Preconditions for the work of the divine spirit....

These are the preconditions for the working of the spirit in man, that he endeavours to live according to divine will, that he educates himself to humility and peaceableness, that he is prepared to serve God and the neighbour, and that he is active in love and thus forms himself to become an image of God. The spirit from God in the human being enters into an alliance with the divine spirit outside himself, which is an emanation of God; however, everything divine requires a receptacle which is worthy of receiving such precious contents, and therefore the first condition is that the human being is pure of heart, that he detests what is not good and noble.... that he strives for truth and hates lies.... that he does not harbour dishonest thoughts, keeps away from all unkindness, is just in thought and deed and serves in love.... Then his heart shapes itself in such a way that it is worthy and therefore also capable of receiving the divine spirit, for then the spirit in the human being is free and can connect with the spiritual beyond itself, which stands in perfection and therefore receives the emanation of strength from God and imparts it to the spirit in the human being. The sending out of the Holy Spirit is therefore the transmission of divine power through spiritual bearers of light and power, i.e. perfect beings who have found union with God and now constantly receive and pass on light and power.... Everyone who asks for the spirit from God from the bottom of his heart and in deepest humility will be allowed to receive the divine spirit, the holiest from God, as long as he endeavours to live in such a way that he is worthy of the most delicious gift of grace. He must recognize God as the highest and most perfect being, Who is powerful beyond all measure and wise, and thus believe.... He must ask for His love and grace, i.e. demand what God wants to hand out.... and he himself must be active in love so that God's love can communicate itself to him.... And God will overshadow a person who thus moulds himself with His grace.... He will give him unmeasured what is a divine share.... His spirit.... He will guide him into right thinking, enlighten his spirit and give him strength to recognize what is right. He will enrich his knowledge, and creation will be revealed to him brightly and clearly. He will know the meaning and purpose of it, he will penetrate into the spiritual kingdom and only then will he realize the significance of his life on earth. But man himself must do one thing.... he must willingly open his ear if the spirit from God wants to make itself known to him.... The heart, his spiritual ear, must declare itself ready to receive and thus prepare itself by closing itself off from all the world, by focussing only on God and pleadingly awaiting the divine gift.... And on gentle wings the spirit of God descends upon those people who are willing to hear the divine word.... For when they turn their hearts upwards they listen to the word that comes from above and which resounds in the heart so delicately and subtly that it can only be heard when love for God sharpens the spiritual ear, when all worldly desire falls silent and the longing of the heart is only for the divine gift. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit is therefore dependent on man himself, on his will, his faith and his love.... Where the will is turned towards God, where faith in divine activity is strong and where love for God and neighbour establishes the connection with God, there the spirit from God will enlighten people and introduce them to all truth....

Voorwaarden voor het werkzaam zijn van de goddelijke geest

Dit zijn de voorwaarden voor het werkzaam zijn van de geest in de mens: Hij moet zich inspannen om overeenkomstig de goddelijke wil te leven. Hij moet zich tot deemoed en vredelievendheid opvoeden. Hij moet bereid zijn God en de naasten te dienen. En hij moet in liefde werkzaam zijn en zich zo ontwikkelen, dat hij een evenbeeld van God wordt.

De geest uit God in de mens gaat een verbintenis aan met de goddelijke geest buiten zichzelf, die een uitstraling van God is. Maar al het goddelijke vereist een opnamevat, dat waardig is zo’n heerlijke inhoud op te nemen. En daarom is het een voorwaarde, dat de mens zuiver van hart is. Dat hij alles wat niet goed of edel is, verafschuwt. Dat hij naar de waarheid streeft en de leugen haat. Dat hij geen onzuivere gedachten koestert, zich ver weghoudt van elke liefdeloosheid, rechtvaardig in het denken en handelen is en in liefde dient.

Dan vormt zijn hart zich zo, dat het waardig en in staat is om de goddelijke geest op te nemen, want dan is de geest in de mens vrij en kan het zich verbinden met het geestelijke buiten zichzelf, dat volmaakt is en daarom de krachtuitstraling uit God in ontvangst neemt en ze dit aan de geest in de mens overdraagt. Het sturen van de Heilige Geest is dus het overdragen van goddelijke kracht door geestelijke licht- en krachtdragers. Dat wil zeggen dat volmaakte wezens, die de vereniging met God gevonden hebben, nu onophoudelijk licht en kracht ontvangen en doorgeven.

Iedereen, die uit het diepste van het hart en in de diepste deemoed om de geest uit God vraagt, zal de goddelijke geest, het heiligste uit God, mogen ontvangen, indien hij zich inspant om zo te leven, dat het waardig is voor het heerlijkste genadegeschenk. Hij moet God erkennen als het hoogste en meest volmaakte wezen, Dat mateloos machtig en wijs is. En het dus geloven. Hij moet smeken om Diens liefde en genade, dus naar dat verlangen, wat God uit zou willen delen. En hij moet zelf in liefde werkzaam zijn, opdat de liefde van God zich aan hem kan uiten.

En God zal een mens, die zich zo vormt, met Zijn genade overschaduwen. Hij zal hem mateloos het goddelijke deel geven: Zijn geest. Hij zal hem naar het juiste denken leiden, zijn geest verlichten en hem kracht geven om het goede te herkennen. Hij zal zijn kennis verrijken en helder en duidelijk zal de schepping zich aan hem onthullen. Hij zal kennis hebben van de zin en het doel van de schepping. Hij zal in het geestelijke rijk binnendringen en de betekenis van zijn aardse leven nu pas begrijpen.

Maar één ding moet de mens zelf doen. Hij moet zijn oor bereidwillig openen, als de geest uit God zich aan hem bekend wil maken. Het hart, zijn geestelijke oor, moet zich nu tot ontvangst bereid verklaren en zich dus voorbereiden, doordat het zich voor de hele wereld afsluit, zodat het alleen maar op God gericht is en het smekend het goddelijke geschenk verwacht. En met een zacht vibreren daalt de geest van God op deze mensen neer, die gewillig zijn om het goddelijke woord te horen.

Want als ze hun hart naar boven richten, luisteren ze naar het woord, dat van boven komt en zo zacht en fijn in het hart weerklinkt, dat het alleen maar dan gehoord kan worden, wanneer de liefde van God het geestelijke oor scherper maakt, wanneer al het wereldse verlangen verstomd is en het vurige verlangen van het hart enkel het goddelijke geschenk betreft.

De uitstorting van de Heilige Geest is dus afhankelijk van de mens zelf, van zijn wil, zijn geloof en zijn liefde. Waar de wil naar God toegekeerd is, waar het geloof in het goddelijke werkzaam zijn sterk is en waar de liefde voor God en de naaste de verbinding met God tot stand brengt, daar zal de geest uit God de mensen verlichten en hen in alle waarheid binnenleiden.
