The source of knowledge is inexhaustible and the power that flows from it is unimaginable. And if you men only want to draw, you will be allowed to refresh yourselves at this source. Yet you must thirst for it, for the refreshment is too delicious to flow to people without being honoured. What God Himself offers you cannot be anything other than delicious. And that is why you should desire it from the bottom of your heart, you should not give room to any other desire in you and only long for the divine gift. And you will soon only desire to be fed from heaven, for nothing equals the food and drink from above. And you must try to strengthen your longing for it by overcoming obstacles; every obstacle must drive you to increased longing. Therefore your life, you who want to receive the gifts of heaven, cannot pass by monotonously and undisturbed. The path to the source, which is to refresh you, is arduous but promises you the most marvellous reward if you do not tire and try to advance despite obstacles. You should never forget that God Himself opens up this source for you, that it is He Who wants to refresh and strengthen you on the path through earthly life; that His infinite love has the most delicious things in store for you and wants to give them to you and only requires your willingness to receive them in order to be able to give them to you without measure. Man must sacrifice in order to be able to receive. Everything in him which desires earthly fulfilment has to be fought against, he has to deny himself every bodily pleasure if he wants to be spiritually considered.... He must want to give everything in order to be able to receive everything, for only then will he completely detach himself from matter and can now also enter the spiritual kingdom unhindered, which is now the fulfilment of his longing. If the human being desires earthly things he must often be denied them for the sake of his soul, but if he desires spiritual things his desire will be fulfilled without measure. For God sets no limits, He always gives if His gift is desired.... Yet it is only possible to grasp this gift in all its value and to feel it in all its deliciousness when every earthly desire has been stifled, when the human being's mind has completely turned to the spiritual and thus his soul has united with the spirit, for now the living water flows unstoppably from the spring and is refreshment and refreshment for the thirsting soul....

지식의 원천은 무궁무진하고, 그로부터 흘러나오는 힘은 상상할 수 없다. 너희 사람들이 단지 기르기만 하면, 너희는 원천에서 자신을 쾌활하게 할 수 있다. 그러나 너희는 생수를 갈망해야만 한다. 왜냐하면 생수는 너무 귀해서 갈망하지 않고 사람에게 흐르지 않기 때문이다. 하나님 자신이 주는 것은 귀할 수밖에 없다. 그러므로 너희는 심장의 가장 깊은 곳에서 하나님 자신이 주는 것을 원해야 한다. 너희는 다른 갈망에 공간을 주지 말고 단지 하나님의 선물을 갈망해야 한다. 너희는 곧 하늘로부터 양식을 받아먹기를 갈망하게 될 것이다. 왜냐하면 위로부터 오는 양식과 음료와 같은 것이 전혀 없기 때문이다. 너희는 장애물을 넘어 양식과 음료에 대한 갈망을 강하게 만들려고 노력해야 한다. 모든 장애물이 너희를 더 높은 갈망으로 인도해야만 한다.

그러므로 하늘의 은사를 받기 원하는 너희의 삶이 단조롭고 방해받지 않고 흘러갈 수 없다. 너희를 쾌활하게 해야 할 원천으로 향하는 길은 힘이 드는 길이다. 그러나 너희가 장애물에도 불구하고 지치지 않고, 전진한다면, 가장 영광스러운 보상을 너희에게 약속한다. 너희는 하나님 자신이 너희를 위해 이 원천을 열어 준다는 것을 결코 잊지 말아야 하고, 하나님 자신이 이 땅의 삶을 사는 너희의 길에서 너희를 쾌활하게 하고 강하게 해준다는 것을 잊지 말아야 하고, 하나님의 무한한 사랑이 너희를 위해 가장 귀한 것을 준비하고 있고, 이 것을 너희에게 주기를 원하고, 너희에게 측량할 수 없게 주기 위해 단지 너희의 받으려는 의지를 요구한다는 것을 잊지 말아야 한다.

사람은 받기 위해 희생해야만 한다. 자신 안에 세상적인 성취를 갈망하는 모든 것에 대항하여 싸워야만 한다. 그가 영적으로 받기를 원한다면, 그는 스스로 육체적 기쁨을 부인해야만 한다. 그는 모든 것을 받을 수 있기 위해 모든 것을 희생해야만 한다. 왜냐하면 그러면 그는 물질로부터 완전히 분리되어, 이제 방해받지 않고, 자신의 갈망의 성취인 영의 나라에 들어갈 수 있기 때문이다.

사람이 세상의 것을 원하면, 혼을 위해 자주 원하는 것을 받지 못한다. 그러나 그가 영적인 것을 원하면, 그의 갈망이 측량할 수 없게 이뤄진다. 왜냐하면 하나님은 제한을 두지 않기 때문이다. 하나님은 자신의 은사를 원할 때 항상 준다. 그러나 이 은사의 모든 가치를 파악하고 섬세하게 느낄 수 있게 되는 일은, 모든 세상 욕망이 사라지고, 사람의 생각이 전적으로 영에게 향하고, 이로써 혼이 영과 하나가 될 때, 비로소 가능하다. 왜냐하면 그러면 이제 생수가 원천에서 흘러나와, 목마른 혼에게 쾌활함과 새 힘을 주기 때문이다.
