Suppression of desires advantage for soul.... commandments.... renounce....
To act against divine will can never be of use to the soul, even though the body gains an advantage from it. And therefore the divine commandments will almost always be an obstacle to earthly well-being; they will always demand a certain renunciation or relinquishment from the human being and will therefore rarely be accepted where people try to enjoy life to the full. But indisputably a benefit is done to the soul where the commandments are fulfilled with physical pleasures being put on the back burner. The soul tries to dismiss everything that hinders it and feels unspeakably good in a free state, which, however, is not beneficial for the body during its time on earth, for all advantages of the soul only have a purely spiritual effect and therefore cannot be felt by the earthly body. And therefore the soul's life must be completely separated from the body's life of feeling. But the soul's repeated consideration of the body will to a certain extent harm it, for if the body's earthly desire is satisfied, matter will increase at the same time and therefore also the bondage in which the soul still languishes. And the human being should redeem himself from matter, he should avoid everything and withdraw it from the body in order to only become free from matter which has held him captive for thousands of years. Anyone who considers this will also be able to appreciate the danger which lies in the fulfilment of earthly desires.... He will use all his willpower in order to be able to resist the body's desire, and he will assist the soul in its adversity and help it to free itself from the bondage of matter. In every earthly situation the human being naturally seeks to exploit the greatest possible advantage for himself, he always first thinks of making his earthly existence bearable and does not see the danger which lies precisely in such endeavour. If he would think of his soul first and consider the possible consequences for it, it would certainly become much easier for him to forego many earthly advantages and be satisfied with the advancement of his soul. But if the human being pays little or no attention to all spiritual thoughts he will only ever be interested in making his earthly life as comfortable and carefree as possible and otherwise reject everything spiritual in the mistaken opinion that he is thereby relieved of all responsibility. That is why the busy work of the beings in the beyond is always aimed at clarifying the human being's actual destiny. Once this has become clear to the human being he will see an advantage for his soul in the suppression of his own desire, he will be more active for the very salvation of his soul, to the same extent he will also lose his desire for the world and for the sake of his soul he will also renounce where he lusts for the fulfilment of his desires....

Agir contre la Volonté divine ne peut jamais servir l'âme, même s’il en résulte un avantage pour le corps. Donc les Commandements divins seront toujours un obstacle au bien-vivre terrestre; ils exigeront de l'homme toujours un certain renoncement et donc ils trouveront rarement résonance là où l’homme cherche à savourer pleinement la vie. Mais pour l'âme c’est indubitablement un bénéfice lorsque les Commandements sont accomplis conjointement à l’affaiblissement des plaisirs corporels. L'âme cherche à s'enlever tout ce qui lui est un empêchement et se sent indiciblement bien à état libre, chose qui cependant n'est pas concédée au corps pendant le temps terrestre, parce que chaque avantage a un effet sur l'âme seulement d’une manière purement spirituelle et donc il n'est pas perceptible au corps terrestre. En conséquence la vie de l'âme doit être totalement séparée de la vie des sensations du corps. Mais chaque fois que le corps est pris en considération, cela est d’une certaine manière nuisible pour l'âme, parce que si le désir terrestre du corps est satisfait, la matière augmente en même temps et avec cela aussi les chaînes dans lesquelles l'âme languit encore. L'homme doit se détacher de la matière, il doit tout éviter et le soustraire au corps pour devenir libre de la matière qui l'a tenu prisonnier pendant des millénaires. Qui pense à cela, pourra aussi mesurer le danger qui se trouve dans la satisfaction des désirs terrestres. Il emploiera toute sa force de volonté pour pouvoir résister au désir du corps, et assistera l'âme dans sa misère et il l’aidera à se libérer des chaînes de la matière. L'homme cherche dans chaque situation de vie terrestre à l’exploiter à son plus grand avantage, il pense toujours et avant tout à se rendre supportable son existence terrestre et il ne voit pas le danger qui se trouve vraiment dans une telle tendance. S'il voulait penser d'abord à son âme et prendre en considération les conséquences éventuelles, alors il lui serait peut-être beaucoup plus facile renoncer à quelque avantage terrestre et se contenter de la promotion de son âme. Mais l'homme ne porte aucune ou peu de considération à toutes les pensées spirituelles, il cherche seulement l'intérêt de former sa vie terrestre de la manière la plus agréable et insouciante possible, et pour le reste il rejette tout ce qui est spirituel dans les opinions fausses, afin d'être avec cela suspendu de toute responsabilité. Donc le fervent travail des êtres dans l'au-delà est toujours de nouveau orienté vers l'éclaircissement de la vraie destination de l'homme. Si cela est entre temps devenu clair pour l'homme, il verra dans la suppression de ses avidités un avantage pour l'âme, il sera plus actif pour le salut de l'âme, et dans la même mesure il perdra aussi le désir pour le monde et à cause de son âme il renoncera là où il souhaite la satisfaction de ses désirs.
