Charity.... earthly and spiritual need....

Practicing the purest, most unselfish charity is unspeakably valuable for the soul's development. This activity on earth already brings it a high degree of maturity, and at death the soul regocnizes the blessed path it has travelled. A person should always be willing to serve and give.... He should always put the welfare of his fellow human beings before his own welfare; his innermost instinct should prompt him to do all works that serve the welfare of his fellow human beings. He should think of his body and soul, help him in earthly need and seek above all to remedy his spiritual need. Practicing love in earthly life is the noblest task of man and the true following of Jesus. For it includes everything that God requires of him.... The person who practices love will become gentle and patient, he will also be peace-loving and merciful, for if he loves his fellow human beings, all these virtues are inherent in him, for love is divine and therefore also ennobles the nature of man. If a person considers the poor state of soul of an erring person, he will take pity on him and let his active help become active.... he will give what the other person lacks and introduce him to the truth, for his power of cognition will always allow him to find the right thing to do in order to successfully overcome the misery of such an ignorant soul. Taking care of the fellow human being's soul's salvation is the greatest work of mercy, for it spares him the unspeakable suffering which awaits an imperfect soul in the beyond. And patience and love must always prevail, for this work is arduous and therefore requires the greatest love and patience if success is to be achieved. The path to the heights can only be travelled through love; love can never be eliminated, for God is love.... Seeking God without love will be without success, for eternal love can only be found through active neighbourly love.... Yet precisely love is so little respected and people's state of soul is therefore so low that these souls will inevitably suffer greatest hardship. And if the soul is to be spared this hardship in the beyond, then the human being must still be afflicted on earth so that love will unfold in him, so that one person will endeavour to make the earthly misery bearable for the other and thereby reduce the hardship of the soul. For the soul needs other means than the body for its well-being. Only the works of love benefit the soul; everything that the body denies itself in favour of the fellow human being will help it to rise. And therefore people should always endeavour to suppress their self-love and allow everything that seems desirable to them to go to their fellow human being. And thus, if a person strives for the maturity of his soul, he should also not neglect to help his fellow human being to mature his soul by willingly and joyfully giving him his knowledge of the truth.... by instructing him about God, His infinite love and mercy and about man's actual task on earth. And if he has succeeded in rescuing a soul from the darkness, he has been truly selflessly active in neighbourly love, and this earns him the most glorious reward, for the spiritual hardship among humanity is far greater than the physical tribulations. And therefore practice love so that you have a redeeming effect on earth....

이웃 사랑. 이 땅의 위험과 영적인 위험.

가장 순수하고 가장 비 이기적인 이웃 사랑을 실천하는 일은 혼의 성장을 위해 말할 수 없을 정도로 가치가 있다. 이 땅에서 행하는 이런 일은 이미 혼에게 높이 성장하게 하고, 혼은 자신이 걸은 축복이 충만한 길을 깨닫는다. 사람들은 항상 기꺼이 섬기고, 베풀어야 한다. 그는 항상 자신의 안녕보다 이웃 사람의 안녕을 앞세워야 한다. 그의 가장 깊은 내면의 자극이 이웃 사람의 행복을 위한 모든 일을 하게 만들어야 한다. 그는 이웃사람의 몸과 혼을 생각하고, 이 땅의 위험 가운데 그를 도와야 하고, 무엇보다 그의 영적 위험을 해결하기 위해 노력해야 한다.

이 땅의 삶에서 사랑을 실천하는 일은 인간의 가장 우선되는 과제이고, 예수님을 진정으로 따르는 일이다. 왜냐하면 이일에 하나님이 그에게 요구하는 모든 것이 포함되어 있기 때문이다. 사랑을 행하는 사람은 온유하고 인내하며 평화를 사랑하고 긍휼로운 사람이 될 것이다. 왜냐하면 그가 이웃 사람을 사랑하면, 이런 모든 덕성이 자신의 것이 되기 때문이다. 왜냐하면 사랑은 신적인 것이고, 또한 인간의 성품을 고귀하게 만들기 때문이다. 사람이 오류에 빠진 도움이 필요한 사람의 혼의 상태를 생각하면, 그를 긍휼히 여길 것이고, 적극적으로 그를 돕게 될 것이다. 그는 이웃 사람에게 부족한 것을 주고, 그에게 진리를 알려줄 것이다. 왜냐하면 자신의 깨닫는 능력이 이런 지식이 없는 혼의 위험을 성공적으로 해결할 수 있는 옳은 것을 항상 찾을 수 있게 하기 때문이다.

이웃 사람의 구원을 돌보는 일은 가장 큰 긍휼의 역사이다. 왜냐하면 온전하지 못한 혼이 저세상에서 맞이할, 말할 수 없는 고난을 피하게 해주기 때문이다. 그리로 이 일에 인내와 사랑이 항상 함께 해야만 한다. 왜냐하면 이 일이 힘든 일이고, 따라서 이 일에 성공하려면, 가장 큰 사랑과 인내가 필요하기 때문이다. 단지 사랑을 통해 정상으로 향하는 길을 갈 수 있다. 사랑을 결코 제외시킬 수 없다. 왜냐하면 하나님은 사랑이기 때문이다. 사랑 안에 서지 않고 하나님을 찾는 일은 성공하지 못할 것이다. 왜냐하면 영원한 사랑은 단지 행하는 이웃 사랑을 통해 찾을 수 있기 때문이다.

그러나 바로 이런 사랑에 아주 적게 주의를 기울인다. 그러므로 인간의 혼의 상태가 너무 낮아서 혼이 가장 큰 고난을 당하는 일이 불가피하다. 혼이 저세상의 이런 고난을 피하려면, 인간은 아직 이 땅에서 고난을 당해야만 한다. 이로써 그 안에서 사랑이 성장할 수 있게 되야 하고, 이로써 서로 간에 이 땅에 부족한 상태를 견딜 수 있게 만들려고 노력해야 하고, 이로써 혼의 위험이 줄어들게 해야 한다. 왜냐하면 혼은 건강을 위해 몸을 위한 것과 다른 수단이 필요하기 때문이다. 단지 사랑의 행위가 혼에게 도움이 된다. 몸이 이웃 사람을 위해 자신을 부인하는 모든 것이 혼이 높이 성장하게 하는 일에 도움을 줄 것이다. 그러므로 사람들은 항상 자기 사랑을 억제하고, 자신들에게 갈망할만 하게 보이는 모든 것을 이웃사람에게 줘야 한다.

그러므로 사람이 혼의 성숙을 위해 노력한다면, 그는 진리에 대한 자신의 지식을 이웃사람에게 자원하여 기쁨으로 주면서, 이웃사람에게 하나님과 하나님의 무한한 사랑과 긍휼과 인간이 실제 이 땅의 과제에 대해 가르쳐주면서, 이웃 사람의 혼이 성숙하도록 돕는 일에 실패해서는 안 된다. 그가 한 혼을 어두움에서 구하는 일에 성공했다면, 그는 진정으로 자신의 유익을 구하지 않은 이웃사랑으로 일을 했고, 가장 영광스러운 보상을 얻는다. 왜냐하면 인류의 영적인 위험이 육체적인 환난보다 훨씬 더 크기 때문이다. 그러므로 사랑을 행하라. 이로써 너희가 이 땅에서 구속하는 역사를 하라.
