Idleness of life.... church christians....

People must be directly influenced, for they pay little attention to the fate of their fellow human beings and remain unaffected by it, thus they do not draw any conclusions which could favourably influence their way of life. People's indifference is far worse than a blatant rejection, for such arises from ignorance and can still result in a change of attitude, whereas an indifferent person is nowhere to be touched and therefore will be lost without salvation if he cannot be roused from his indifference.... which always requires a distress of his own life. People can find themselves in a spiritual void despite church faith and seemingly religious life because their soul is not involved in any way, because only purely mechanical demands are fulfilled and a spiritual attitude towards it is completely missing. These people will outwardly be counted among the 'righteous', among the 'faithful'.... But they are always only church christians for whom their christianity is a worldly affair like everything else.... To teach them that they lack the spirit would be unsuccessful, for they have too high an opinion of themselves and do not accept such teachings, always relying on the fulfilment of what is demanded of them ecclesiastically.... And yet, their life is an idle one if it does not reveal a change in love.... And these people often have to be touched hard so that they wake up from their soul's sleep, so that they reflect and ask themselves what might be the reason for such strokes of fate.... They must be affected themselves, only then will it be possible for them to seriously consider spiritual questions, and then the strokes of fate will have been a blessing. As soon as a person is willing to love he will also be affected by his fellow human being's fate, and then he can draw spiritual benefit from everything he experiences around him.... But people's hearts are hardened, love has grown cold.... No matter how great the misfortune.... it does not trigger a warm feeling in the fellow human being, and even less does it determine him to reflect on the cause or to change his way of life. It is a danger in which people float because of their indifference, for all remedies remain without success as long as they do not let themselves be touched by it. And therefore ever more severe blows have to come upon people, and the adversity will not abate because it alone can be heard as a wake-up call and bring about a change of heart.... For everything will still be tried which could serve the salvation of those souls....

Marcha en vacío de la vida - Cristianos de iglesia

Los hombres tienen que ser directamente influenciados, pues del destino que les toca a sus semejantes hacen ellos poco caso, y permanecen inafectados de eso, no sacan consecuencias, por lo tanto, de ninguna clase, las que podrían influenciar su conducta favorablemente. La indolencia de los hombres es mucho peor que un burdo rechazo, pues uno tal procede de la ignorancia y puede siempre llevar a un cambio del carácter, mientras que a un hombre indolente no se le puede agarrar por ningún lado y por eso puede ser que sin salvación se pierda, si no puede ser espantado de su indiferencia. Lo cual exige siempre un apuro de su propia vida. Los hombres pueden encontrarse en un vacío espiritual a pesar de su fe eclesiástica y aparente vida religiosa, porque su alma no se participa en ningún modo, porque sólo cumplirá exigencias meramente mecánicas y para ellas falta por completo una actitud y sintonización espiritual. Esos hombres contarán hacia afuera de los justos, a los "fieles". Pero siempre son sólo cristianos de iglesias, a los que su cristianismo es un asunto mundano como todo lo demás.

Instruir a estos de que les falta el espíritu, sería infructuoso, pues ellos tienen de sí mismos un parecer demasiado alto y no admiten tales instrucciones, apoyándose siempre en el cumplimiento de aquello, que eclesiásticamente se exige de ellos. Y no obstante es su vida una marcha en vacío, si no se deja reconocer una conducta de amor. Y a estos hombres hay que darles una conducta en amor. Y estos hombres tienen que ser agarrados con firmeza, para que despierten del sueño de su alma, para que reflexionen y se pregunten, cuál puede ser el motivo de tales infortunios. Ellos mismos tienen que estar afectados, entonces es posible, que seriamente se ocupen con preguntas esprituales, y entonces los reveses de la vida han sido de bendición. Así como el hombre sea solícito en amor, le afectará el destino de sus semejantes, y entonces puede sacar él un provecho espiritual de todo lo que se les presencia a su alrededor. Pero los hombres son de corazón endurecido, el amor se ha enfriado. Y por muy grande que sea la desgracia, no causa un sentir sincero en sus semejantes, y aún mucho menos los induce a reflexionar sobre el motivo o al cambio de su conducta. Es un peligro en el que están los hombres a causa de su indiferencia, pues todos los remedios se quedan sin éxito tanto tiempo como ellos no estén afectados. Y por eso tienen que sobrevenir a los hombres golpes duros, y la desgracia no cesará, porque ella únicamente es el grito despertador y puede llevar a cabo un cambio de opinión. Todo se intentará todavía, lo que pueda servir a cada una de esas almas de salvación.
