Traditional faith.... obedience.... free choice....

A clear judgement of what is truth and what is error will only be possible for a person who has the firm will to stand in the right knowledge. But this will is usually lacking in those whose faith has already been forced into a certain mould, who therefore have no faith of their own but only call a traditionally adopted one their own. A certain obedience has been nurtured in them, which God also credits to them as a virtue, as they believe that they are thereby also living in a way that is pleasing to Him. Nevertheless, man lacks something of importance.... the free decision, i.e. a realization that causes the free will to accept or reject what has traditionally been handed down to him. He has been taught obedience in such a way that he does not even consider taking a mental stand on the teachings he has been given. He feels neither entitled nor capable of scrutinizing and judging.... but accepts without contradiction everything that is conveyed to him by teachers, because he only assumes that they are telling the truth. He completely ignores human errors and inadequacies and recognizes the teachers unquestioningly as authorized and infallible. Nor does he himself use the gifts with which God has endowed him, reason and judgement, which are the prerogative of man over the animal and should therefore be used accordingly. Consequently, he cannot make any spiritual progress either, for this absolutely requires that he himself is intellectually active, i.e. that he uses his intellect and his free will in order to gain knowledge. But he is prevented from doing so, or he allows himself to be hindered by existing doctrines of faith which make the use of intellect or free will unnecessary, thus they are supposed to be accepted without thinking, but this can never result in a living faith. This is a deplorable state of affairs which is an obstacle to higher spiritual development, for such teachings are not suitable for kindling love for God, i.e. for bringing people closer to God. Every thinking person will experience it as spiritual freedom if he can deal with his own thoughts; if he is not forced to live in other people's thinking.... Likewise, he must also have the right to think through for himself what is offered to him as truth and to take a stand on it. For only then is his free will active and the human being makes a decision. Before that, however, it is not possible to speak of his own decision, and this is a shortcoming which greatly impairs the soul's higher development, which is why the bearers of truth and light-giving beings tirelessly fight against it....

La foi traditionnelle - l'obéissance - la libre décision

Un jugement clair de ce qui est Vérité et de ce qui est erreur sera possible seulement à l'homme qui a une volonté ferme d’être dans la juste connaissance. Mais cette volonté manque presque toujours à ceux dont la foi a déjà été forcée dans une forme déterminée, et qui donc n'ont pas une foi conquise, mais seulement une foi transmise traditionnellement. Ils ont été éduqué à pratiquer une certaine obéissance, et Dieu leur en tient même compte comme vertu, et ils croient en vivant ainsi être complaisant à Dieu. Malgré cela à l'homme il manque quelque chose d'important, la libre décision, c'est-à-dire une connaissance qui pousse la libre volonté à l'acceptation ou au refus de ce qui a été transmis par tradition. Il a été éduqué ainsi dans l'obéissance, et il ne fait pas un examen attentif afin de prendre mentalement position envers les enseignements qui lui ont été offerts. Il ne se sent ni autorisé ni capable d'examiner et de juger, mais il accepte sans contradiction tout ce qui est transmis des forces d'enseignement, parce qu'il suppose en elles seulement la Vérité. Il exclut totalement les erreurs et les insuffisances humaines et approuve les enseignants indubitablement comme autorisés et infaillibles. Lui-même n'emploie pas les Dons avec lesquels Dieu l'a pourvu, l'esprit et la force de jugement, qui sont le privilège de l'homme en comparaison de l'animal et donc ils doivent être respectivement utilisés. Il ne peut par conséquent enregistrer aucun progrès spirituel, parce que pour cela il est absolument nécessaire que lui-même soit actif mentalement, qu'il emploie son esprit et sa libre volonté pour arriver à la connaissance. Mais dans cela il est entravé, ou bien se laisse entraver au travers d’enseignements existants su la foi, qui rendent inutile une utilisation de l'esprit ou de la libre volonté car ils doivent être acceptés sans réflexion, chose qui ne peut jamais avoir pour conséquence une foi vivante. Cela est un empêchement qui est une entrave au développement spirituel vers le Haut, parce que de tels enseignements ne sont pas adéquats pour faire éclater l'amour pour Dieu, ni pour agir pour le rapprochement de Dieu. Chaque homme qui réfléchit percevra comme une liberté spirituelle lorsque lui-même peut s'occuper avec ses pensées ; lorsqu’il n'est pas forcé de vivre en entrant dans les pensées d'autres hommes. Ainsi il doit avoir le droit d’examiner à fond ce qui lui est offert comme Vérité et de prendre position. Parce que seulement alors sa libre volonté est active, et l'homme se décide. Mais sans cela on ne peut pas parler de sa décision, et cela est un manque qui porte extraordinairement atteinte au développement vers le Haut de l'âme, chose qui doit être combattue par les porteurs de la Vérité et par les êtres qui offrent la Lumière.
