State of death on earth and in the afterlife.... inactivity....

Everything changes and nothing remains as it is.... Consequently, everything that creation harbours is also alive. On the other hand, there is a state that can rightly be called lifeless.... This is the spiritual stagnation that can be found where materialism prevails. Although lively earthly activity can be recognized there, spiritual activity is switched off. And the consequence of this is that all spiritual development is impossible, thus the soul remains in the same state it was in before. But inactivity is a sign of death.... What is dead is motionless, it is as it were without any life, it is something worthless that has no purpose or goal and therefore remains unnoticed. However, we cannot speak of a dead being as such, because as long as the power from God flows into a work of creation, the ability to live is also in it. But God does not withdraw this power from any being, even if it does not use it according to divine will. But God withdraws His love from a spiritually inactive being and this results in a standstill, and a cooling of divine love results in the hardening of the spiritual (the spiritual substance?). This fate is unspeakably sad, for only the state of uninterrupted activity is blissful, whereas remaining in the same external form is depressing and even more depressing when the being discards its external form and enters the spiritual kingdom and no longer has the opportunity to be active.... when it is forcibly pushed into a lifeless state through its own fault. The being can remain in this state for eternities without being able to receive help because it is stubborn and rejects all help, thus if it does nothing to end its state of inactivity. In earthly life the being will not feel this dead state because earthly activity does not let it recognize the spiritually dead state. Consequently, it will not be remedied either since the being lacks the will. And if the being's will is already bound on earth, this is even more so in the beyond. There it can be given advice from all sides, the being also lacks the strength to will.... it is apathetic or completely obdurate.... But both characterize the distance from God and therefore the bound, unfree state, which expresses itself in inactivity and lack of will. This is the state of death, of darkness, in contrast to the state of life, which is eternity's brightest light and signifies constant activity....

Toestand van de dood op aarde en in het hiernamaals – Passiviteit

Alles verandert en niets blijft zoals het is. Bijgevolg leeft ook alles, wat de schepping in zich bevat. Daarentegen bestaat er een toestand, die met recht levenloos genoemd kan worden. Dit is de geestelijke stilstand, die daar aan te treffen is, waar het materialisme overheerst. Daar is weliswaar aardse activiteit te herkennen, maar geestelijke activiteit is er uitgeschakeld. En dit heeft tot gevolg, dat elke verdere ontwikkeling van de ziel onmogelijk is. Dat de ziel in dezelfde toestand blijft, waarin ze van tevoren al was.

Maar passiviteit is een teken van de dood. Wat dood is, is onbeweeglijk. Het is in zekere zin zonder enig leven. Het is iets, dat waardeloos is en daarom wordt het niet opgemerkt. Maar er kan niet van een dood wezen op zich gesproken worden. Want zo lang de kracht uit God naar een scheppingswerk toestroomt, is het ook in staat om te leven. Maar God ontneemt geen wezen deze kracht, ofschoon het deze niet volgens de goddelijke wil gebruikt.

Maar God onttrekt Zijn liefde aan een passief wezen en dit heeft de stilstand tot gevolg en een bekoelen van de goddelijke liefde heeft ook effect op de verharding van het geestelijke. Dit lot is onuitsprekelijk treurig, want gelukkig makend is enkel de toestand van ononderbroken werkzaamheid. Belastend daarentegen is het verblijf in steeds dezelfde uiterlijke vorm en nog meer belastend is het, wanneer het wezen zijn uiterlijke vorm aflegt en het het geestelijke rijk binnengaat en het geen mogelijkheid meer heeft om werkzaam te zijn. Wanneer het door eigen schuld gedwongen in een levenloze toestand gedrukt wordt. Het wezen kan eeuwigheden in deze toestand blijven, zonder dat hem hulp gebracht kan worden, omdat het koppig is en elke hulp afwijst. Wanneer het dus niets doet om de toestand van passiviteit te beëindigen.

In het aardse leven zal het wezen deze dode toestand niet zo voelen, want aardse werkzaamheid laat hem de geestelijke toestand niet herkennen. Bijgevolg wordt deze toestand ook niet opgeheven, omdat het het wezen aan de wil ontbreekt. En is op aarde de wil van het wezen al gebonden, dan is dit nog veel meer gebonden in het hiernamaals. Daar kan hem van alle kanten advies gegeven worden, maar het ontbreekt het wezen ook aan de kracht om te willen. Het is apathisch of geheel verstokt.

Maar beiden kenmerken het ver af staan van God en dus de gebonden, onvrije toestand, die tot uiting komt in passiviteit en een ontbrekende wil. Dit is de toestand van de dood. De duisternis, in tegenstelling tot de toestand van het leven. Dat is de eeuwigheid in het helderste licht en het betekent onophoudelijke werkzaamheid.
