Wrestling of the soul.... prayer.... free will.... matter....

The soul has to overcome unspeakable difficulties before it has become master of all matter. For it is in battle with matter until it consciously strives for help, and again, it will only do the latter when it has overcome its desire for earthly possessions, thus it has, as it were, already declared war on matter. But in order to be able to overcome it needs the support of helpful spiritual beings which it makes serviceable to itself through prayer. But it still has to struggle a lot and has to be restlessly active itself, for the soul can only mature through its own work, and the support of spiritual friends only consists of conveying the necessary strength to the struggling soul, but which it now has to utilize itself in realization of its earthly task. Thus a complete transformation is undoubtedly within every person's power once the will has decided to do so.... People sometimes believe that they cannot do anything themselves and only ever have to carry out God's will, and again it should be pointed out that the human being is not subject to any coercion from the divine creator in a spiritual respect, that instead all freedom of will is left to him if it concerns his soul's salvation. His thoughts will indeed be directed by the spiritual side towards spiritual problems, he will receive enlightenment in many questions, yet his will will be completely free to decide whether and to what extent the transmitted thoughts will be accepted and taken to heart. And likewise, the human being is free to gain the necessary strength through prayer in order to meet the most difficult demands. Consequently, the human soul undoubtedly has to fulfil a great task which consists of taking care of its transformation so that it will lift itself out of the darkness of spirit.... so that it will liberate itself from the fetters of matter, and this through love.... it must constantly be active to shape itself.... it must reject everything ignoble, it must strive for perfection and always be mindful of the fact that it only has a short time at its disposal which should serve its transformation.... it must also know that it is at the greatest disadvantage if the time on earth has not brought it maturity, and therefore only strive for one thing, to be constantly active to constantly wrestle and detach itself from everything that appears desirable to it in order to finally conquer matter and thereby free itself from every shackle which prevents it from ascending into light spheres....

혼의 투쟁. 기도. 자유의지. 물질.

혼이 모든 물질의 주인이 되기 전에 말할 수 없는 어려움을 극복해야만 한다. 물질과의 투쟁에서 혼이 의식적으로 도움을 구할 때까지 너무 오래 걸리고, 혼이 이 땅의 재물을 향한 욕망을 극복했을 때, 다시 말해 물질을 향한 전쟁을 선포했을 때, 비로소 혼은 물질에 대항하여 투쟁할 것이다. 그러나 물질을 극복하기 위해서는 도움을 주는 영의 존재의 지원이 필요하고, 기도를 통해 영의 존재의 지원을 받을 수 있다. 그러나 혼은 여전히 많은 투쟁을 해야 하고, 스스로 쉴 새 없이 일해야만 한다. 왜냐하면 단지 혼 자신이 일을 함으로 성숙해질 수 있기 때문이고, 영의 친구의 지원은 단지 고군분투하는 혼에게 필요한 힘을 주기 때문이다. 혼이 이제 이 땅의 과제를 깨닫는 가운데 이 힘을 활용해야만 한다. 따라서 의지가 한번 결단을 한다면, 혼은 의심할 여지 없게 사람 안의 변화를 일으키는 권세를 갖게 된다.

사람은 때때로 자신 스스로는 어떤 일도 할 수 없고, 항상 하나님의 뜻을 수행해야만 한다고 믿는다. 사람은 영적인 관계에서 창조주 하나님의 어떤 강요도 받지 않고, 혼의 구원에 관한 일이라면 그가 오히려 모든 자유를 가지고 있음을 그에게 알려줘야 한다. 그의 생각이 실제로 영적인 측면에서 영적인 문제로 향하도록 인도받을 것이고, 많은 질문이 그에게 명확해질 것이지만, 그의 의지가 전달된 생각을 심장으로 영접하고 주의를 기울일지와 정도를 그가 완전히 자유롭게 결정할 수 있게 될 것이다. 마찬가지로 사람은 가장 힘든 요구를 충족시키는 데 필요한 힘을 얻기 위해 자유롭게 기도할 수 있다.

그러므로 인간의 혼은 의심할 여지 없이 성취해야 할 큰 과제를 가지고 있다. 이 과제는 자신의 변화를 돌보고, 이로써 영의 어두움에서 스스로 벗어나는 일이다. 이로써 사랑을 통해 혼은 자신을 물질의 족쇄로부터 구원할 수 있다. 혼은 자신을 형성하기 위해 끊임없이 일해야만 한다. 혼은 모든 고귀하지 못한 것을 자신에게서 제거해야만 한다. 혼은 온전하게 되기 위해 노력해야만 한다. 혼은 항상 자신을 형성할 시간이 짧음을 기억해야만 한다. 혼은 또한 이 땅의 시간 동안 혼을 성숙하게 하지 못한다면, 자신을 가장 불리하게 만든다는 것을 알아야만 한다. 그러므로 혼은 끊임없이 일하고, 최종적으로 물질을 정복하고, 이로써 자신을 모든 속박으로부터 자유롭게 만들기 위해 끊임없이 투쟁하고, 자신에게 갈망할만하게 보이는 모든 것으로부터 자유롭게 되어야만 한다.
