Resistance hinders the power of cognition....

Whatever man resists remains incomprehensible to him until he has given up his inner resistance. He can only recognize the truth when the power of knowledge comes to him, which is again the result of the desire for truth. However, a desire for the truth presupposes a certain willingness, i.e. the opposite of resistance. Willfulness will always trigger a humble feeling, while resistance is paired with arrogance. Humility earns man grace, but arrogance keeps it from him, and without grace man cannot mature his soul. Without grace, however, he remains blind in spirit, ignorant and without light. But where divine grace flows to man, he becomes seeing, knowing and radiant with light. Resistance is therefore wrong will, which must be corrected. If the human being gives up resistance, i.e. if his will is turned towards God, then many things will appear acceptable to him which he had previously rejected as unacceptable, and this is brought about by divine grace which then flows to the human being when his will consciously acknowledges God. This is why people raise objections against divine revelations until they have declared their will for enlightenment. For then they are ready to listen for the answer and their intellect grasps it from the moment the desire for the answer is aroused in them. Without a question the truth cannot be given to him; and if it were offered to him the human being would not be able to receive it and therefore he will walk along in the darkness of the spirit as long as he does not desire the light....

La résistance, l'empêchement pour la Force de connaissance

L'homme combat contre quelque chose qui lui reste incompréhensible tant qu’il n'a pas renoncé à la résistance intérieure. Il peut reconnaître la Vérité seulement lorsque la Force pour la connaissance lui arrive, et cela est de nouveau la conséquence de son désir pour la Vérité. Mais la désirer suppose une certaine bonne volonté, donc le contraire de la résistance. Un sentiment humble fait toujours jaillir la bonne volonté, tandis que la résistance va de pair avec l'arrogance. L'humilité procure à l'homme la Grâce, mais l'arrogance la tient loin de lui et sans la Grâce l'homme ne peut pas mûrir dans son âme. Sans la Grâce cependant il reste aveugle dans l'esprit, ignorant et sans Lumière. Mais là où à l'homme afflue la Grâce divine, celui-ci devient voyant, savant et compénétré de la Lumière. Donc la résistance est une volonté inversée qui doit être réorientée. Si l'homme renonce à la résistance, c'est-à-dire si sa volonté est tournée vers Dieu, beaucoup de choses qui d'abord ont été refusées comme inacceptables lui semblent acceptables, et cela est l'Œuvre de la Grâce divine qui afflue dans l'homme lorsque sa volonté se déclare consciemment pour Dieu. Pour cette raison les hommes opposent des objections contre les Révélations divines tant qu’ils n'ont pas déclaré leur volonté pour l'Éclaircissement, parce qu'alors ils sont disposés à écouter la Réponse, et leur esprit la saisit dès l’instant où le désir pour la Réponse devient vivant en lui. Sans question la Vérité ne peut pas lui être prodiguée ; et si elle était offerte, l'homme serait incapable de l'accueillir, et donc il marchera dans l'obscurité de l'esprit aussi longtemps qu’il n’a pas le désir pour la Lumière.
