Belief in the immortality of the soul necessary to work on oneself....

People must realize that earthly life is only a means to an end, but never an end in itself. Only this realization spurs them on to strive to reach the goal for the sake of which man walks on earth. Consequently, the belief in the soul's survival after death must be conveyed to him, the immortality of the soul must be explained to him, even though this cannot be proven to the human being. Knowledge must be made accessible to him which makes the doctrine of immortality understandable to him, so that it now becomes easy for him to believe even without proof. Only then does he regard the earth as a means to an end and orientates his whole life towards survival after death. Only this thought allows him to look at earthly goods with different eyes, for he now learns to assess their transience and focusses his attention on the things that last for eternity. And what he now does, he brings into connection with the life beyond. As soon as the human being believes that life has no end with death he thinks about what kind of life after death may be; thus he sends his spirit upwards, i.e. to regions which are the soul's abode after the end of earthly life. And in these regions he is now given information, namely mentally, so that the human being now full of conviction regards himself as a traveller on earth whose course of life will soon be over and he tries to make productive use of this short time on earth. The belief in immortality is therefore inevitably necessary if the human being is to begin the work on his soul, just as this belief also prevents the human being from living a purely worldly life. However, there is no irrefutable proof of the soul's survival. This, too, is a teaching that can never be proven, but which can become the deepest conviction through diligent reflection, just as everything spiritual is not to be proven, so that the free will of man is not restricted and faith is therefore an unconstrained one....

La creencia en la inmortalidad del alma hace falta para el trabajo en sí mismo....

Los hombres tienen que tener claro que la vida terrestre sólo es remedio para obtener el propósito, pero nunca es la finalidad en sí. Solo esta consciencia activa a buscar a llegar al reto por lo cual el hombre se encuentra en la tierra. A consecuencia se le tiene que hacer entender la vida seguida después de la muerte, razonar la inmortalidad del alma, aunque no se lo puede aprobar al hombre. Se le debe abrir un conocimiento que le hace entender la doctrina de la inmortalidad, de hecho hacerle fácil creer también sin pruebas. Sólo entonces verá el final como remedio a llegar al propósito y dirige toda su vida a la vida seguida después de la muerte. Solo este pensamiento le deja ver los bienes terrestres con otros ojos, porque ahora aprende a ver su mortalidad, y se centra en cosas que duran para la eternidad. Y lo que hace a partir de entonces es poner en relación todo con la vida del más allá. Mientras el hombre crea en esto, que la vida no termina con la muerte, piensa sobre el tipo de la vida cómo podría ser después de la muerte; manda a su espíritu hacia lo arriba, es decir a regiones que son área de existencia para el alma después de la terminación de la vida terrestre. Y allí se puede mover con sus pensamientos de forma que el hombre se puede ver con toda convicción como un caminante de la tierra, cuyo pasaje por la tierra se termina pronto, y que debe intentar aprovechar exhaustivamente este plazo corto de los tiempos finales. La creencia en la inmortalidad hace falta sin remedio si el hombre debe empezar a trabajar en su alma, igual que esta fe frena al hombre a llevar solo una vida centrándose en lo terrestre. Pero no se puede llevar una prueba definitiva sobre la vida seguida del alma. Es una doctrina que nunca se podrá aprobar, a pesar se puede convencerse profundamente por pensamientos intensos, igual que todo lo espiritual no se puede aprobar para que la voluntad libre del hombre no se afecta y la creencia no está forzada....
