Body, soul and spirit.... Explanation....

People cannot understand the relationship between body, soul and spirit, which makes it difficult to explain to them the working of the spirit. The spirit is in opposition to the body, whereas the soul finds itself between both, thus it effectively has to side with either the body or the spirit but it can never pay attention to both. In the beginning of embodiment as a human being the soul is totally attached to the body. Hence it endeavours to fulfil the body's every desire, that is to say thought, feeling and will.... the human soul.... are wholly focussed on the body which, still consisting of matter itself, also seeks to unite with matter. Thus the person will long for material possessions because they epitomise the body's satisfaction. Therefore the spirit will not come into its own, the soul ignores the spirit's demands, the spirit cannot find acceptance because the body is still stronger and completely occupies the soul, thus dominating its thoughts and aspirations. However, the soul can also recognise the worthlessness of earthly things, it can consider its bodily wishes to be unimportant, it can demand more of earthly life than mere material goods.... then the spirit comes into its own.... Then it will express itself and be listened to by the soul. The soul will start to move in a different direction, it will no longer ask for the body but strive for spiritual values. It will accept being taught, that is, it shall willingly accept what the spirit conveys. Indeed, it will feel happy and pay consistently less attention to the body, or it will try to incline the body to do what the spirit demands of the soul.... to renounce earthly matter in exchange for spiritual knowledge. Now the spirit will be victorious over the body. Both spirit and body try to win the soul for themselves. And as soon as the spirit has succeeded in displacing the desires of the body, it is the stronger....

But what is meant by spirit?.... The spirit is the Divine in the human being; it is that which identifies the human being as God's living creation, the spirit is the bond which connects the human being to the eternal Father-Spirit. It is the human being's realisation that he will always be in contact with the Father of eternity. The human being only recognises himself as God's living creation when the spirit becomes active, until then he will merely be conscious of himself as a living being who wants whatever life has to offer. But once the human being recognises himself, the world will no longer mean anything to him. Then he will search for higher values, then his thoughts will be directed towards the spiritual kingdom, then he will try to make contact with the One Who gave him life, then his thoughts will be right and his wishes and actions in accordance with divine will. Then the spirit of God will be working within the person. The soul subsequently will give itself to the spirit to be guided and taught so that body, soul and spirit unite at last and seek unity with God, because the human being's spirit constantly strives towards the Father-Spirit to Whom he is, and remains, inseparably joined for eternity....

몸과 혼과 영. 이에 대한 설명.

사람들은 육체와 혼과 영이 서로 어떤 관계에 있는지 이해할 수 없다. 그러므로 사람들에게 영의 역사를 설명하기가 어렵다. 영은 육체와 반대이다. 반면에 혼은 둘 사이에서 거하기 때문에 어떤 면에서 육체나 영을 결정해야만 하고, 절대로 양쪽으로 향할 수 없다. 인간으로 육신을 입은 초기의 혼은 몸에 전적으로 헌신한다. 그러므로 혼은 단지 몸의 모든 소원을 충족시키려고 한다. 즉 인간의 혼이 생각하고 느끼고 뜻하는 것이 단지 몸의 요구를 따르고, 아직 물질인 몸과 연합하려고 시도한다.

그러므로 인간이 물질적 재물을 향한 갈망을 갖게 될 것이다. 왜냐면 물질이 육체를 편안하게 하는 전형적인 것이기 때문이다. 그러므로 영은 거의 인정을 받지 못하고, 혼은 영이 혼에게 요구하는 것을 듣지 않고, 영은 자신을 관철 수 없게 된다. 왜냐면 육체가 아직 우세하고, 육체가 혼을 완전히 점유하고 있기 때문이다. 즉 육체가 혼의 감각과 갈망을 지배하고 있다. 그러나 혼은 또한 세상적인 것의 무가치함을 깨달을 수 있고, 육체의 욕망을 중요하지 않은 것으로 여길 수 있다. 혼은 이 땅의 삶에서 물질적인 재물보다 더 많은 것을 요구할 수 있다. 그러면 영이 권리를 얻게 되고, 영이 이제 자신을 혼에게 표현하고, 혼이 영에게 귀를 기울이게 된다.

혼은 다른 방향을 취하기 시작하고, 육체를 위한 요구를 더 이상 하지 않고 영적 재물을 위해 추구하게 된다. 혼은 자신을 가르치도록 허용한다. 다시 말해 혼은 영이 혼에게 전해주는 것을 저항하지 않고 받아들이고, 실제 행복하게 느끼고 항상 더 적게 육체에 주의를 기울인다. 또는 혼이 영이 혼에게 영적인 재물과 교환하기 위해 이 땅의 물질을 포기하라고 요구하는 것에 육체가 관심을 갖게 하려고 시도한다. 영이 이제 육신을 이기고, 영과 육체가 혼을 자신들을 위해 얻으려고 한다. 영이 육체의 욕망을 억누르는 일에 성공하면, 영이 승리자가 된다. 그러면 영은 무엇을 의미하느냐?

영은 사람 안의 신적인 것이고, 사람을 하나님의 피조물로 특징짓게 한다. 영은 사람을 영원한 아버지의 영과 연결시키는 끈이다. 영은 사람이 자신 안에서 영원한 아버지와 영원히 연결되는 있다는 의식을 갖게 한다. 영이 역사하면, 사람이 비로소 자신을 하나님의 피조물로 깨닫는다. 그전에는 그는 단지 자신에게 생명을 제공하는 모든 것을 얻기를 원하는 생물체로 의식한다.

그러나 사람이 자신을 깨닫는다면, 그에게 세상은 더 이상 아무 것도 아니고, 그는 더 높은 재물을 구한다. 그러면 그의 생각은 영의 나라로 향하고, 자신에게 생명을 준 분과 접촉하려고 시도한다. 그러면 그의 생각이 올바르게 되고, 그의 의지와 행동이 하나님의 뜻에 합당하게 된다. 그러면 하나님의 영이 사람 안에서 역사하고, 혼이 이제 자신을 하나님께 맡겨, 하나님이 자신을 인도하고 가르치게 한다. 이로써 육체와 혼과 영이 하나가 되어, 하나님과 연합하려고 애쓴다. 왜냐면 사람 안의 영은 끊임없이 자신과 떨어질 수 없게 연합이 되었고, 모든 영원에 영원까지 연합이 되어 머물게 될 아버지의 영에게 다가가도록 재촉하기 때문이다.
