Souls of the deceased close to earth....

As long as the souls of the deceased still think of and desire earthly possessions and pleasures they will stay within the proximity of earth. Through their longing they are connected with everything they desire and will always stay close to it. Even in the beyond they cannot easily detach themselves from what they loved on earth, with the result that they find it difficult to strive to ascend in the beyond. Spiritual maturing becomes questionable while earthly desire is still captivating the soul, for desire generally excludes giving until the soul desires spiritual nourishment. Receiving this will also awaken or increase its urge to give. But if it is not yet receptive to spiritual sustenance it will not be offered to the soul, for then it has not yet completely separated itself from earth and would never recognise the value of what is desired in the spiritual kingdom as the most precious possession. However, the desire for earthly possessions shows a lack of maturity of soul, and thus earth is surrounded by numerous souls in an inadequate state of maturity, which cannot detach themselves from what seemed dear and desirable to them in earthly life. Such souls can only be helped by prayer, for a loving prayer lets them feel something which they haven't felt until then.... they receive a flow of spiritual strength, which triggers in them something entirely different than the fulfilment of earthly longing. This influx of strength makes them feel extremely happy and they gradually turn away from the goals they had sought after until then. And thus a human being on earth can bestow upon the deceased immense help and a tremendous labour of love if he often forwards a prayer to them, which initiates a detachment from earth and its formerly loved surroundings. All earthly things are a hindrance to higher development, only when the longing for it is fought will spiritual matters step into the forefront, and only then will the ascending progress in the beyond begin, and the sooner the spiritual endeavour starts in the beyond the less the soul will have to fight, for the earthly longing will constantly lessen, the soul will distance itself from earth ever more, and it will have overcome matter when it feels the desire for spiritual possessions.... Then it will not just desire but also want to give, and this is the beginning of the ascent to the pinnacle....

Zielen van overledenen in de nabijheid van de aarde

De zielen van de overledenen houden zich zolang in de nabijheid van de aarde op als hun gedachten en verlangen nog de aardse goederen en aards genot betreffen. Ze zijn met alles wat ze begeren verbonden door het verlangen en zullen zich steeds in de nabijheid ervan ophouden. Waar ze van hielden op aarde daar kunnen ze zich ook in het hiernamaals niet zo gemakkelijk van scheiden en het gevolg daarvan is, dat het voor hen moeilijk is in het hiernamaals opwaarts te streven. Neemt aards begeren de ziel nog gevangen, dan valt het geestelijk rijp worden te betwijfelen, want een begeren schakelt meestal een geven uit, zolang tot de ziel geestelijke spijzen begeert. Het doen toekomen hiervan zal ook de drang om te geven in haar opwekken of vergroten. Is ze echter nog niet in staat geestelijke kost op te nemen, dan wordt deze haar ook niet aangeboden, want dan heeft ze zich nog niet geheel losgemaakt van de aarde en zou nooit de waarde van datgene inzien wat in het geestelijke rijk als het meest kostbare wordt begeerd. Maar het verlangen naar aards goed is een gebrek aan zielenrijpheid en zo is de aarde omgeven door talrijke zielen in een staat van gebrekkige rijpheid, die zich niet kunnen losmaken van dat wat hun in het leven op aarde aangenaam en begerenswaard toescheen. Zulke zielen kan alleen door gebed hulp worden geboden, want een gebed in liefde laat hun iets voelen wat ze tot nu toe niet kenden.

Er stroomt hun geestelijke kracht toe, die iets heel anders in hen losmaakt dan de vervulling van aardse begeerte. Ze ervaren dit toestromen van kracht als uitermate gelukkig makend en keren zich nu langzaam van hun tot nu toe nagestreefde doelen af. En zo kan de mens op aarde de overledenen de grootste hulp en de grootste liefdedienst bewijzen, als hij hun vaak een gebed nazendt dat aanleiding geeft zich los te maken van de aarde en de omgeving die hun lief is geweest. Al het aardse houdt de ziel van de positieve ontwikkeling af, pas wanneer het verlangen daarnaar wordt bestreden, treedt het geestelijke op de voorgrond en dan pas begint de klim omhoog in het hiernamaals. En hoe eerder het geestelijke streven in het hiernamaals begint, des te minder strijd heeft de ziel uit te vechten, want het aardse verlangen zal steeds zwakker worden. De ziel zal zich steeds meer van de aarde verwijderen, dan pas heeft ze de materie overwonnen, wanneer ze verlangen naar geestelijk goed bespeurt. Dan zal ze niet alleen begeren, maar ook willen geven. En dit is het begin van de klim omhoog.
