Recognizing God through the wonders of creation....

The utilization of divine grace also presupposes the will to come close to God, and since this will earns man everything he asks for, God's grace also comes to him unmeasured. For the willing person also utilizes grace, as this again increases willpower. In endeavouring to live in a way that is pleasing to God, his heart is also willing to love and, thanks to God's grace, also able to love. So for the time being man needs nothing more than to recognize God and himself as His creature, unworthy and small in relation to Him, and to ask Him, then he also asks Him in the right way and this humble request is granted. But in order to recognize God, it is enough to delve deeply into the divine creation, to contemplate the works of wonder and to relate oneself to them. Serious thoughts about this will certainly lead him to the conclusion that he himself is in an affirmative attitude towards his creator, and then the desire to come close to Him will awaken in him. Then God's love will take hold of him and help him to reach the height.... It is only ineffective where the human being remains in the will to reject. For his attitude towards God is up to him. As soon as the spirit of arrogance prevails in him, the influence of God's adversary, man blindly passes by the marvellous works of divine creation. Consequently, he does not take the right attitude towards his creator either. He wants to deny Him because he does not want to submit, or his attitude towards God is neither humble nor demanding. He does not request God's grace, consequently it cannot be granted to him, for he is endowed with gifts for the time of his life on earth as a human being which can and should bring about his free decision.... If he does not use this gift, i.e., if he does not use his thinking and willing in the right way, then he also decides, but not in favour of God but against him.... And then he makes the bestowal of divine grace impossible. Without this, however, it is also not possible to reach the heights. The will of man is the deciding factor; it cannot be directed by God. Man himself must freely decide in favour of God, only then is his spiritual ascent guaranteed....

창조의 기적을 통해 하나님을 아는 일.

하나님의 은혜를 이용하는 일은 또한 하나님께 더 가까이 다가가려는 의지를 전제로 한다. 이런 의지가 사람이 구하는 모든 것을 얻게 해주기 때문에, 하나님의 은혜가 그에게 또한 측량할 수 없게 주어진다. 원하는 사람이 이 은혜를 활용한다. 왜냐면 이 은혜가 다시 의지의 힘을 증가시키기 때문이다.

하나님을 기쁘게 하는 삶을 살려고 애쓰는 가운데 그의 심장은 또한 사랑할 준비가 되어 있고, 하나님의 은혜를 공급받아, 그는 또한 사랑을 행할 수 있다. 그러므로 인간은 먼저 하나님을 인정하고, 하나님 앞에 자신을 합당하지 않은, 작은 피조물로 인정하고, 그를 갈망하는 일 외에는 아무 일도 필요하지 않다. 그러면 그가 하나님께 올바른 방식으로 구하는 것이다. 이런 겸손한 요청은 응답을 받는다.

그러나 하나님을 깨닫기 위해, 하나님의 창조물 안으로 깊이 들어가, 기적을 바라보고, 창조물과 자신을 연관시키는 일로 충분하다. 그런 진지한 생각을 통해, 그 자신이 자신의 창조주를 인정하는 태도를 취하는 결과에 확실하게 도달한다. 그러면 그 안에서 하나님께 가까이 다가가려는 욕망이 깨어나게 될 것이다. 그러면 하나님의 사랑이 그를 붙잡아, 위로 향하는 일을 돕는다.

사람이 거부하려는 의지를 고수하는 경우에만 단지 하나님의 힘의 효과가 나타나지 않는다. 왜냐면 하나님을 향한 태도를 정하는 일은 그의 자유이기 때문이다. 하나님의 대적자의 영향력인 오만의 영이 그를 지배한다면, 인간은 하나님의 창조의 기적을 보지 못하고 지나친다. 결과적으로 그는 창조주에 대한 올바른 자세를 갖지 않는다. 그는 자신의 창조주를 부인하기를 원한다. 왜냐면 그가 자신의 창조주에게 복종하기를 원하지 않기 때문이다. 또는 그의 하나님을 향한 태도가 겸손하지 않고, 갈망하는 태도가 아니기 때문이다. 그는 하나님의 은혜를 요구하지 않는다. 결과적으로 하나님의 은혜가 그에게 주어질 수 없다. 왜냐하면 그는 인간으로 이 땅에서 사는 동안, 자신의 자유로운 결정을 내릴 수 있고, 내려야 하는 선물을 받았기 때문이다.

그가 이런 선물을 활용하지 않는다면, 다시 말해 그가 자신의 생각과 의지를 올바른 방법으로 사용하지 않는다면, 그는 또한 결정을 하지만, 하나님을 위해 결정이 아니라, 하나님을 반대하는 결정을 한다. 그러면 그는 하나님의 은혜를 받는 일을 불가능하게 만든다. 그러나 하나님의 은혜가 없이는, 높은 곳에 도달할 수 없다. 사람의 의지가 결정적이다. 하나님이 사람의 의지를 정해줄 수 없다. 인간이 스스로 자유롭게 하나님을 위하는 결정을 해야만 한다. 그러면 비로소 그의 영적인 높은 성장이 보장이 된다.
