든 인류에게 준 것이기 때문이다. 왜냐면 깨달음은 단지 높은 곳에 도달하고, 가장 밝은 빛 가운데 서기 원하는 사람들에게 계명으로 준 사랑의 삶의 결과이기 때문이다.
