Freedom of belief.... natural explanation.... joyful labour of the soul.... reject....

If your prayer is to remain unconstrained, unite yourself in spirit with your heavenly father and let the thoughts come to you, then every mechanical exercise will fall away and you will pray to God in your heart. The lord hears everything, every thought and every longing for Him, and words are therefore not necessary.... On the other hand, all truly good thinking and willing will be blessed.

This connection with the world beyond is the only way through which the lord can make Himself known in such a way that people retain their freedom of faith. An obvious proclamation from above would put them into a state in which they would be forced into a faith even against their will.... And such a directed faith, an acceptance of the doctrine of God through certain coercion, is without success for the soul. This is why God's messages must be conveyed to people in such a way that they are not forced to believe in any way.... The lord certainly has many means to make Himself heard, but as long as the human being has a purely natural explanation for it at the same time, he is completely free to decide to regard something as an act of nature or as God's openly expressed will and then to take a stand on the eternal deity. It is extremely difficult to restore faith to people who have dropped it after a brief examination and wrong judgement, and it takes unspeakable patience and perseverance to steer them again and again towards an area to which they are more hostile, and therefore it always remains a tremendous task to teach such apostate people the profound knowledge of God's love. On the one hand, extremely strong evidence is required, and on the other hand, this evidence must still be within the realms of possibility, because otherwise there could no longer be any talk of faith but the person would have to accept what is obviously presented to him....

The soul has a wide field of work.... without rest it must be active as it has to utilize earthly life appropriately.... With profound faith and clear realization it has to use all its strength to reach its goal. Yet if it loses time by neglecting its work on earth for lack of realization, it will have to struggle increasingly harder the later it has found it.... It will have too little time for its actual activity and only an extremely strong will will succeed in making up for what it has neglected and working on itself with increased vigour. So now the lord wants to come to the aid of those and give them hints, so that they easily accept faith and through this acquire means of help.... (interruption)

But again there are so many dangers which threaten such a soul if it unwillingly approaches the work which is only meant for its advancement. For it remains in a constant battle with evil forces as long as it does not strive joyfully upwards.... Only when the strong urge to always do only that which is pleasing to God can be felt in the heart will the influences of the evil powers become weaker and finally no longer be able to bother the earthly child at all, for then this power is broken by the heartfelt desire for light, which can only come from above. If the soul is aware of its weakness in its desire for God and sincerely asks for strength, then it will be carried upwards, as it were, by spiritual power.... A soul that asks will have everything at its disposal that is conducive to progress, and once it has realized its task, it will follow it joyfully and eagerly. However, the stronger desire can also apply to matter, and this is the decline or death of the soul.... and completely useless is the time on earth, where only the body comes to its supposed right, but the soul languishes and languishes. And then no thought will turn to the spiritual, rejection, mockery and contempt towards all spiritual subjects and complete emptiness of heart are the characteristics of such erring souls languishing in the shackles of matter. They do not recognize the lord's great goodness and are too far removed from the father of the space.... And if the divinity also works visibly, they prefer to close their eyes and remain in spiritual darkness.... All will see the signs of heaven, but they will only mean what they are supposed to mean to a few.... warning signals of greatest distress.... Those who heed them are not in danger of being completely engulfed by the devastating torrent of fire that is now to pour over humanity.... (interruption)

믿음의 자유.... 자연스러운 설명.... 혼의 즐거운 일.... 거절....

너의 기도가 구속을 받지 않는 가운데 머물려면, 너희 자신을 영으로 하늘의 아버지와 연결하고 생각이 너희에게 임하게 하라. 그러면 모든 기계적인 기도가 사라질 것이고, 너는 심장으로 하나님께 기도할 것이다. 주님은 자신을 향한 모든 것을, 모든 생각을, 모든 갈망을 듣는다. 그러므로 말이 필요하지 않고, 반면에 진정으로 모든 선한 생각과 의지는 축복을 받을 것이다.

저 세상과의 이러한 연결이 사람들이 믿음의 자유를 유지하게 하면서 주님이 자신을 드러낼 수 있는 유일한 가능성이다. 위에서 주는 명백한 계시는 그들의 의지와는 반대로 믿음을 강요할 수 있는 상태에 그들을 놓이게 할 것이다. 그러한 강요된 믿음은, 특정한 강요를 통해 하나님의 교리를 받아들이는 일은 혼을 위한 성공이 되지 못한다. 그렇기 때문에 하나님의 보내주는 것이 결코 이를 믿도록 강요하지 않는 방식으로 인간에게 전달이 되어야만 한다.

주님은 분명히 자신의 말을 들을 수 있게 하는 많은 수단을 가지고 있다. 그러나 인간이 동시에 그에 대해 순전히 자연스러운 설명을 가지고 있다면, 그는 이것을 자연의 일로 간주할 것인지 아니면, 하나님이 공개적으로 표현하는 의지로 간주할 것인지를 결정하고 영원한 거룩한 하나님에 대한 입장을 취할 것인지 완전히 자유롭다. 사람들이 이에 대한 간단한 시험을 하고 잘못된 판단을 한 후에 버리는 믿음을 다시 갖게 하는 일은 매우 어렵다.

그들이 더욱 적대시하는 영역으로 그들을 항상 다시 인도하는 일에 말할 수 없는 인내와 끈기가 필요하다. 그러므로 이런 거부하는 사람들이 하나님의 사랑에 대한 깊은 깨달음을 얻게 하는 일은 항상 엄청난 과제로 머문다. 한편으로는 매우 강력한 증거가 필요하고, 다른 한편으로는 이 증거가 여전히 가능한 범위 내에 있어야만 한다. 그렇지 않으면, 더 이상 믿음이라고 말할 수 없고, 오히려 그 사람이 자신에게 분명하게 제공된 것을 받아들여야만 하기 때문이다.

혼은 넓은 일할 분야를 가지고 있다. 혼이 이 땅의 삶을 목적에 합당하게 활용하기 위해서는 휴식없이 활동해야만 한다. 혼은 목표를 달성하기 위해 이미 깊은 믿음과 명확한 깨달음으로 모든 힘을 사용해야만 한다. 그러나 혼이 깨달음의 부족으로 이 땅에서 자신의 일을 소홀히 하면, 혼이 이를 늦게 발견하면 할수록, 혼은 항상 힘들게 씨름해야만 한다. 혼에게 자신이 실제 활동을 할 수 있는 시간이 너무 적게 남아 있다. 단지 아주 강한 의지만이 놓친 것을 보충하고, 증가된 힘으로 자신에 대한 작업을 하는 일에 성공할 수 있다.

그러므로 이제 주님은 그런 사람들을 도와, 그들에게 암시를 해준다. 이로써 그들이 쉽게 믿음을 받아들이고 이런 도움을 통해 믿음을 얻을 수 있게 한다. (1938년 9월 18일) 그러나 만약에 혼이 유일하게 자신을 지원하는 일을 원치 않게 행하는 경우, 이런 혼을 위협하는 많은 위험이 또 있다. 왜냐하면 혼이 기뻐하며 위를 향한 추구를 하지 않는 한, 계속하여 악한 세력과의 끊임없는 싸움에 머물기 때문이다.

항상 하나님을 기쁘게 하는 일만 하려는 강한 충동이 심장에 느껴질 때 비로소 악한 세력의 영향력이 약해질 것이고, 결국에 가서는 이 땅의 자녀를 괴롭힐 수 없게 될 것이다. 왜냐하면 유일하게 위로부터 올 수 있는 빛에 대한 긴밀한 갈망에 의해 악한 권세가 꺾이기 때문이다. 혼이 이제 하나님을 갈망하는 가운데 자신의 약점을 의식하고 힘을 간구하면, 혼은 영적인 힘에 의해 위로 들려 올라 간다.

구하는 혼에게 성장에 도움이 되는 모든 것이 주어질 것이다. 혼이 자신의 과제를 깨닫게 되면, 혼은 이 과제를 즐겁게 열정적으로 수행한다. 그러나 그럴지라도 더 강한 욕망이 물질로 향할 수 있다. 이 일은 혼의 쇠퇴 또는 죽음이고, 육체의 잘못된 요구는 충족이 되고, 혼이 굶주리고 고통을 받은 이 땅의 시간은 전혀 무의미하게 된다. 물질의 족쇄에 시달리는 오류에 빠진 혼들의 특징은 모든 영적 주제에 대해 전혀 생각하지 않고, 영적인 주제를 거부하고 조롱하고 경멸하고, 심장의 완전한 공허한 것이다.

그들은 주님의 큰 선하심을 깨닫지 못하고 만물의 아버지로부터 너무 멀리 떨어져 있다. 신성이 눈에 띄게 역사하면, 그들은 오히려 그들의 눈을 감고 계속하여 영적 어두움 속에 머문다. 모든 사람이 하늘의 징조를 보게 될 것이다. 그러나 소수에게만 징조가 말하고자 하는 가장 큰 위험에 대해 경고가 중요하다. 이에 주의를 기울이는 사람은 이제 인류를 덮칠 파괴적인 불길에 남김없이 삼킴을 당할 위험이 없다. (중단)
