People must realize that earthly life is only a means to an end, but never an end in itself. Only this realization spurs them on to strive to reach the goal for the sake of which man walks on earth. Consequently, the belief in the soul's survival after death must be conveyed to him, the immortality of the soul must be explained to him, even though this cannot be proven to the human being. Knowledge must be made accessible to him which makes the doctrine of immortality understandable to him, so that it now becomes easy for him to believe even without proof. Only then does he regard the earth as a means to an end and orientates his whole life towards survival after death. Only this thought allows him to look at earthly goods with different eyes, for he now learns to assess their transience and focusses his attention on the things that last for eternity. And what he now does, he brings into connection with the life beyond. As soon as the human being believes that life has no end with death he thinks about what kind of life after death may be; thus he sends his spirit upwards, i.e. to regions which are the soul's abode after the end of earthly life. And in these regions he is now given information, namely mentally, so that the human being now full of conviction regards himself as a traveller on earth whose course of life will soon be over and he tries to make productive use of this short time on earth. The belief in immortality is therefore inevitably necessary if the human being is to begin the work on his soul, just as this belief also prevents the human being from living a purely worldly life. However, there is no irrefutable proof of the soul's survival. This, too, is a teaching that can never be proven, but which can become the deepest conviction through diligent reflection, just as everything spiritual is not to be proven, so that the free will of man is not restricted and faith is therefore an unconstrained one....

VJERA U BESMRTNOST DUŠE JE NUŽNA ZA RAD NA SEBI SAMOME....

Ljudima mora biti jasno da je zemaljski život samo sredstvo za postizavanje svrhe, ali nikada svrha sama u sebi. Tek ta spoznaja podstiče ih da streme postići cilj zbog kojega čovjek živi na Zemlji. Prema tome, mora mu biti i prenešena vjera u nastavak života duše nakon smrti, mora mu biti obrazložena besmrtnost duše, iako to čovjeku ne može biti dokazano. Mora mu se učiniti dostupnim znanje koje mu objašnjava učenje o besmrtnosti, tako da mu onda bude lako vjerovati i bez dokaza. Tek tada on promatra Zemlju kao sredstvo do cilja i on cijeli svoj život organizira s pogledom na nastavak života nakon smrti.

Tek ta misao čini da zemaljska dobra vidi drugačijim očima, jer tad spoznaje njihovu prolaznost, i pogled usmjerava na stvari koje imaju vječno trajanje. I ono što tad čini povezuje sa onostranim životom. Kad čovjek vjeruje u to da život nakon smrti ne prestaje, on razmišlja o tome kakav bi život nakon smrti mogao biti; dakle on svoj duh diže u visine, znači u područja koja su duši boravište nakon prestanka zemaljskog života. I u tim područjima tad mu biva razjašnjeno i to misaonim putem, tako da sad čovjek pun uvjerenja sam sebe smatra zemaljskim putnikom čiji životni tok je uskoro završen, i on se svoje kratko zemaljsko vrijeme trudi plodno iskoristiti.

Tako da je vjera u besmrtnost nezaobilazno potrebna, ako će čovjek početi rad na svojoj duši, isto tako ta vjera čovjeka spriječava da život živi čisto svjetovno. No neoborivi dokaz o nastavku života duše nemoguće je dati. I ovo je jedno učenje koje nikada ne može biti dokazano, međutim kroz marljivo promišjanje može postati najdubljim uvjerenjem, kao što se ni sve duhovno ne može dokazati, da slobodna volja čovjeka ne bude ograničena, pa je vjera prema tome neprisiljena.
