Gli istinti degli stadi antecedenti determinanti per il carattere

La presente fase dell’esistenza umana è in qualche modo identica allo stato dello spirituale in ogni forma esteriore, e cioè l’essenziale ha sempre la lottare contro le resistenze, che sono presenti in lui ancora potentissimamente, in modo che l’uomo deve combattere nell’esistenza terrena contro gli istinti cattivi in lui. Ora sono sviluppati in modo particolarmente forte, più l’essenziale ha avuto l’occasione, di sfogarsi in uno stadio antecedente. Questi istinti degli stadi antecedenti ora imprimono all’essenziale il suo timbro, cioè ora l’uomo ha da combattere particolarmente vigoroso contro tali istinti, mentre quell’uomo, che ha eseguito dapprima volenterosamente il suo compito e di conseguenza si trova già in un certo stato di maturità, si rallegra di un cammino di vita più leggero. La volontà di servire rende l’essenziale relativamente libero, anche se è ancora racchiuso in un involucro. E questo essenziale ora senza resistenza vivrà in una forma, che porta già nell’esteriore il contrassegno della volontarietà dell’essere. Quindi la forma esteriore sarà sempre così che da ciò si possa già dedurre il grado di maturità dell’anima.

Nell’incorporazione come uomo ora si raggrupperanno sempre delle sostanze animiche, che hanno lo stesso modo d’essere; di conseguenza sarà ora anche la lotta sulla Terra, perché si sono riunite molte sostanze animiche ed influenzano l’essere precisamente nello stesso modo come nella forma precedente. Se l’essere impara più velocemente le manchevolezze, meno resistenza oppone e quindi può essere paziente, volenteroso e diligente già negli stadi antecedenti. Ma se conserva in sé un istinto, allora anche come uomo avrà da soffrire sotto lo stesso, e questo è determinante per il suo carattere.

Instincts of preliminary stages determine character....

The current stage of human existence is more or less the same as the state of the spiritual substance within every external form, namely the substance will always have to fight the oppositions which are most powerful within itself, therefore the human being has to fight against evil instincts within himself during his earthly existence. These are exceptionally well developed the more opportunity the spiritual essence has had to indulge itself during a preliminary stage. These instincts of the preliminary stages have left their mark on the spiritual essence, i.e. the human being has to fight particularly resolutely against such instincts.... while the human being who previously had completed his task willingly and consequently is already in a certain state of maturity will enjoy an easier life.

The will to serve liberates the substance correspondingly even while it is still surrounded by a form. And this now submissive substance will live in a form which outwardly also shows the being's willingness. Hence the soul's degree of maturity can be assessed by its external shape. In the embodiment as a human being only those substances of soul unite who share the same nature; but accordingly will also be the fight on earth because many substances of soul united and influence the being in much the same way as in the previous form. The sooner the being can learn to overcome the imperfections the less it will resist and can already become patient, willing and active during the preliminary stages .... However, if it holds on to an instinct within itself it will also have to suffer it as a human being and this determines his character....
