Een geestelijke ervaring is de vervulling van het verlangen

Pas in een geestelijke ervaring vindt de mens de meest volkomen bevrediging, want voordien was hij nooit volkomen bevredigd en het aardse leven kan hem wel vervulling van zijn aardse wensen brengen, toch zal hij niet gelukkig zijn en geen wensen meer hebben, want zijn ziel voelt dat de volledige vervulling van zijn aardse verlangens haar geen voordeel oplevert en haar verlangen betreft de vervulling van het geestelijke verlangen.

Maar zodra de mens zich met geestelijke gedachten bezighoudt, wordt het hartstochtelijke verlangen van de ziel gestild en pas nu is ze tevreden. Want ze wordt nu overeenkomstig haar verlangen bedacht. En aardse wensen treden naar de achtergrond. Ze kunnen de ziel niet meer bekoren, terwijl de honger naar een geestelijke ervaring voortdurend in haar toeneemt.

Elk geestelijk onderhoud maakt de mens gelukkig. Elke geestelijke opheldering maakt hem blij en daarom moet hij voortdurend rijpen, omdat zijn verlangen naar geestelijke goederen voortdurend toeneemt en hij overeenkomstig zijn verlangen geestelijke rijkdom ontvangt. Een mens, die eenmaal geestelijk voedsel geproefd heeft, zal nooit terugvallen en bezwijken voor de verleidingen van de wereld, want wat de wereld hem ook biedt, het kan de zegen van de geestelijke goederen niet evenaren. Nooit zal een aardse vreugde een vervanging kunnen zijn voor een geestelijke overdracht, zodra de mens eenmaal het inzicht heeft.

Bijgevolg moet het verlangen naar de wereld steeds minder worden. Er zal spoedig niets meer zijn, wat aantrekkingskracht uitoefent op een mens, wiens geest ontwaakt is en die nu in contact gekomen is met het geestelijke buiten zichzelf. Dit contact levert zijn ziel groot voordeel op en dit wordt door haar als weldadig ervaren. De ziel heeft zich nu bewust aangesloten bij de geest in haar en de geest leidt haar nu naar het juiste inzicht, wat voor de ziel weer van het grootste belang is, want dit is al de intrede in het geestelijke rijk, ofschoon de mens nog op aarde verblijft.

Als de ziel zich probeert vrij te maken van haar lichamelijke omhulsel, doordat haar gedachten zich buiten het aardse bevinden, dan heeft ze de materie al overwonnen. Ze schenkt geen aandacht aan wat met de aarde verbonden is en ze zoekt het rijk op, dat haar eigenlijke vaderland is. En pas daar vindt ze de ware vrede, ofschoon ze alleen maar kortstondig buiten de aarde verblijven kan, omdat het lichaam haar steeds weer terugtrekt, zolang het nog met haar verbonden is. Ze vervult dus nu haar aardse taak, maar doet dit meer als plicht en niet uit eigen verlangen.

Maar zodra ze de aardse taak heeft vervuld en zich vrij kan maken, trekt ze zich weer in het geestelijke rijk terug. Geestelijke waarheden zijn haar voeding en het wordt lichter in haar en haar kennis neemt toe, zodra ze gevoed wordt in het geestelijke rijk. En begrijpelijkerwijs moet nu ook de ziel rijpen, want ze heeft haar ware doel herkend. Ze heeft het aardse leven gebruikt voor de toenadering tot de geest in haar. Ze heeft al het aardse leren verachten en ze verlangt alleen nog maar naar het geestelijke rijk, want alleen daar vindt ze vervulling van haar vurige verlangens.

Spiritual experience fulfilment of longing....

Only in spiritual experience will the human being find complete satisfaction, for prior to this he will never be completely content, and earthly life can certainly fulfil his earthly wishes but he will nevertheless not be perfectly happy, for his soul senses that the unrestricted fulfilment of earthly desires will not benefit it and its longing is for the fulfilment of spiritual yearning. However, as soon as the human being occupies himself with spiritual thoughts the soul's longing will be satisfied, and only then will it be content. For it is now considered according to its desire. But earthly desires recede into the background, they can no longer stimulate the soul, while the hunger for spiritual experience is constantly growing within it. Every spiritual conversation makes the human being happy, every spiritual enlightenment delights him, and therefore he must constantly mature because his desire for spiritual good is always and constantly growing and he receives spiritual wealth according to his desire. A person who has once tasted spiritual food will never relapse and succumb to the temptations of the world, for whatever the world offers him will not come close to the blessing of spiritual good.... No earthly pleasure will ever be a substitute for spiritual mediation once a person has attained realization. Consequently, the desire for the world must therefore become less and less, soon there will be nothing left which exerts an attraction on a person whose spirit has awakened and has now made contact with the spiritual beyond. This contact will be of great benefit to his soul and it will feel it beneficially. The soul has now consciously joined the spirit in it, and the spirit now guides it into the right cognition, which again is of greatest importance for the soul, because this is already the entry into the spiritual kingdom, although man still dwells on earth. If the soul tries to free itself from its bodily shell by mentally dwelling outside of the earthly, it has already overcome matter, it disregards everything that is connected to earth and seeks out the kingdom which is its actual home. And only there it finds true peace, although it can only stay outside of earth temporarily because the body keeps drawing it back as long as it is still connected to it. Thus it now fulfils its earthly task but only does so out of duty and not out of its own desire. However, as soon as it has fulfilled its earthly task and can free itself, it is drawn back into the spiritual realm. Spiritual truths are its nourishment and it increases in light and realization as soon as it is nourished in the spiritual kingdom. And understandably the soul must now also mature, for it has recognized its true destiny, it has used earthly life to draw closer to the spirit within.... it has learned to despise everything earthly and only desires the spiritual kingdom, for only there will it find fulfilment of its longing....
