Wooing for the love of God....

Anyone who wants to win God's affection must court His love, thus do everything that is pleasing to Him. He must deeply unite with Him, long for the closest union with Him and only ever listen to the expression of His will which is, as it were, placed in his heart. To be loved by God is a state of bliss that is incomparable and is also only consciously felt by a few people. God's love is indeed meant for all His creations but its strength will be differently effective depending on the relationship between the creature and the creator. And therefore the human being himself must shape the relationship such that he is able to feel the strength of divine love. God is always ready for love, and the human being should make use of this and acquire His love through heartfelt devotion and acceptance of God's will. He should let himself be drawn by Him, he should give up all resistance, he should open himself to God's emanation of love in order to then be able to receive what will make him unspeakably happy. And all this requires complete surrender of the world with all its joys and goods.... furthermore, it necessitates the surrender of everything of earthly value to the human being, the sacrifice of all pleasing things in order to exchange them for God's love, which alone wants to fill the human being's heart. What you love on earth you must give away if you want to receive Him into your heart and enjoy His presence. And if you are able to sacrifice, God will reward you for your love.... And if you separate yourselves from covetous possessions for His sake, His eye will rest upon you with pleasure and you will feel His strength of love. And you will not regret it, for what you give you will receive back a thousand times over. God's love is a most delicious gift which allows nothing else to arise beside it, and it is up to you to receive this delicious gift when nothing else seems desirable to you and you only strive to be blissfully happy in union with God. Then your heart will be shaped to receive Him Who can already give you the highest happiness on earth and one day in eternity.... Then His love will belong to you, which you will feel in its strength....

하나님의 사랑을 얻기 위해 애쓰는 일.

하나님의 애정을 얻기 원하는 사람은 하나님의 사랑을 구해야만 하고, 하나님을 기쁘게 하는 모든 일을 해야만 한다. 그는 하나님과 가장 긴밀한 연합을 갈망하면서 그와 깊게 연결돼야만 하고, 항상 그의 의지의 표현에 귀를 기울여야만 한다. 하나님은 그의 심장 안에서 어느 정도로 자신의 의지를 알려준다. 하나님의 사랑을 받는 일은 비교할 수 없게 행복한 상태이다. 그러나 이런 행복을 의식적으로 느끼는 사람은 적다. 하나님의 사랑은 실제 그의 모든 피조물에게 적용되지만, 하나님의 힘은 피조물이 창조주와 가지고 있는 관계에 따라 다르게 효력을 발휘할 것이다. 그러므로 인간 자신이 관계를 형성하여, 그가 하나님의 사랑의 힘을 느낄 수 있게 해야 한다.

하나님은 항상 사랑을 베풀 준비가 되어 있고, 인간은 이를 활용해 가장 긴밀한 헌신과 하나님의 뜻을 성취시키는 일을 통해 그의 사랑을 얻어야 한다. 그는 하나님이 자신을 이끌게 해야 하고, 모든 저항을 포기해야 한다. 그는 말할 수 없이 행복하게 해주는 것을 받을 수 있기 위해 하나님의 사랑의 발산에 자신을 열어야 한다. 이 모든 일은 세상의 모든 기쁨과 재물을 완전한 포기하는 일을 요구하고, 더 나아가 단지 유일하게 인간의 심장을 채우기 원하는 하나님의 사랑과 인간에게 가치 있는 세상 재물과 그를 기쁘게 하는 모든 것과 교환하기 위해 이 모든 것을 희생하는 일을 요구한다.

너희가 하나님을 너희 심장 속으로 영접하고, 그의 임재를 누리기 원하면, 너희가 이 땅에서 사랑하는 것을 포기해야만 한다. 너희가 희생할 수 있다면, 하나님은 너희의 사랑에 보상을 해줄 것이다. 너희가 하나님을 위해 너희에게 탐욕스러운 재물을 포기하면, 하나님의 눈이 기뻐하며 너희를 바라보게 될 것이고, 너희는 하나님의 사랑의 힘을 눈에 띄게 깨닫게 될 것이다. 너희는 후회하지 않을 것이다. 왜냐면 너희는 너희가 희생한 것을 천 배로 돌려받기 때문이다.

하나님의 사랑은 너희에 주어질 수 있는 다른 어떤 것과 비교할 수 없는 아주 귀중한 선물이다. 너희에게 더 이상 달리 갈망하는 것이 없게 보이고, 너희가 단지 하나님과 연합이 된 가운데 축복되려는 추구를 한다면, 가장 귀한 선물을 받게 되는 일이 너희 자신에게 달려 있고, 그러면 너희 심장이 이 땅에서 이미 그리고 언젠가 영원 가운데 너희에게 가장 높은 행복을 줄 수 있는 것을 받을 수 있게 형성이 된 것이다. 그러면 하나님의 사랑이 너희에게 속하고, 너희는 하나님의 힘을 느끼게 될 것이다.
