De weldaad van het vrij komen – De kwellingen van het gebonden zijn

Het aardse leven is u gegeven om u los te maken uit de vorm. Wat dat betekent, valt voor u in het geestelijke rijk pas heel goed te begrijpen, waar elk omhulsel hinderlijk voor u is, omdat ze steeds een boei voor de geest betekent. En de geest blijft net zo lang gebonden, als er nog een aardse gedachte, een aards verlangen in de ziel aanwezig is, want dit is aan een bepaalde omgeving gebonden, die ze voor zichzelf door haar verlangen zelf schept.

De vrije geest daarentegen is heer over tijd en ruimte. Waar hij verblijven wil, daar is hij. Voor hem is elk geestelijk gebied toegankelijk, want zijn wil alleen is voldoende om hem daarheen te brengen, waar hij verblijven wil. Zijn wil kan alles tot stand brengen. Hij wordt door niets meer gehinderd en is zodoende volledig vrij. Hij heeft ook geen achteruitgang meer te vrezen, als hij eenmaal vrijgekomen is. Maar hij verwijdert zich ook niet helemaal van het nog in onvrijheid smachtend geestelijke, omdat hij in zichzelf aangespoord wordt om ook deze te helpen vrij te komen.

En de nog onvrije ziel voelt pas dan de weldaad van het vrij zijn, wanneer haar aardse verlangens beginnen af te nemen. Dan begint ook haar opwaartse gang, maar er kunnen eerst ondenkbaar lange tijden voorbijgaan, waarin ze niets doet om vrij te komen uit de vorm, die weliswaar niet meer uit aardse materialen bestaat, maar de ziel precies zo belast, dat ze deze als dwang of druk ervaart. Ze moet vaak lastige wegen gaan, waarvan ze gelooft deze nauwelijks te kunnen overwinnen. Ze moet ontberingen doorstaan, ofschoon ook op een andere manier dan op aarde, maar het lijden bedrukt haar niet minder dan op aarde.

En deze smartelijke toestand had ze op aarde gemakkelijk af kunnen wenden, want haar waren mogelijkheden gegeven om vrij te komen uit de vorm. Dit bewustzijn is kwellend en doet haar pijn toenemen, want ze beseft wel haar staat van lijden, maar niet op welke manier ze zich er ook in het hiernamaals van kan bevrijden.

Want deze kennis is pas het gevolg van haar wil om te willen helpen. Pas wanneer ze geen aandacht schenkt aan haar eigen lijden en de nood van de meevoelende ziel haar ter harte gaat. Wanneer ze deze zou willen helpen, wordt het duidelijk voor haar dat dit de enige weg is om ook zelf vrij te komen. Dat het werkzaam zijn in liefde ook in het hiernamaals succesvol is om de duistere omgeving te verlichten en in een iets lichtere omgeving te komen en het wordt lichter en vrijer voor de ziel, naarmate ze nu bereidwilliger is om de andere lijdende zielen te helpen.

Het vrije geestelijke helpt haar, doordat het de ziel onderwijst en haar adviezen geeft, maar zonder zelf herkend te worden in zijn overvloed aan licht, want net als op aarde moet de opwaartse gang uit volledig vrije wil nagestreefd worden en elke dwang moet geëlimineerd worden. En het vrije geestelijke laat de lijdende zielen niet in hun nood achter, maar het probeert hen te helpen, waar en hoe dit maar mogelijk is.

The blessing of being free.... the agony of being bound....

Life on earth is given to you to detach yourselves from form.... What this means will only really become understandable to you in the spiritual kingdom, where every cover is a hindrance to you because it always means a shackling of the spirit. And the spirit is bound as long as there is still an earthly thought, an earthly desire in the soul, for it is bound to a certain environment which it creates for itself through its desire. The free spirit, on the other hand, is master of time and space. Where it wants to dwell, there it is; spiritual territory is accessible to it, for its will alone is enough to move it to where it wants to dwell. His will can accomplish everything, he is no longer hindered by anything, therefore completely free. Once it has become free it no longer has to fear a decline either, but it does not completely distance itself from the spiritual, which is still languishing in bondage, because it urges itself to help it to freedom too. And the still unfree soul only feels the benefit of becoming free when its earthly desire begins to subside.... Then its ascent will also begin, but before that unthinkably long times can pass where it does nothing to become free from the form, which no longer consists of earthly substances but burdens the soul in such a way that it feels it as compulsion or pressure. It often has to walk arduous paths which it hardly believes it can overcome, it has to endure hardship, albeit in a different way than on earth, yet the suffering does not weigh it down any less than on earth. And it could have easily averted this painful state on earth, for it was given the opportunity to become free from the form.... This awareness is agonizing and increases its torment, for it certainly recognizes its state of suffering but not in what way it can still free itself from it in the beyond. For this realization is only the result of its will to want to help; only when it disregards its own suffering and takes the hardship of fellow suffering souls to heart, when it wants to help them, does it realize that this is the only way to become free itself, that the activity of love is also necessary in the beyond in order to illuminate the dark surroundings and to reach somewhat brighter regions, and it becomes easier and freer for the soul the more willing it is to serve the other suffering souls.... The free spiritual essence assists it by instructing the soul and giving it advice, yet even unrecognized by its abundance of light, for just as on earth the ascent upwards has to be striven for of completely free will and all compulsion has to be eliminated. Yet the free spiritual essence does not abandon the suffering souls in their adversity but tries to help them wherever and however it can....
