Zonder strijd geen geestelijke vooruitgang

De mens zal steeds moeten worstelen, zolang hij op aarde verblijft. De weg omhoog kan nooit zonder moeite plaatsvinden, want het is het doel van het geestelijke in de laatste belichaming als mens dat hij zich tegenover weerstanden staande moet houden, dus strijdend zijn doel moet bereiken. Een leven zonder strijd zal geen geestelijke vooruitgang brengen. Daarom moet de mens in een bestaan, dat rijk is aan strijd en tegenstand, ook de mogelijkheid tot een geestelijke opwaartse ontwikkeling herkennen. Hij mag niet moe worden, maar moet zich handhaven, dus elke tegenstand overwinnen. Pas dan kan er van een succesvolle aardse levenswandel gesproken worden.

Aards succes is waardeloos, maar als de ziel door deze nood en strijd succes boekt, dan heeft ze veel gewonnen voor de eeuwigheid. Dan is ze voor de levensproef op aarde geslaagd, wat het enige doel van het bestaan op aarde is. Maar altijd staat de mens de genade van God ter beschikking, die hem helpt om elke strijd zegenrijk te doorstaan. En bijgevolg hoeft het leven ondanks strijd en tegenstand geen moeilijk leven te zijn, als de mens om de genade van God vraagt, want dan wordt hem de kracht toegestuurd om alle tegenstanden te overwinnen.

Zodra hij zijn aardse weg met God gaat, is geen strijd voor hem te zwaar. Hij wordt elke hindernis de baas en hij gaat in de ontwikkeling van zijn ziel voortdurend opwaarts. Want God legt de mens niets op, wat onoverwinnelijke voor hem zou zijn. Hij laat hem in dezelfde hoeveelheid hulp toekomen, zoals de mens deze begeert. Hij draagt de last voor hem, als Hem daarom gevraagd wordt. Hij is steeds tot hulp bereid, als de mens Hem roept. Zodoende moet de mens in het geloof staan, want alleen het geloof brengt hem ertoe om God aan te roepen.

Maar als het geloof zwak is, dan zal ook het gebed niet in vol vertrouwen naar Hem gestuurd worden en God kan de mens enkel overeenkomstig de diepte van zijn geloof bedenken. Er moet ook om een rotsvast geloof gevraagd worden als de mens zich niet sterk genoeg voelt. Er moet een voortdurend worstelen om een sterk geloof beginnen en het gebed om de genade van God moet dit worstelen ondersteunen.

En God laat geen vragend mensenkind tevergeefs roepen. Hij leidt de mens zo, dat zijn geloof verstevigd wordt, ofschoon hij niet zonder strijd zal blijven, want zijn wil om tegenstand te bieden, moet gestaald worden, omdat hij alleen dan maar voor wat de ziel betreft rijp kan worden, als de wil alle tegenstand overwint, die hem ten deel valt.

No spiritual progress without struggle....

Man will always have to struggle as long as he remains on earth. No ascent upwards can take place effortlessly, for this is the destiny of the spiritual being in the last embodiment as a human being, that he has to assert himself in the face of opposition, thus reach his goal by fighting. A life without struggle will not result in spiritual progress, therefore the human being should also recognize the possibility of spiritual higher development in an existence rich in struggles and opposition, he should not weaken but assert himself, thus overcome all resistance, only then can one speak of a successful earthly life. Earthly success is worthless, but if the soul achieves success through these hardships and struggles then it has gained much for eternity, then it has passed the test of earthly life, which is the only purpose of earthly existence. But the human being always has God's grace at his disposal, which helps him to victoriously overcome every battle. And consequently, life need not be very difficult despite struggle and resistance if the human being requests God's grace, for then he will receive the strength to overcome all opposition. As soon as he walks his earthly path with God, no struggle is too difficult for him; he masters all obstacles and constantly ascends in his spiritual development. For God imposes nothing on man that is insurmountable for him. He gives him His help in equal measure if the human being desires it; He carries the burden for him if He is asked for it; He is always ready to help if the human being calls upon Him. Thus man must stand in faith, for faith alone determines him to call upon God.... But if faith is weak, then prayer will not be sent to Him with full confidence either, and God can only consider the person according to the depth of his faith. Even undoubted faith must be prayed for if the person does not feel strong enough; a constant struggle for strong faith must begin and prayer for God's grace must support this struggle.... And God will not let a pleading earthly child call in vain.... He guides the human being such that his faith will be strengthened, although he will not remain without struggle, for his will shall be strengthened to resist, because he can only mature spiritually when the will overcomes all resistance it is given....
