State of remoteness from God....

The state of remoteness from God can never have the effect that the human being is good and noble, but he will always feel drawn to where God-opposing forces are active, he will take pleasure in evil, he will completely correspond to the will of the one who stands at the greatest distance from God. To be distant from God means being low and lowly, it means imperfection, ignorance and powerlessness.... And therefore a being in a state far from God can neither be good and noble, nor wise, powerful and perfect. It will bear all the characteristics that the antithesis of God embodies. He who seeks to change his state far from God must try to flee from the opponent of God; he must avoid that which puts the stamp of his affiliation with him on him. He must raise himself up to meet God.... he must try to get close to God. And thus he must do what is contrary to what he has done so far when he was under the influence of God's adversary.... He must change his whole being, he must strive for perfection, he must desire knowledge and ask for strength.... He must fight the characteristics of the power far from God and mould himself in such a way that he is worthy of closeness to God. For closeness to God is the most precious thing a person can achieve on earth. For just as the state far from God binds the being, so it becomes free through closeness to God, and freedom is the desirable goal of all spirituality. He who is far from God is also bound; but everything that is not free feels the compulsion and would like to free itself from it.... As soon as the being feels the state far from God as agony and wants to flee from it, there is also the prospect that it will reach its goal. Only what feels comfortable in the state of being far from God will never become free from the power of the one who opposes God. It cannot become free because the downward inclination is still too great in it; it will be incapable of noble action; it will also be incapable of love, and everything it does will be more in accordance with the will of the evil power. But God wants to change the state far from God, and where the being does not strive for this of its own accord, He gives it further opportunities.... He tries to induce the human being to do good deeds so that he thereby feels the strength of divine love and no longer wants to be without it. And then the ascent upwards begins, then the desire for closeness to God starts to awaken in him, and the human being turns away from God's adversary of his own free will because the desire for God becomes active in him, i.e. stimulates his will to turn to God for help.... And the human being will not call in vain if his prayer is for higher spiritual development....

하나님과 멀어진 상태.

하나님과 멀어진 상태가 절대로 사람을 선하고, 고귀하게 해주는 효과를 줄 수 없고, 그는 항상 하나님의 대적자의 세력이 활동하는 곳으로 이끌리게 될 것이다. 그는 악을 기뻐할 것이다. 그의 의지는 하나님과 가장 멀리 떨어진 자의 의지와 완전하게 일치하게 될 것이다.

하나님으로부터 멀어 떨어져 있는 일은 저조하고 낮은 상태에 있는 것을 의미하고, 온전하지 못함과 무지와 무기력함을 의미한다. 그러므로 하나님과 멀리 떨어진 상태에 있는 존재는 선할 수 없고, 고귀할 수 없고, 지혜롭게 될 수 없고, 권세가 있을 수 없고, 온전할 수 없다. 그는 하나님의 상극이 가진 모든 특성을 가지고 있게 될 것이다.

하나님으로부터 멀리 떨어진 자신의 상태를 바꾸기를 원하는 사람은 하나님의 대적자로부터 벗어나려고 노력해야만 한다. 그는 하나님의 대적자의 소유라는 그의 특성들을 버려야만 한다. 그는 하나님을 향해 자신을 세워나가야만 한다. 그는 하나님께 가까이 다가가려고 노력해야만 한다.

그러므로 그는 지금까지 하나님의 대적자의 영향을 받았을 때 자신이 했던 일과는 반대가 되는 일을 해야만 한다. 그는 자신의 모든 성품을 바꿔야만 하고, 온전하게 되기 위한 추구를 해야만 한다. 그는 지식을 갈망해야만 하고, 힘을 구해야만 한다. 그는 하나님으로부터 멀리 떨어진 권세의 특성에 대항하여 싸우고, 자신을 하나님 가까이에 합당하게 형성해야만 한다. 왜냐면 하나님 가까이에 거하는 일이 인간이 이 땅에서 이룰 수 있는 가장 가장 귀한 일이기 때문이다.

왜냐면 하나님으로부터 멀어진 상태가 존재를 묶는 것처럼, 하나님 가까이에 거하는 일을 통해 자유롭게 되고, 자유는 모든 영적인 존재들이 갈망할 만한 목표이기 때문이다. 하나님과 멀리 떨어져 있는 존재는 묶여 있는 것이다. 그러나 자유롭지 못한 모든 존재는 강요를 느끼고, 이런 강요로부터 벗어나기를 원한다. 존재들이 하나님으로부터 멀어진 상태를 고통으로 깨닫고, 그로부터 벗어나기를 원하게 되면, 그가 목표에 도달할 전망이 있게 된다.

단지 하나님과 멀어진 상태에서 편안하게 느끼는 존재만이 하나님을 대적하는 자의 권세로부터 절대로 해방되지 못하게 될 것이다. 그 안에 아래로 향하려는 성향이 아직 너무 커서, 존재가 자유롭게 될 수 없다. 그는 고귀한 행동을 할 수 없게 될 것이다. 그는 또한 사랑할 수 없게 될 것이다. 그가 행하는 모든 일은 악한 권세의 의지에 합당하게 될 것이다.

그러나 하나님은 자신으로부터 멀리 떨어진 상태를 바꾸기를 원한다. 존재가 스스로 이를 위해 노력하지 않으면, 하나님은 그에게 계속되는 가능성을 준다. 하나님은 사람이 선행을 하도록 유도하여, 이를 통해 그가 하나님의 사랑의 힘을 느끼고, 이제 더 이상 하나님의 사랑의 힘이 없이 지낼 수 없게 한다.

그러면 높은 곳을 향한 성장이 시작되고, 하나님과 가까워지려는 갈망이 그 안에서 깨어나기 시작한다. 사람은 자유의지로 하나님의 대적자로부터 돌이킨다. 왜냐면 하나님을 향한 갈망이 그 안에서 활성화되기 때문이다. 다시 말해 하나님께 도움을 구하려는 자신의 의지를 자극하기 때문이다. 사람의 기도가 영적으로 더 높은 성장을 위한 기도라면, 그는 헛되이 기도하지 않게 될 것이다.
