Idleness of life.... church christians....

People must be directly influenced, for they pay little attention to the fate of their fellow human beings and remain unaffected by it, thus they do not draw any conclusions which could favourably influence their way of life. People's indifference is far worse than a blatant rejection, for such arises from ignorance and can still result in a change of attitude, whereas an indifferent person is nowhere to be touched and therefore will be lost without salvation if he cannot be roused from his indifference.... which always requires a distress of his own life. People can find themselves in a spiritual void despite church faith and seemingly religious life because their soul is not involved in any way, because only purely mechanical demands are fulfilled and a spiritual attitude towards it is completely missing. These people will outwardly be counted among the 'righteous', among the 'faithful'.... But they are always only church christians for whom their christianity is a worldly affair like everything else.... To teach them that they lack the spirit would be unsuccessful, for they have too high an opinion of themselves and do not accept such teachings, always relying on the fulfilment of what is demanded of them ecclesiastically.... And yet, their life is an idle one if it does not reveal a change in love.... And these people often have to be touched hard so that they wake up from their soul's sleep, so that they reflect and ask themselves what might be the reason for such strokes of fate.... They must be affected themselves, only then will it be possible for them to seriously consider spiritual questions, and then the strokes of fate will have been a blessing. As soon as a person is willing to love he will also be affected by his fellow human being's fate, and then he can draw spiritual benefit from everything he experiences around him.... But people's hearts are hardened, love has grown cold.... No matter how great the misfortune.... it does not trigger a warm feeling in the fellow human being, and even less does it determine him to reflect on the cause or to change his way of life. It is a danger in which people float because of their indifference, for all remedies remain without success as long as they do not let themselves be touched by it. And therefore ever more severe blows have to come upon people, and the adversity will not abate because it alone can be heard as a wake-up call and bring about a change of heart.... For everything will still be tried which could serve the salvation of those souls....

Una corsa a vuoto della vita - I cristiani di chiesa

Sugli uomini dev’essere agito direttamente, perché non badano al destino che riguarda i prossimi, e ne rimangono intoccati, quindi non traggono nemmeno delle conclusioni che potrebbero influenzarli favorevolmente nel loro cammino di vita. L’indifferenza degli uomini è molto più grave che un inaudito rifiuto, perché questo sorge dall’ignoranza e può sempre aver per conseguenza un cambiamento della mentalità, mentre non si può toccare in nessun modo un uomo indifferente e perciò va perduto senza speranza, se non può essere disturbato nella sua indifferenza, cosa che richiede sempre un’oppressione nella sua propria vita. Gli uomini che malgrado la fede di chiesa ed una vita apparentemente religiosa, si possono trovare in un vuoto spirituale, perché la loro anima non è partecipe in nessun modo, perché vengono adempiute solamente delle richieste puramente meccaniche ed in ciò manca totalmente una predisposizione d’animo spirituale. Questi uomini nell’esteriore vengono annoverati fra i “giusti”, fra i “credenti”. Ma sono sempre soltanto dei cristiani di chiesa, per i quali il loro cristianesimo è una faccenda mondana come tutto il resto. Sarebbe senza successo istruirli che a loro manca lo spirito, perché hanno un’opinione troppo alta di sé stessi e non accettano tali insegnamenti, basandosi sempre sull’adempimento di ciò che viene preteso da loro dalla chiesa. E ciononostante la loro vita è una corsa a vuoto, se non fa riconoscere un cambiamento nell’amore. E questi uomini devono essere sovente ripresi duramente, affinché si risveglino dal sonno della loro anima, affinché riflettano e si domandino che cosa potrebbe essere il motivo di tali colpi del destino. Loro stessi devono essere colpiti, solo allora è possibile che si occupino seriamente con questioni spirituali, allora i colpi del destino sono stati una Benedizione. Appena l’uomo è volonteroso d’amare, sarà anche toccato dal destino del prossimo, ed allora può trarre un’utilità spirituale da tutto ciò che sperimenta intorno a sé. Ma gli uomini sono di cuore indurito, l’amore è raffreddato. E per quanto sia grande il disastro, non fa scaturire nessun caldo sentimento nel prossimo, ed ancora meno lo determina alla riflessione sul motivo o al cambiamento del cammino della sua vita. E’ un pericolo in cui si trovano gli uomini per via della loro indifferenza, perché tutti i mezzi ausiliari rimangono senza successo, finché non se ne lasciano toccare. E perciò devono venire sugli uomini dei colpi sempre più gravi, e la miseria non s’interromperà, perché può essere sentita solamente come chiamata di risveglio e procura un cambiamento della mentalità. Perciò viene tentato ancora tutto ciò che potrebbe servire di salvezza per quelle anime.
