State of remoteness from God....

The state of remoteness from God can never have the effect that the human being is good and noble, but he will always feel drawn to where God-opposing forces are active, he will take pleasure in evil, he will completely correspond to the will of the one who stands at the greatest distance from God. To be distant from God means being low and lowly, it means imperfection, ignorance and powerlessness.... And therefore a being in a state far from God can neither be good and noble, nor wise, powerful and perfect. It will bear all the characteristics that the antithesis of God embodies. He who seeks to change his state far from God must try to flee from the opponent of God; he must avoid that which puts the stamp of his affiliation with him on him. He must raise himself up to meet God.... he must try to get close to God. And thus he must do what is contrary to what he has done so far when he was under the influence of God's adversary.... He must change his whole being, he must strive for perfection, he must desire knowledge and ask for strength.... He must fight the characteristics of the power far from God and mould himself in such a way that he is worthy of closeness to God. For closeness to God is the most precious thing a person can achieve on earth. For just as the state far from God binds the being, so it becomes free through closeness to God, and freedom is the desirable goal of all spirituality. He who is far from God is also bound; but everything that is not free feels the compulsion and would like to free itself from it.... As soon as the being feels the state far from God as agony and wants to flee from it, there is also the prospect that it will reach its goal. Only what feels comfortable in the state of being far from God will never become free from the power of the one who opposes God. It cannot become free because the downward inclination is still too great in it; it will be incapable of noble action; it will also be incapable of love, and everything it does will be more in accordance with the will of the evil power. But God wants to change the state far from God, and where the being does not strive for this of its own accord, He gives it further opportunities.... He tries to induce the human being to do good deeds so that he thereby feels the strength of divine love and no longer wants to be without it. And then the ascent upwards begins, then the desire for closeness to God starts to awaken in him, and the human being turns away from God's adversary of his own free will because the desire for God becomes active in him, i.e. stimulates his will to turn to God for help.... And the human being will not call in vain if his prayer is for higher spiritual development....

Zustand der Gottferne....

Der Zustand der Gottferne kann sich niemals so auswirken, daß der Mensch gut und edel ist, sondern immer wird er sich dorthin gezogen fühlen, wo Gott-gegnerische Kräfte tätig sind, er wird Gefallen finden am Bösen, er wird ganz dem Willen dessen entsprechen, der in größter Entfernung von Gott steht. Gott fernzustehen bedeutet Tiefstand und Niedrigkeit, es bedeutet Unvollkommenheit, Unwissenheit und Kraftlosigkeit.... Und darum kann ein Wesen in Gott-fernem Zustand weder gut und edel, noch weise, mächtig und vollkommen sein. Es wird alle jene Merkmale in sich tragen, die der Gegenpol Gottes verkörpert. Wer seinen Gott-fernen Zustand zu wandeln sucht, der muß dem Gegner Gottes zu entfliehen suchen; er muß das meiden, was ihm den Stempel seiner Zugehörigkeit zu diesem aufdrückt. Er muß sich selbst bilden zur Höhe, Gott entgegen.... er muß versuchen, in Gottnähe zu gelangen. Und also muß er das tun, was gegensätzlich ist zu dem, was er bisher getan hat, als er unter dem Einfluß des Gegners von Gott stand.... Er muß sein ganzes Wesen wandeln, er muß die Vollkommenheit anstreben, er muß Wissen begehren und um Kraft bitten.... Er muß die Merkmale der Gott-fernen Macht bekämpfen und sich so gestalten, daß er der Gottnähe würdig ist. Denn die Gottnähe ist das Köstlichste, was der Mensch auf Erden erringen kann. Denn so, wie der Gott-ferne Zustand das Wesen bindet, so wird es durch die Gottnähe frei, und die Freiheit ist das erstrebenswerte Ziel alles Geistigen. Wer Gott fern ist, ist auch gebunden; alles Unfreie aber spürt den Zwang und möchte sich lösen davon.... Sowie das Wesen den Gott-fernen Zustand also als Qual empfindet und ihm entfliehen will, ist auch Aussicht, daß es sein Ziel erreicht. Nur was sich wohl fühlt in dem Zustand der Gottferne, das wird nie frei werden aus der Gewalt dessen, der Gott entgegensteht. Es kann nicht frei werden, weil der Hang nach unten noch zu groß ist in ihm; es wird unfähig sein zu einer edlen Handlung; es wird auch unfähig sein zu lieben, und alles, was es tut, wird mehr dem Willen der bösen Macht entsprechen. Gott aber will den Gott-fernen Zustand wandeln, und wo das Wesen nicht von selbst dies anstrebt, gibt Er ihm weitere Möglichkeit.... Er sucht den Menschen zu guten Taten zu veranlassen, auf daß er dadurch die Kraft der göttlichen Liebe verspüre und nun ohne diese nicht mehr sein mag. Und dann beginnt der Aufstieg zur Höhe, dann beginnt das Verlangen nach der Gottnähe in ihm zu erwachen, und es wendet sich der Mensch aus freiem Willen vom Gegner Gottes ab, weil das Verlangen nach Gott in ihm tätig wird, d.h. seinen Willen anregt, sich zu Gott zu wenden um Hilfe.... Und es wird der Mensch nicht vergebens rufen, so sein Gebet der geistigen Höherentwicklung gilt....
