Ingenuity.... self-exaltation....

Man's genius is also a certain danger for him, because he sacrifices his inner life to it. The certainty of being on a higher level can often have a pernicious effect, because a person is arrogant and believes himself to be superior to his fellow human beings in every respect in terms of knowledge and power of judgement. However, arrogance is the obstacle to recognizing the truth. Only where humility of heart adorns a person does the truth find entrance, for divine grace flows to them. On the other hand, where the opinion has formed that earthly visible abilities also contribute to recognizing the truth, there is a certain arrogance and therefore also a lack of cognitive power. Anti-religious endeavours promote the abandonment of any belief in what has become common knowledge through tradition. As a result, even that which is of divine origin.... the doctrine of a God of love, omnipotence and wisdom is often given up without hesitation.... And the human being's current attitude is objectively justified in the most convincing way, yet always based on the erroneous view that life ends with bodily death. And therefore the building now erected will lack the foundation walls and therefore not withstand an onslaught of evidence from a deeply believing person.... however, this evidence is just as stubbornly rejected so as not to expose the self-constructed building to the risk of collapse. If the highly developed human mind does not bow in humility to the unfathomable deity, it will only generate erroneous views and strengthen self-conceit with these views, resulting in a regrettable state of mind. Such a person can only be made to recognize his weakness and insignificance through suffering. His intellectual acuity and judgement must be shown to be deficient, as they are no antidote to his own powerlessness when God Himself expresses Himself through the forces of nature. Then every human being becomes small, no matter what talent, what intellectual knowledge he calls his own. In an earthly emergency, which proves his own powerlessness, only the inner relationship, the attitude towards God, is of importance, and this determines his further life on earth and also spiritually. All other qualities of the human being, which can only be assessed in purely earthly terms, will not come into play and every preconceived opinion will waver, for it will not stand up in the face of the catastrophe which surpasses all human imagination and which God sends in order to give precisely those people the opportunity to think right.... to believe in Him........

독창성. 교만.

인간의 독창성은 또한 그에게 어떤 위험이 된다. 왜냐하면 그가 그의 내면의 삶을 희생하기 때문이다. 더 높은 수준에 있다는 확신은 자주 해로운 영향을 미칠 수 있다. 왜냐하면 인간은 오만하고,지식과 판단, 모든 면에서 자신이 이웃 사람보다 우월하다고 믿기 때문이다. 그러나 이런 오만함이 진리를 깨닫는 일에 장애물이다. 단지 심장이 겸손하게 된 사람에게 진리가 들어가고, 하나님의 은혜가 흘러 들어가기 때문이다.

반면에 세상적으로 볼 수 있는 능력도 진리를 깨닫는 데 역활을 한다는 의견이 형성되었지만, 그런 곳에는 어떤 오만함이 있고, 따라서 깨닫는 능력이 또한 부족하다. 반 종교적인 추구는 전승을 통해 사람들의 공동 재산이 된 모든 믿음을 포기하도록 장려한다. 그러므로 하나님으로부터 온 것을, 사랑과 전능과 지혜의 하나님에 대한 가르침을 자주 주저함이 없이 버린다.

현재 인간의 태도는 가장 설득력이 있게 사실로 정당화되지만, 그러나 항상 삶이 육체의 죽음으로 끝난다는 잘못된 견해에 근거한 것이다. 그러므로 현재 지어진 건물의 기초가 사라질 것이고, 깊은 믿음을 가진 사람의 맹렬한 증거를 견딜 수 없게 될 것이다. 그러나 그들은 자신들이 지은 것이 붕괴될 위험에 노출시키지 않기 위해 이런 증거들을 끈질기게 거부할 것이다.

고도로 발달된 인간의 이성이 헤아릴 수 없는 신성에게 겸손히 굴복하지 않으면, 이성은 단지 잘못된 관점을 만들어 내고, 이런 관점으로 자신의 교만을 강하게 하고, 이런 일은 혼의 상태를 불쌍히 여길 만한 상태가 되게 한다. 이런 사람은 단지 고통을 통해서 자신의 약점과 무가치함을 깨달을 수 있다. 그에게 이성의 날카로움과 판단 능력이 부족한 것을 입증해줘야만 한다. 하나님 자신이 자연의 권세를 통해 자신을 표현한다면, 그의 무기력함을 해결하기 위해 이성의 날카로움과 판단 능력이 자연의 권세에 대항할 수단이 아님을 증명하면서, 이성의 날카로움과 판단 능력이 그에게 부족함을 증명해줘야만 한다.

그러면 모든 사람은 그가 어떤 재능을 가지고 있든, 어떤 날카로운 이성을 가지고 있든, 상관이 없이 작아지게 된다. 그에게 자신의 무기력함을 증명해주는 이 땅의 위험한 상황 가운데 하나님을 향한 내면의 관계와 자세가 중요하고, 이것이 앞으로 그의 이 땅의 삶과 영적인 삶을 결정한다. 순전히 세상적으로 평가할 수 있는 사람의 다른 모든 특성은 인정을 받지 못하고, 모든 선입견은 흔들리게 될 것이다. 왜냐하면 그런 것들은 하나님이 바로 그런 사람들이 올바르게 생각할 수 있는 기회를 아직 제공해주기 위해, 주님을 믿는 믿음에 도달하도록 하기 위해, 보낸 모든 인간의 상상을 초월하는 재앙 앞에 버틸 수 없기 때문이다.
