Different living conditions no obstacle to the development of the soul....

People's ways of life are so diverse and yet can lead to the same result, and thus it is erroneous to assume that the soul's life can only develop in certain circumstances, whereas it must remain completely uninfluenced where the human being's situation in life is less beneficial to the soul. This view is extremely erroneous, after all, all people must have the same opportunity to reach the state of perfection, and the eternal deity can never want to favour or degrade a being, for this would never be compatible with divine love and justice. People's living conditions may seem to be favourable or unfavourable, and this gives rise to wrong conclusions, but the individual person's lot is always assigned to him in such a way that it can contribute to his higher development to the highest degree, if only he makes extensive use of it himself, and this alone is decisive. The human being is certainly often forced by extraordinary circumstances to move in a certain direction of thought, i.e. he will have to solve tasks in the worldly sphere which fill him mentally, so that he will occupy himself little or not at all with spiritual problems, yet no human being on earth is exclusively only earthly active.... There is still time for one to deal with oneself and give heed to spiritual questions, if only the will is there. And the job, the situation in life, time or place of his earthly existence is never in any way a hinderance to shaping his inner life according to divine will.... The human being's will is always the sole factor to be taken into account.... The will overcomes all external circumstances that threaten to hinder the soul's life. And again, it is the desire for the world which can be considered the greatest obstacle to the soul's higher development.... And this desire can be nourished in seemingly good as well as in bad life situations, but it can also be fought. All resistances exist in order to be overcome, and it is therefore irrelevant whether the human being has to fight a hard battle in life due to poor circumstances and in return has fewer worldly temptations or whether he has to fight out even harder battle against the world in a life of well-being.... the inner life is always and in every situation completely separate from the life of the body. Thoughts are conveyed to the human being in so many ways by the spiritual beings who look after him that it is only a matter of grasping and utilizing them. And this is never dependent on the human being's situation in life and his destiny.... because according to the wise plan of the creator, this is assigned to every human being in such a way that it guarantees the highest possible perfection and thus earthly life need only be used correctly, i.e. according to divine will, in order to lead to complete success. Thus the objection that a profession or fate makes it easier to find the way to realization is totally wrong.... Only the will alone is decisive that the human being pays attention to his inner life and is therefore active of his own accord for the salvation of his soul....

서로 다른 삶의 형편은 혼의 성장에 장애물이 아니다.

사람의 삶의 길은 매우 다르다. 그러나 같은 결과를 낳을 수 있다. 그러므로 혼의 삶이 특정한 조건에서만 성장할 수 있고, 반면에 사람의 삶의 상황이 덜 유익한 곳에서는 성장을 위해 전혀 영향을 미치지 못해야만 한다고 가정하는 일은 오류이다. 모든 사람이 온전한 상태에 도달할 수 있는 동일한 기회를 가져야만 한다면, 이런 가정은 매우 잘못된 오류이다. 영원한 신성이 한 존재를 선호하거나 선호하지 않는 일은 절대로 있을 수 없다. 왜냐하면 이런 일은 절대로 하나님의 사랑과 공의와 일치할 수 없기 때문이다.

사람들의 삶의 형편은 분명히 유리하거나 불리하다. 이 일이 잘못된 결론을 내는 원인을 제공한다. 그럴지라도 각각의 사람들의 운명이 만약에 그 자신이 단지 이 운명을 최대한으로 활용한다면, 그들의 혼의 성장에 최대한 기여할 수 있도록 그들에게 주어지고, 항상 자신의 운명을 최대한 활용하는 일이 결정적이다. 종종 인간은 특별한 상황에 의해 특정한 생각을 하도록 강요를 받는다. 즉, 그는 자신의 생각을 채우는, 해결해야만 하는 세상의 영역의 과제를 갖게 될 것이다. 이로써 그는 영적인 문제에 대해 거의 또는 전혀 관심을 가질 수 없다. 그럴지라도 이 땅의 어떤 사람도 오로지 세상 일만을 하는 사람은 없다. 모든 사람에게 단지 의지가 있다면, 그는 자신의 주변과 자신에 대해 생각하고, 영적인 질문에 주의를 기울일 시간이 있다.

또한 그의 이 땅의 직업이나, 삶의 형편이나, 그가 거하는 시대나 또는 장소가 그의 내면의 삶을 하나님의 뜻에 따라 형성하는 일에 어떤 방식으로든 절대로 방해가 되지 않는다. 항상 단지 인간의 의지가 고려해야만 하는 유일한 요소이다. 의지가 혼의 삶에 장애가 될 위험을 주는 모든 외적인 삶의 환경을 극복한다. 세상을 향한 욕망이 혼이 더 높은 성장하는 일에 가장 큰 방해하는 것으로 여길 수 있는 장애물이다. 이런 세상을 향한 욕망은 겉보기에 좋거나 나쁜 삶의 형편에서 양분을 얻을 수 있다. 그러나 또한 이에 대항하여 싸울 수 있다. 모든 저항은 극복하도록 하기 위해 있다. 그러므로 인간이 열악한 조건에서 생존을 위해 힘든 투쟁을 해야만 하고, 대신에 세상에 대한 욕망이 적거나, 아니면 행복한 삶 가운데 세상에 대항하여 더 힘든 투쟁을 해야만 하는 지는 중요하지가 않다. 모든 상황에서 항상 내면의 삶은 육체의 삶과 완전하게 분리되어 있다.

생각은 사람을 돌보는 영적 존재들에 의해 여러 방법으로 사람에게 전달이 된다. 이로써 생각을 파악하고 활용하는 데에 달려있다. 이 일은 사람의 삶의 형편과 그의 운명에 결코 의존되어 있지 않다. 왜냐하면 사람의 삶의 형편과 그의 운명은 창조주의 지혜로운 계획에 따라 모든 사람에게, 그들의 삶의 형편과 그의 운명이 가능한 한 가장 높은 완전에 도달하는 일을 보장하는 방식으로 할당이 되기 때문이다. 그러므로 완전한 성공을 하기 위해 이 땅의 삶을 단지 올바르게, 즉 하나님의 뜻에 따라 사용하기만 하면 된다. 그러므로 직업이나 운명이 깨달음의 길을 더 쉽게 찾을 수 있게 한다는 이의는 완전히 근거가 없는 이의이다. 항상 유일하게 사람이 자신의 내면의 삶에 주의를 기울여, 혼의 구원을 위해 스스로 활동하려는 의지가 결정적이다.
