“En sus frutos los reconoceréis”. Inercia espiritual

“En sus frutos los reconoceréis”.

Estas palabras os deben servir de guía: que aquel que anda en el Señor es reconocible - también exteriormente; y de ello reconoceréis que las Promesas de la Palabra de Dios se cumplen fielmente con aquellos que viven conforme ella y que están activos en el amor. El peligro para el hombre consiste siempre en haber algunos que creen que ya corresponden a los Mandamientos del Señor si simplemente los escuchan, o si cumplen con los deberes impuestos por fuera.

Pero a estos aún hace falta que se ensimismen profundamente en la Doctrina de Cristo, porque el mero saber de la Palabra de Dios nunca podrá dar los frutos que el Señor ha prometido a aquellos que le aman y que procuran diligentemente corresponder a sus Mandamientos.

Ahí existe el peligro de que el hombre no se reconozca suficientemente bien a sí mismo, o que toda su conducta en inercia espiritual continúe sin producir fruto alguno. Un hombre que nunca actúa en el amor, ¿cómo puede él hablar del Mandamiento del amor al prójimo y pretender que lo comprende? ¿Cómo puede ser posible que un hombre se incline con humildad ante el Señor, si nunca ha procurado poner esta humildad en práctica en sí mismo - tal como está enseñada... un hombre que presume ante sus semejantes, y aun así acoge la Palabra de Dios sobre la humildad y, con gusto, la respalda ante los demás?

A los hombres les cuesta mucho echar una mano a la obra de su propia modificación en un hombre nuevo y conforme a la Voluntad de Dios. Les cuesta mucho separarse de los viejos trastos y ponerse una ropa nueva; y, aun así, con los labios aprueban todo lo que la Palabra de Dios les enseña... Y si la Palabra de Dios no puede contribuir para ennoblecer al hombre de manera que los frutos de sus aspiraciones estén evidentes, entonces tampoco las Promesas de Dios se cumplirán en él. Pues, recibe las Palabras como si fueran huecas, y huecas estas se extinguen.

Si no comienzan esfuerzos serios para hacer caso a los Mandamientos de Dios, entonces tampoco habrá Bendición. Por supuesto, que hacen falta abnegación, esfuerzo y una firme voluntad... pero el fruto de éstos es un éxito espiritual incuestionable. Y un hombre cuyas aspiraciones están bendecidas por estos frutos, también podrá actuar con mucha influencia ante sus semejantes. Porque únicamente si uno mismo actúa en el amor, también lo puede enseñar... el que vive en la humildad también puede predicarla a los demás... el que es pacífico y apacible, también puede señalar a los demás la bendición de todo esto... Y su ejemplo siempre resultará animador para los hombres.

A tal siervo de Dios –reconocible por sus frutos– se procurará seguirle...

Pero todo esto quiere ser logrado por una firme voluntad y un gran amor al Señor. Por eso, rogad por la fuerza necesaria para querer y amar por todo corazón, para que el Señor os atienda y os bendiga.

'By their fruits you shall know them....'

By their fruits you will recognize them.... This word must serve you as a signpost that the one who walks in the Lord is immediately outwardly recognizable, and from this you will see how the promises of the word of God are faithfully fulfilled in those who also live according to it and are active in love. The danger for man is always the fact that some people believe that they are fulfilling the commandments of the Lord by simply listening to them or by fulfilling the required duties outwardly.... But they lack the intimate entering into the teaching of Christ, and a knowledge of the Word of God alone can never produce the fruits that the Lord promises to those who love Him and eagerly strive to fulfill His commandments.

So the danger exists that man does not recognize himself properly or that his whole way of life remains in spiritual inertia without fruitful success. How can a person who never practices love himself speak of the commandment to love one's neighbor and also want to understand it.... How will a person in humility be able to bow before the Lord, who never tried to put this humility, as it is taught, to work on himself.... who exalts himself over his fellow men, but with it takes up the Word of God and expresses himself pleasingly to others....

It is so difficult for people to get their hands on the work of their own transformation into a new human being formed entirely according to God's will.... They find it so hard to part with the old and put on a new garment, and yet they approve with their lips everything that the Word of God teaches them.... And if the Word of God does not contribute to ennobling man in such a way that the fruits of his efforts are recognizable...., the promises of the Word of God will also not be able to be fulfilled in these. Empty the words are accepted and empty the words will fade away again.... The blessing will not come unless a serious effort is made to fulfill the commandments of God.

It certainly requires self denial, firm will and overcoming.... but the fruits of it are unmistakable spiritual success.... And the one whose striving is blessed by these fruits will also be able to have an unspeakable influence on his fellow man.... For only he who himself practices love can teach love.... he who himself lives in humility can preach this virtue to others, he who himself is gentle and peace-loving can point out to others the blessings of it, and his example will always have an encouraging effect on people and would someone strive to follow such a servant of God, recognizable by the fruits, all this will be achieved through firm will and great love for the Lord.... Therefore ask for the strength to will and to love with all your heart, that the Lord may hear you and bless you.
