자기 사랑의 위험.... 하나님 사랑과 이웃 사랑....

어느 때이든지 너희가 전적으로 신뢰하며 하나님께 도움을 청하면, 너희에게 충만하게 공급해주는 위로들을 너희를 위해 주 하나님이 준비하고 있다. 주님 자신이 이처럼 모든 존재들을 영접하는 곳에서 너희는 날마다 그의 은혜를 체험한다. 너희가 단지 영원한 분을 추구하면, 영원한 분은 너희의 심장이 다른 곳을 보지 않고 자신에게 향하게 한다.

그러나 이미 아주 작은 크기의 자기 사랑이 주님이 너희에게 전해주는 큰 은혜의 능력을 약하게 만든다. 왜냐하면 그가 단지 자기 자신을 우선에 두면, 그에게 올바른 길을 가는 일이 또는 주님 곁에 머무는 일이 어려워지기 때문이다. 하나님을 사랑하고 이웃을 사랑하라는 계명은 모든 것을 포함하고 있는 가장 최고의 계명이기 때문이다.

너희가 먼저 이 계명을 성취시키려고 해야만 하지 않느냐? 그러면 너희는 너희 자신을 우선에 두어서는 안된다. 너희가 가진 모든 것은, 너희가 존재하는 것은 하나님께서 너희에게 준 것이다. 너희는 너희 이웃 사람들에게 똑같은 정도로 베풀어야 한다. 너희는 먼저 너희 자신을 생각하기 전에 너희 자신에게 가치가 있는 모든 것으로 이웃사람들을 도와줘야 한다.

이렇게 행함으로 이웃을 내 몸처럼 사랑해야 한다. 그러면 너희가 너희의 이웃에게 베푼 정도로 주님이 너희에게 베푸는 하나님의 은혜를 받는다. 너희는 이러한 최고의 의무를 다하려고 시도하라. 그러면 아버지를 향한 길이 너희에게 쉽게 되면서, 항상 하나님의 사랑의 빛의 영역에 거하는 가운데, 너희 자신을 영원을 위해 양육할 수 있으면서, 이 땅의 삶이 너희에게 비교할 수 없게 아름다운 것을 제공할 것이다.

올바르게 행하기 위해 능력을 구하는 짧은 기도가 너희에게 이 계명을 쉽게 성취할 수 있게 보이게 만들 것이다. 너희는 영적인 친구들과 활발한 생각의 교환을 통해 항상 하나님의 사랑과 지혜 안으로 깊이 들어갈 것이다. 너희는 이 땅의 모든 것을 영적인 눈으로 관찰해보는 법을 배울 것이다.

사랑의 계명이 너희 자신에게 너희 삶의 마지막까지 가장 활발하게 일하도록 자극해줄 것이다. 그러면 너희는 이 땅의 길을 무익하게 간 것이 아니고, 너희 혼이 성장하도록 도왔다. 너희가 너희의 이웃사람들에게 사랑으로 행한 일은 이미 풍성하게 응답을 받는다. 왜냐하면 너희가 이를 통해 온전한 상태에 도달했고, 하늘의 상급을 얻었기 때문이다. 아멘

Danger of self-love.... Love for God and neighbour....

In every time the Lord God has consolations ready for you, which He then gives you in full measure when you turn to Him in trust. Where the Lord Himself takes care of every being in this way, you experience his grace daily.... He directs your hearts steadfastly towards the Eternal when you strive only for this. But a tiny measure of self-love already weakens the great power of grace that the Lord conveys to you. For if one puts his own ego first, he will hardly enter the right way or remain on it. For love of God and of neighbor is the highest commandment that encompasses everything.... should you not first try to fulfill this commandment?....

But then you must not put yourself in the foreground.... All you have and are is given to you by God; and in the same measure you are to give back to your fellow men.... you are to consider them with all that you value yourself, before you think of yourself, and thus love your neighbor as yourself. In the same way, you also have a share in the divine grace to the same extent which the Lord attributes to you as you have equally attributed to your neighbor. Try yourselves in this highest duty; life on earth will then still offer you such incomparably beautiful things.... in that the way to the Father becomes easy for you and you, always standing in the circle of light of divine love, can form yourselves for eternity....

A short prayer for strength for all right actions will also make this commandment appear easily executable to you, and in a lively exchange of ideas with your spiritual friends, you will penetrate deeper and deeper into the love and wisdom of God, and you will learn to look at everything on earth with spiritual eyes.... The commandment of love will stimulate you to utmost activity until the end of your life, and then you have not uselessly walked the way on earth, but you have helped your soul to advance. What you have done to your neighbor in love, has already been richly rewarded to you in yourselves, so that through this you have reached a more perfect state and have earned the reward of heaven....
