Hulp tijdens zielennood is het grootste liefdeswerk voor de naaste

Dit is het belangrijkste gebod van de naastenliefde, namelijk dat u de medemens niet in de nood van de ziel laat. Alle aardse nood komt tot een einde en daarom moet er niet te veel betekenis aan gehecht worden. Maar de nood van de ziel blijft bestaan, ook wanneer de mens zijn aardse leven beëindigt, als hij deze niet op aarde probeert op te heffen.

En waar zijn eigen kracht daar niet toereikend voor is, daar moet u hem hulpvaardig terzijde staan, omdat u anders geen liefde in uw hart voelt en zodoende het goddelijke gebod van de naastenliefde niet vervult. Want zo’n ziel is verzwakt en is niet in staat om de kracht op te brengen om zichzelf te bevrijden. Ze is duister en zonder licht. Ze is onwetend en niet vrij. En deze toestand moet u veranderen in een wetende, lichtvolle en vrije toestand.

En daarom moet u deze mens onderwijzen. U moet hem een helder beeld schetsen over hoe zijn weg over de aarde moet gaan. U moet hem binnenleiden in dezelfde kennis, die u gelukkig maakt en die u al in u hebt opgenomen. Een verzinken in de door God aan u rechtstreeks gegeven geestelijke geschenken moet elke ziel gelukkig maken. En omgekeerd zal een ongelukkige toestand geestelijke nood voor de ziel betekenen, omdat het niet licht en helder in die mens is.

En als de medemens dus in geestelijke duisternis smacht, verricht u het grootste werk van liefde, als u hem de middelen en de wegen wijst om deze duisternis te verdrijven. Zielen, die in nood zijn, hebben niet de kracht om het licht te naderen. Zodoende moet de mens het licht naar hen toe brengen. Hij moet zich in de donkerste gebieden wagen, om deze met zijn licht te verlichten. Want licht is ook voor deze nog volledig onwetende wezens een weldaad en licht heft de nood van de ziel op. Dus moet de mensen wijsheid aangeboden worden, opdat ze wetend worden en licht en kracht ontvangen. Dit is de enige mogelijkheid om de ziel te helpen, zodat ze rijp wordt, zolang ze op aarde verblijft.

Weliswaar voelt de mens er weinig van, als de ziel in nood verkeert, want hij vestigt zijn aandacht meer op de behoeften van het lichaam en neemt er genoegen mee, als hij deze behoeften kan vervullen. En omdat hij de nood van de ziel niet voelt, doet hij ook niets om haar te helpen.

Maar de naar geestelijke goederen strevende mens kent de nood van de zielen in het hiernamaals en de te lage rijpheidstoestand en hij moet zijn kennis gebruiken en de dwalende mens helpen, doordat hij met volle liefde hem ertoe probeert te bewegen om eveneens geestelijke goederen na te streven en hem de waardeloosheid van de aardse goederen voor ogen houdt.

De zorgen om de ziel van de medemens is de ware uitoefening van de naastenliefde, want ze kan de ziel van het eeuwige verderf redden. En als de mens om kracht vraagt voor dit werkzaam zijn in liefde, zal hij nooit een vergeefs verzoek doen. Hij zal in dezelfde mate kracht ontvangen, als hij deze gebruiken wil voor het heil van de zielen.

Help in emotional distress the greatest work of love for our neighbour....

This is the most important commandment of neighbourly love, that you should not leave your fellow human beings in the misery of their souls. All earthly hardship comes to an end and is therefore not to be taken so seriously. But the hardship of the soul remains, even if the human being ends his earthly life, if he does not try to remedy it on earth. And where his own strength is not sufficient to do so, you should help him, otherwise you will not feel love in your heart and thus not fulfil the divine commandment of neighbourly love. For such a soul is weakened and unable to muster the strength to redeem itself. It is dark and without light, it is ignorant and unfree.... and you should change this state into a knowing, light-filled and free one. And therefore you have to teach these people, you have to give them a clear picture of how they should walk their earthly path, you have to introduce them to the same knowledge which makes you happy and which you have already absorbed within yourselves. The immersion into the spiritual gifts directly sent to you by God must make every soul happy, and conversely, a hapless state will mean spiritual hardship for the soul because there is no light and brightness in the human being. And thus, if your fellow human being languishes in spiritual darkness, you will be doing the greatest work of love if you show him ways and means to banish this darkness. Souls in need do not have the strength to approach the light, so the human being has to carry the light towards them. He must venture into the darkest areas in order to illuminate them with his light.... For light is a blessing even for those beings who are still completely ignorant, and light remedies the soul's adversity, thus people must be offered wisdom so that they will become knowledgeable and receive light and strength. This is the only way to help the soul to mature as long as it remains on earth. Admittedly, the human being feels little when the soul is in need, for he focuses more on the body's needs and is content if he can fulfil them. And because he does not feel the soul's need, he does nothing to help it. The person striving for spiritual possessions, however, knows about the soul's hardship in the beyond and about its lack of maturity, and he should use his knowledge and help the erring person by lovingly trying to persuade him to strive for spiritual possessions as well and by showing him the worthlessness of earthly possessions. Caring for the soul of one's fellow human being is the true exercise of neighbourly love, for it can save the soul from eternal ruin. And if a person asks for strength for this labour of love, he will never make a wrong request. He will receive strength to the same extent as he wants to use it for the salvation of souls....
