Resistance hinders the power of cognition....

Whatever man resists remains incomprehensible to him until he has given up his inner resistance. He can only recognize the truth when the power of knowledge comes to him, which is again the result of the desire for truth. However, a desire for the truth presupposes a certain willingness, i.e. the opposite of resistance. Willfulness will always trigger a humble feeling, while resistance is paired with arrogance. Humility earns man grace, but arrogance keeps it from him, and without grace man cannot mature his soul. Without grace, however, he remains blind in spirit, ignorant and without light. But where divine grace flows to man, he becomes seeing, knowing and radiant with light. Resistance is therefore wrong will, which must be corrected. If the human being gives up resistance, i.e. if his will is turned towards God, then many things will appear acceptable to him which he had previously rejected as unacceptable, and this is brought about by divine grace which then flows to the human being when his will consciously acknowledges God. This is why people raise objections against divine revelations until they have declared their will for enlightenment. For then they are ready to listen for the answer and their intellect grasps it from the moment the desire for the answer is aroused in them. Without a question the truth cannot be given to him; and if it were offered to him the human being would not be able to receive it and therefore he will walk along in the darkness of the spirit as long as he does not desire the light....

La resistenza, impedimento per la Forza di conoscenza

L’uomo combatte contro qualcosa che gli rimane incomprensibile finché non ha rinunciato alla resistenza interiore. Può riconoscere la Verità solamente quando gli giunge la Forza per la conoscenza, che è di nuovo la conseguenza del desiderio per la Verità. Ma desiderarla premette una certa volontarietà, quindi il contrario della resistenza. Un sentimento umile fa sempre scaturire la volontarietà, mentre la resistenza si accoppia con l’arroganza. L’umiltà procura all’uomo la Grazia, ma l’arroganza gliela tiene lontana e senza la Grazia l’uomo non può maturare nella sua anima. Senza Grazia però rimane cieco nello spirito, ignaro e senza Luce. Ma dove all’uomo affluisce la Grazia divina, costui diventa vedente, sapiente e compenetrato dalla Luce. Quindi la resistenza è volontà invertita, che dev’essere orientata bene. Se l’uomo rinuncia alla resistenza, cioè se la sua volontà è rivolta a Dio, molte cose che prima ha rifiutato come inaccettabili gli sembrano accettabili, e questo lo opera la Grazia divina che poi affluisce all’uomo, quando la sua volontà si dichiara coscientemente per Dio. Per questo motivo gli uomini oppongono delle obiezioni contro le Rivelazioni divine, finché non abbiano dichiarato la volontà per il Chiarimento, perché allora sono disposti ad ascoltare la Risposta, ed il loro intelletto la afferra sin da quel momento, in cui in esso diventa vivo il desiderio per la Risposta. Senza domanda la Verità non gli può essere elargita; e se gli venisse offerta, l’uomo sarebbe incapace di accoglierla, e perciò camminerà nell’oscurità dello spirito finché non porta il desiderio per la Luce.
