Instincts of preliminary stages determine character....

The current stage of human existence is more or less the same as the state of the spiritual substance within every external form, namely the substance will always have to fight the oppositions which are most powerful within itself, therefore the human being has to fight against evil instincts within himself during his earthly existence. These are exceptionally well developed the more opportunity the spiritual essence has had to indulge itself during a preliminary stage. These instincts of the preliminary stages have left their mark on the spiritual essence, i.e. the human being has to fight particularly resolutely against such instincts.... while the human being who previously had completed his task willingly and consequently is already in a certain state of maturity will enjoy an easier life.

The will to serve liberates the substance correspondingly even while it is still surrounded by a form. And this now submissive substance will live in a form which outwardly also shows the being's willingness. Hence the soul's degree of maturity can be assessed by its external shape. In the embodiment as a human being only those substances of soul unite who share the same nature; but accordingly will also be the fight on earth because many substances of soul united and influence the being in much the same way as in the previous form. The sooner the being can learn to overcome the imperfections the less it will resist and can already become patient, willing and active during the preliminary stages .... However, if it holds on to an instinct within itself it will also have to suffer it as a human being and this determines his character....

As filmagens das etapas preliminares determinam a personagem....

A fase atual da existência do ser humano é aproximadamente a mesma que o estado do espiritual em todas as formas externas e, de fato, o ser espiritual sempre terá que lutar com as resistências que ainda estão mais poderosamente presentes nela, de modo que o ser humano, portanto, tem que lutar contra os instintos malignos dentro de si mesmo na existência terrena. Estes estão agora extraordinariamente desenvolvidos, quanto mais a vontade tinha a oportunidade de desabafar numa fase preliminar. Estes instintos das etapas preliminares deixam agora também a sua marca na disponibilidade, ou seja, o ser humano tem agora de lutar com particular força contra tais instintos, enquanto que o ser humano goza de um modo de vida mais fácil, que já cumpriu voluntariamente a sua tarefa antes e, consequentemente, já se encontra num certo estado de maturidade. A vontade de servir torna a vontade correspondentemente livre, mesmo que ainda esteja encerrada numa concha. E esta disponibilidade, agora sem precedentes, animará uma forma que também no exterior já ostenta a marca da vontade do ser. A forma exterior, portanto, será sempre tal que já se pode concluir a partir dela o grau de maturidade da alma. Na encarnação como ser humano, tais substâncias anímicas sempre se unirão, que têm a mesma natureza; mas a luta sobre a Terra também será, por isso mesmo, pois muitas substâncias anímicas se unem e influenciam o ser exatamente da mesma forma que na forma anterior. Quanto mais cedo o ser aprender a superar suas deficiências, menos resistirá e assim já poderá ser paciente, disposto e ansioso nas etapas preliminares.... No entanto, se ele mantém um impulso em si mesmo, também terá que sofrer do mesmo que um ser humano, e isso determina o seu caráter.
