Warning against arrogance and conceit....
Be careful of everything that can arouse the pride-devil in you. The demons persecute all those to whom the commandment of charity gives cause for activity in love.... they always try to counteract there by slightly trying to disfigure the motive.... that man in his action deviates from the actual task of helping, which is to be regarded as the principle for charity. A small part of self-conceit has the danger that from such an action is no longer pleasing to God, but that the influence of evil forces is visibly felt.... Wherever self-conceit is only a driving force in the least degree, the good work has little or no value. Therefore beware of pride above all, lest you suffer harm to your soul....

Warnung vor Hochmut und Eigendünkel....
Habet acht auf alles, was in euch den Hochmutsteufel wecken kann. Die Dämonen verfolgen alle, denen das Gebot der Nächstenliebe Anlaß gibt zur Betätigung in Liebe.... sie versuchen, immer dort entgegenzuwirken, indem sie leicht das Motiv zu verunstalten suchen.... daß der Mensch in seinem Handeln abweicht von der eigentlichen Aufgabe zu helfen, was als Grundsatz für die Nächstenliebe gelten soll. Es hat ein kleiner Teil Eigendünkel die Gefahr in sich, daß aus solcher heraus eine Handlung nicht mehr gottgefällig ist, sondern daß das Einwirken böser Mächte dabei sichtbar zu spüren ist.... Wo immer der Eigendünkel nur im geringsten Grade Triebkraft ist, hat das gute Werk keinen oder nur sehr wenig Wert. Darum hüte dich vor allem Hochmut, auf daß du nicht Schaden leidest an deiner Seele.... (Unterbrechung)
