Union with God consequence of active love....

Finding inner contact with the divine is always a consequence of love awakened in the human being. It is impossible that a human being can unite with God who has not first manifested the will to affirmatively attune himself to the eternal deity through loving activity. From this it emerges that only through love can a union with God be achieved, that therefore the union with God presupposes having become love. It is also understandable that God, as love itself, will be there where true love becomes active. Thus, in a work of love, the human being senses the presence of eternal love as an increased impulse to love and a blissful awareness of strength. This is hardly perceptible in a purely physical sense, but the soul feels it unconsciously, so to speak, in inner peace and heightened joy of life, which, however, is not directed towards earthly interests. It seeks to explore God and infinity.... Once it has become active in love, it will feel prompted to think about God and the spiritual. For it is the consequence of the heart's love that the eternal love now reveals Itself to the human being and turns his train of thought towards Itself. And the human being feels at ease in the spiritual atmosphere that now surrounds him. He senses the divine where It approaches him, he allows himself to be seized by the strength of divine love, he tries to shape himself such that he is worthy of this divine union, and from then on he remains anxious for the salvation of his soul since he regocnizes that the human being's goal should be union with God. He by no means needs to withdraw from the duties of earthly life, he just has to be careful to prioritize the work on his soul over earthly endeavours, then earthly activity is likewise conducive to the soul's higher development. If he starts and ends everything with God and only ever strives for closeness to God, all earthly activity will be a blessing for him, for he will now consciously serve his fellow human beings through his earthly labour, and he can effortlessly master it if only he always desires the strength from God and constantly practices love. For now he does everything with God, Who is with him in every labour of love. He has detached himself from the realm of darkness and consciously entered the realm of light.... And light always means closeness to God.... His spirit must now also have awakened, thus the light must be synonymous with knowledge, for God is wisdom and love.... If God as love is connected with man through works of love, wisdom must also communicate itself to man in the same measure. A loving earthly being must simultaneously be a knowing being, for if God reveals Himself to the human being through love, He does not exclude wisdom, and the human being who has united with God through love will always stand in knowledge....

Vereniging met God gevolg van werkzame liefde

Het vinden van het innerlijke contact met het goddelijke is steeds een gevolg van de in de mens ontwaakte liefde. Het is onmogelijk, dat een mens, die niet van tevoren door werken van liefde de wil getoond heeft zich positief ten opzichte van de eeuwige Godheid op te stellen, zich met God verbinden kan. Daaruit blijkt, dat enkel door de liefde zich een vereniging met God laat bereiken. Dat dus de vereniging met God een tot liefde geworden zijn vooropstelt. Verder is het begrijpelijk, dat God, als de liefde Zelf, daar zal zijn, waar ware liefde werkzaam wordt.

De mens voelt dus als het ware in een werk van liefde de aanwezigheid van de eeuwige liefde als toegenomen aansporing tot liefde en een zaligmakend bewustzijn van kracht. Dit is puur lichamelijk nauwelijks waarneembaar, maar de ziel ervaart dit in zekere zin onbewust door innerlijke vrede en verhoogde levensvreugde, die echter geen aardse interesses betreft. Ze probeert God en de oneindigheid te doorvorsen. Ze zal, wanneer ze eerst eenmaal in liefde werkzaam geworden is, zich genoodzaakt voelen over God en het geestelijke na te denken.

Want het is het gevolg van de liefde van het hart, dat de eeuwige liefde zich nu aan de mens te kennen geeft en zijn gedachtegang naar Zichzelf toe leidt. En de mens voelt zich goed in de geestelijke atmosfeer, die hem nu omgeeft. Hij wordt het goddelijke gewaar, waar het hem nadert. Hij laat zich grijpen door de kracht van de goddelijke liefde. Hij probeert zichzelf zo te ontwikkelen, dat hij deze goddelijke verbinding waardig wordt. Hij spant zich voortaan voor zijn zielenheil in, omdat hij beseft, dat het doel van de mens de vereniging met God moet zijn.

Hij hoeft zich nu op geen enkele manier aan de plichten van het aardse leven te onttrekken, maar hij moet erop bedacht zijn de arbeid aan zijn ziel voorrang te geven boven het aardse streven, dan is de aardse werkzaamheid eveneens bevorderlijk voor de opwaartse ontwikkeling van de ziel. Als hij alles begint en beëindigt met God en steeds alleen maar de verbinding met God nastreeft, zal alle aardse werkzaamheid hem tot zegen zijn, want hij dient nu door zijn aardse arbeid bewust de medemens en dit kan hij moeiteloos volbrengen, als hij steeds de kracht uit God verlangt en zich voortdurend in de liefde oefent.

Want nu doet hij alles met God, Die in elk liefdeswerk bij hem is. Hij heeft zich uit het rijk van de duisternis bevrijd en is bewust het rijk van het licht binnengetreden. En licht betekent altijd de nabijheid van God. Zijn geest moet nu ook ontwaakt zijn, dus licht betekent hetzelfde als kennis, want God is de wijsheid en de liefde. Als God als de liefde, door werken van liefde met de mens verbonden is, moet ook de wijsheid in dezelfde mate op de mens overslaan. Een liefhebbend aards wezen moet tegelijkertijd een wetend wezen zijn, want als God Zich door de liefde aan de mens bekendmaakt, schakelt Hij de wijsheid niet uit en steeds zal de mens, die zich door de liefde met God verbonden heeft, wetend zijn.
