"Seek ye first the kingdom of God...."

Seek first the kingdom of God and you will be able to cover earthly life without worrying about what the body needs, for all this will fall to you, as the lord has promised. For only one thing is important, that you receive the life of the soul, then God Himself will take over the care of your body and its needs. But as soon as you lose faith in this promise you will have to take care of yourselves, and thereby you will get caught in the adversary's nets, who will try to make you believe that this care is the most important and wants to prevent you from thinking of your soul. And now you run the risk of becoming materialistic, of focusing your thoughts and actions entirely on the acquisition of matter, of neglecting the kingdom of God in your constant concern for your body and finally only living a purely earthly life without taking your soul's salvation into account. God has only set one aim for your earthly life.... that your soul will develop upwards.... and in order to achieve this aim you must detach yourselves from matter, you may desire nothing but that which is helpful to the soul. And you can free yourselves from all worries with complete faith if you remember Christ's promise, for His word is truth, and if you first seek God's kingdom then you will fulfil His will and God will also take care of you. But people's striving is mostly directed towards the preservation and well-being of the body, and this in excess, so that spiritual striving takes a back seat and understandably no spiritual progress can be achieved. And it is this lack of trust in the love of God, Who sustains everything He has created. With faith and trust in God's help the human being can become free of all earthly worries, he can easily and light-heartedly go through earthly life, but as soon as he spends every effort on his soul's salvation, as soon as he fully consciously strives towards the spiritual kingdom, as soon as he tries to fulfil God's will in everything and thus strives to reach the kingdom of God. But the belief in this is almost no longer to be found amongst people, and therefore they create a life full of worries and troubles for themselves, they burden themselves with a burden which the lord God has promised them to carry if they fulfil their task in life.... to put their spiritual welfare before the welfare of the body. God sustains the whole of creation, He continuously takes care of its existence and everything develops according to His will. And likewise His care applies to the most highly developed creature, the human being, and his earthly life is just as assured as that of the whole of creation. Yet God has made it dependent on the human being's will, He has set him a condition the fulfilment of which will result in a carefree existence. But if people do not observe this condition they will have a difficult earthly life because they will lose God's care for the body. Earthly life is given to the human being for the sake of the soul, and thus the soul should be considered first, it should be supplied with what it needs for spiritual maturity.... and this can only be fetched and received from the spiritual kingdom. Therefore the human being's senses must always be directed towards the spiritual kingdom, for the earthly kingdom does not offer the soul the nourishment it lacks. The earthly kingdom only fulfils the body's needs, and the human being should faithfully and trustingly allow God to give it to him, as He has promised, and strive all the more for the spiritual kingdom, which is not given to him but which gives what the soul desires according to its desire. And therefore cast all worries upon the lord.... He will take them from you the more intimately you strive for union with Him, the more your soul detaches itself from earthly things and only adheres to that which brings it union with God. And you will truly be safe in His care, you will want for nothing, for He is full of love and might, He can provide for you and will provide for you if only you strive for Him, for His kingdom....

“Zoek eerst het rijk Gods”

Zoek eerst het rijk Gods en u zult het aardse leven kunnen afleggen zonder zorgen over datgene wat het lichaam nodig heeft. Want dit alles zal u ten deel vallen zoals de Heer het heeft beloofd. Want slechts één ding is belangrijk: dat u zorgt voor het leven van de ziel. Dan zal God Zelf de zorg over uw lichaam en zijn behoeften overnemen. Maar zodra u het geloof in deze belofte verliest, zult u voor uzelf moeten zorgen. En daardoor raakt u in de vangnetten van de vijand, die zich inspant u nu deze zorgen als het belangrijkste voor te stellen en die u ervan af wil houden aan uw ziel te denken. En nu loopt u het gevaar materialistisch te worden, uw denken en handelen alleen in te stellen op het verkrijgen van de materie, in voortdurende zorg om het lichaam het rijk Gods te verwaarlozen en uiteindelijk alleen nog puur aards voort te leven zonder rekening te houden met het heil van uw ziel.

Slechts één doel heeft God u voor uw leven op aarde gesteld, dat uw ziel zich positief ontwikkelt. En om dit doel te bereiken, zult u zich moeten losmaken van de materie. U zult niets mogen begeren dan dat wat voor uw ziel dienstig is. En u kunt zich ook in vol geloof van alle zorgen vrij maken, als u denkt aan de belofte van Christus, want Zijn Woord is waarheid. En zoekt u op de eerste plaats het rijk Gods, dan vervult u Zijn wil en dan zorgt God ook voor u. Het streven van de mensen geldt echter meestal de instandhouding van een goed leventje voor het lichaam, en wel in overdaad, zodat het geestelijk streven op de achtergrond raakt en er begrijpelijkerwijs geen geestelijke vooruitgang kan worden behaald. En dit is het gebrek aan vertrouwen op de Liefde van God die alles in stand houdt wat Hij heeft geschapen.

Met het geloof en het vertrouwen op de hulp van God kan de mens vrij van elke aardse zorg worden. Hij kan gemakkelijk en onbezorgd door het aardse leven gaan, zodra hij nu maar elke zorg aan zijn zielenheil besteedt, zodra hij heel bewust naar het geestelijke rijk streeft, zodra hij probeert in alles de wil van God te vervullen en dus tracht het rijk Gods te bereiken. Maar het geloof daarin is onder de mensen bijna niet meer te vinden. En daarom brengen ze voor zichzelf een leven vol van zorgen en moeiten teweeg. Ze laden zich een last op hun rug die God de Heer hun beloofd had te dragen als ze hun levenstaak nakomen, hun geestelijk welzijn voorrang geven boven het welzijn van het lichaam.

God onderhoudt de gehele schepping. Hij zorgt ononderbroken voor het bestaan ervan. En alles ontwikkelt zich naar Zijn wil. En evenzo geldt Zijn zorg het hoogst ontwikkelde schepsel, de mens, en zijn aards bestaan is net zo gewaarborgd als dat van de gehele schepping. Toch heeft God het afhankelijk gemaakt van de wil van de mens. Hij heeft hem een voorwaarde gesteld waarvan de vervulling hem een zorgeloos bestaan oplevert. Maar nemen de mensen deze voorwaarde niet in acht, dan hebben ze een moeilijk leven op aarde, omdat ze de zorg van God voor het lichaam kwijtraken.

Ter wille van de ziel is de mens het leven op aarde gegeven en dus moet de ziel als eerste worden bedeeld. Haar moet worden toegevoerd wat ze nodig heeft voor haar geestelijke rijpheid en dit is alleen uit het geestelijke rijk te halen en te ontvangen. Daarom moeten steeds de gedachten van de mens op het geestelijke rijk zijn gericht, want het aardse rijk biedt de ziel niet de voeding die haar ontbreekt. Het aardse rijk vervult alleen de behoeften van het lichaam en deze moet de mens zich gelovig en vol vertrouwen door God laten schenken, zoals Hij het heeft beloofd. En hij moet des te meer naar het geestelijke rijk streven, dat hem niet wordt geschonken, maar in overeenstemming met zijn verlangen geeft waar de ziel om vraagt.

Werp daarom alle zorgen op de Heer. Hij zal ze van u afnemen, hoe inniger u de vereniging met Hem nastreeft, hoe meer uw ziel zich losmaakt van het aardse en alleen gehecht is aan dat wat haar de vereniging met God oplevert. En in Zijn zorg zult u waarlijk geborgen zijn. Het zal u aan niets ontbreken, want Hij is vol van Liefde en Macht. Hij kan u bedenken en Hij zal u bedenken als u maar op Hem, op Zijn rijk aanstuurt.
