Spiritual progress through self-denial....

Achieving a considerable advancement in your spiritual growth also demands a considerable amount of self-denial, a strong will and firm faith. You will hardly make progress if you don't eagerly strive for it, if you conduct yourselves indifferently when you actually should fight, be it against your own cravings or against everything that obstructs your soul's maturing, you must always bear the goal in mind in order to spur yourselves into constant struggling and striving, you must not deceive yourselves by estimating yourselves higher than your maturity of soul permits, you must be severely critical of yourselves, since only when you have recognised your faults and weaknesses will you tackle them. This requires a strong will, but it will always be strengthened through calling upon Jesus Christ, for this reason you also need to have a strong faith at your disposal. You can achieve anything with His help, including great spiritual progress, rising above yourselves and constant increase of your strength of love, which then will also accomplish whatever you strive for. Yet you will not take a single step forward without struggle, without loving activity and without prayer.... For loving activity and prayer guarantee your union with God and thus an already large advancement upwards, because coming closer to God is the goal you are intended to reach, so that every battle will subsequently become easier and always result in victory. What you yourselves cannot possibly achieve becomes possible through loving activity and prayer.... And therefore you will always have these two fail-safe means if you are serious about achieving spiritual progress, you need only muster the will to turn to God in prayer and attain His love through loving activity.... In that case you will not go short, then you can be certain of success and only your depth of faith determines how long it will take to reach your goal.... And you need only appeal to Jesus Christ to strengthen your faith and will, you need only avail yourselves of the blessings of His act of Salvation, which will remedy every weakness and also promise success. For He gives strength to all those who call upon Him because they believe in Him....

Il progresso spirituale soltanto mediante auto superamento

Per fare un enorme progresso nello sviluppo spirituale richiede anche un enorme auto superamento, una forte volontà ed una vigorosa fede. Difficilmente progredirete, se non vi tendete seriamente, se vi comportate con indifferenza, quando si tratta di impegnarsi lottando, sia contro le vostre proprie brame oppure contro tutto ciò che vi è d’ostacolo per la vostra maturazione dell’anima. Dovete sempre tenervi la meta davanti agli occhi, per spronarvi da voi stessi alla lotta e tendere continuo. Non dovete lasciarvi andare ad auto inganni, che vi stimate troppo di come corrisponde alla maturità della vostra anima. Dovete esercitare su voi stessi un’aspra critica, perché soltanto quando avete riconosciuto i vostri errori e debolezze, li affrontate anche. E questo richiede una forte volontà, che però riceve sempre fortificazione attraverso l’invocazione di Gesù Cristo, per cui dovete però anche disporre di una forte fede in Lui. Voi potete raggiungere tutto con il Suo Aiuto, così anche un alto progresso spirituale, un superamento di voi stessi, ed un costante accrescere della vostra forza d’amore, che riesce anche a compiere tutto ciò a cui tende. Ma non riuscite a progredire d’un passo senza lotta, senza attività d’amore e senza preghiera. Perché soltanto l’agire d’amore e la preghiera vi assicurano l’unificazione con Dio. Vi assicurano un ulteriore salto in Alto, perché l’avvicinamento a Dio è la meta che voi dovete raggiungere. E questa meta davanti agli occhi vi fortifica, affinché poi ogni lotta vi sarà più facile e vi porterà certamente anche la vittoria. Quello che voi quindi non riuscite da voi stessi, diventa possibile tramite l’agire d’amore e la preghiera. Allora avete sempre questi due mezzi che agiscono con sicurezza, quando ci tenete davvero seriamente a raggiungere un progresso spirituale. Dovete soltanto avere la volontà di rivolgervi a Dio nella preghiera, e tramite l’agire d’amore conquistarvi il Suo AmoreE. Allora nulla vi può mancare, allora voi stessi siete sicuri del successo, e solo la profondità della vostra fede decide la lunghezza del tempo, nella quale voi raggiungete la vostra meta. E che la vostra volontà venga rafforzata, lo dovete soltanto richiedere a Gesù Cristo, dovete soltanto servirvi delle Grazie della Sua Opera di Redenzione, che eliminano ogni debolezza e vi promettono il successo. Perché Egli dà a tutti coloro che Lo invocano, la Forza, perché credono in Lui.
