Overcoming matter in the hereafter....

Coarse matter is the last obstacle which the soul has to overcome in order to finally become free. The change through all forms now comes to an end with the death of the body of man, but the desire in the hereafter is still for the same things as in earth life, as long as the soul on earth has not completely overcome matter. But now a change is taking place. The desire for it is strong.... it therefore has the effect that everything he longs for is before his eyes.... within reach.... and when he wants to satisfy his desire, it has disappeared before his eyes. The agony of being unsatisfied is unimaginable, but it is the only means by which man can learn to overcome matter. As soon as he begins to realize that everything is only reflected before his spiritual eye, he curbs his desire, thus begins to despise earthly things, and only then does he think about his sad situation, and only then can he reach the heights. This battle against matter should be fought as far as possible in earthly life by suppressing the desire for the goods of the world at an early stage and striving for spiritual good. It takes thousands of years before the soul has changed through matter, and its former cover presents itself to it once again in earth life in everything that now surrounds the human being, so that the soul now finally separates itself from that which was its abode for endless times. And it will not pass the test if it allows itself to be captured again by that which it is supposed to give away of its own free will. If it does not succeed in doing so then matter will torment it anew in the beyond, but in a way which means pain and agony for the soul, whereas in earthly life overcoming it only requires its will and can be replaced by spiritual possessions which are likewise offered to it and.... if this is accepted.... the desire for matter is stifled by itself. „You cannot serve two masters“, it says, and this also applies to spiritual and earthly good, i.e. to what is offered to the soul from above and what is accessible to it on earth as matter. He who desires the one forfeits the other, and in order to possess the one, the other must be sacrificed. But if the soul takes the desire for earthly goods with it into the hereafter, the change on earth was in vain. It stands where it stood at the beginning of its embodiment as a human being, and in order to purify the soul from the last dross, painful means are required, and the life in the beyond is only a state of unspeakable agony....

Überwinden der Materie im Jenseits....

Die grobe Materie ist das letzte Hindernis, das die Seele überwinden muß zur letzten Freiwerdung. Der Wandel durch alle Formen findet nun sein Ende mit dem Leibestod des Menschen, es gilt aber das Verlangen im Jenseits noch den gleichen Dingen wie im Erdenleben, sofern die Seele auf Erden nicht restlos die Materie überwunden hat. Doch nun geht ein Wandel vor sich. Das Verlangen danach ist stark.... es bewirkt daher, daß alles, was er sich ersehnt, vor seinem Auge ist.... greifbar nahe.... und so er nun sein Verlangen befriedigen will, ist es vor seinen Augen verschwunden. Die Qualen des Unbefriedigtwerden sind unvorstellbar, jedoch das einzige Mittel, daß der Mensch die Materie überwinden lerne. Sowie er nun einzusehen beginnt, daß sich alles nur vor seinem geistigen Auge spiegelt, zügelt er sein Verlangen, beginnt also, irdische Dinge zu verachten, und nun denkt er erst über seine traurige Lage nach, und dann erst kann er zur Höhe gelangen. Dieser Kampf wider die Materie soll möglichst im Erdenleben ausgefochten werden, indem das Verlangen nach den Gütern der Welt schon frühzeitig unterdrückt wird und geistiges Gut angestrebt wird. Es gehören Tausende von Jahren dazu, ehe die Seele die Materie durchwandelt hat, und ihre ehemalige Umhüllung stellt sich ihr im Erdenleben noch einmal vor in allem, was den Menschen nun umgibt, auf daß die Seele sich nun endgültig trennt von dem, was ihr Aufenthalt war endlose Zeiten hindurch. Und sie besteht die Probe nicht, wenn sie sich wieder von dem gefangen läßt, was sie hingeben soll aus freiem Willen. Gelingt ihr dies nicht, dann quält die Materie sie aufs neue im Jenseits, aber in einer Weise, die Pein und Qual für die Seele bedeutet, während im Erdenleben das Überwinden nur ihren Willen fordert und ersetzt werden kann durch geistiges Gut, das ihr gleichfalls geboten wird und.... so dieses angenommen wird.... das Verlangen nach der Materie von selbst erstickt. "Ihr könnt nicht zwei Herren dienen", heißt es, und dies gilt auch für geistiges und irdisches Gut, d.h. für das, was der Seele geboten wird von oben und was auf Erden als Materie ihr zugänglich ist. Wer das eine begehrt, läßt das andere fallen, und um das eine besitzen zu können, muß das andere geopfert werden. Nimmt die Seele aber das Verlangen nach irdischem Gut mit in das Jenseits hinüber, so war der Erdenwandel vergeblich. Sie steht dort, wo sie am Anfang ihrer Verkörperung als Mensch stand, und um die Seele nun von den letzten Schlacken zu läutern, gehören schmerzliche Mittel, und das jenseitige Leben ist erst ein Zustand unsagbarer Qual....
