6146 Will determines the measure of grace....

December 27, 1954: Book 66

It is not the measure of grace which determines the maturing of the soul but your will to utilize the graces. For no matter how abundant the blessings flow to you, if you are not willing to accept and utilize them they will be completely ineffective and your soul will not derive the slightest advantage from them. Thus your will determines the degree of maturity of your soul.... As you will it, such is the soul's lot after your death.... And your will is again influenced from two sides.... the world of light and also the dark world seek to win your will for themselves, and each holds before your eyes what it can offer you.... light and bliss in the spiritual kingdom and also earthly goods which are transient and therefore signify a dark sphere for the soul. And if you seriously thought about what you could achieve you would also be more careful before you decided. Everything that points you upwards is grace.... everything that is beneficial for your soul is grace.... but you determine whether grace becomes effective in you.... Again and again you humans are offered the opportunity to tread the path of ascent, and all these opportunities are blessings which God's great love bestows upon you.... And you can always achieve spiritual progress if you allow yourselves to be seized by grace, if you no longer offer any resistance.... then your soul will always desire more of what helps it to mature, and God's grace will flow towards it ever more abundantly.... But it is different with the unwilling souls who certainly need much help but remain unimpressed by divine gift of grace, who reject all help.... who always keep their eyes turned towards the world, attentively follow all lights there and don't feel the beneficent gentle light of divine grace. They receive the same amount of grace as the former, but they do not make use of it.... They leave it unnoticed and their soul remains in darkness, no strength is supplied to it which, however, every soul may receive abundantly if the human being's will allows it. That is why one can easily reach perfection while the other remains deep below.... although both had abundant graces at their disposal. They were used by one but left unnoticed by the other, and accordingly the soul also matures or it remains in the old state, in darkness. The will cannot be forced from God and thus also not by the luminous forces which take care of people on earth.... but nevertheless they try everything in their love to change the will so that it turns towards God, so that the human being gives up his resistance against God and now gratefully accepts from His hand what is a blessing for him.... Only the will needs to be good, then the ascent development is assured, then the human being is surrounded by so many good forces which seek to transfer their will to him, which is fully meant for God, and then the human being will accept every grace offered to him and utilize it according to divine will, and his soul will ascend and reach perfection....

Amen
