Hardness of the faith struggle....

During the last battle of faith there will be great confusion amongst people who do not have a living faith, who have only accepted a formal faith out of tradition and did not let it come alive through love and by using their intellect so that their faith would become a convinced one. Events will overtake each other and make many waver in their faith because they lack knowledge due to a lack of loving activity. For this results in wisdom, thus also recognition and knowledge of God's eternal plan of salvation, which underlies all events. People make too little use of the gifts of understanding by neglecting to think about teachings of faith which have been imparted to them from outside. And such doctrines of faith have not yet become mental property, they have not been seriously tested for their truthfulness and therefore cannot be convincingly defended either, rather, the human being will be severely shaken and himself will be in danger of throwing away his faith and that through his own fault. God has given the human being the gift of intellect so that he may use it, so that he may think through everything of spiritual good offered to him by his fellow human beings. Doctrines of faith which are accepted uncritically without having taken a stand on them themselves are not spiritual goods of their own, and they will not withstand the strong shaking of the mind which the coming battle of faith will bring. Then people will be seriously confronted with questions which they will have to answer for themselves and the world and whose answers will strongly contradict the teachings of faith and, since their faith is a dead one, they will drop it without hesitation. Even those who appear believing before the world do not stand firm, for they themselves lack conviction, being without any deeper knowledge, without insight. At a time when decision is demanded, spiritual poverty becomes particularly apparent.... For even those will fail who thought they were steadfast in the face of the threats from the world. For in this time only one thing gives strength.... the word guided to earth by God Himself, which flows to people from the intimate connection with Him as a result of living faith.... For this word gives people full knowledge and such convinced faith that they will stand firmly by God and not allow themselves to waver even in the face of the worst threats. And this word must be heard if the still dead faith is to become a convinced, living faith.... It is the source of strength from which the weak can strengthen themselves, from which they can constantly draw knowledge which gives them bright light and lets their faith grow to such strength that they will never ever give it up for the sake of earthly goods, that they resist the world's desire and faithfully persevere in their love for God, Whom they confess before all the world. The time of battle will be short but hard, yet no-one will remain without the strength to resist who hears the pure word of God and accepts it, for it will earn him the strength of faith which helps to overcome everything, and God Himself will be with him....

믿음의 싸움의 가혹함.

마지막 믿음의 싸움이 일어나는 동안에 사람들 가운데 큰 혼란이 만연하게 될 것이다. 이런 사람들은 생명력이 있는 믿음이 없고, 단지 전통적으로 받아드린 형식적인 믿음을 가지고, 사랑과 그들의 이성을 활용하여, 믿음이 그들 안에서 확신 있게 되도록, 생명력이 있는 믿음이 되게 하지 않은 사람들이다. 사건들이 일어나고 믿음이 흔들리게 만들 것이다. 왜냐면 사랑을 부족하게 행함으로 그들에게 깨달음이 없기 때문이다. 왜냐면 사랑을 행하는 일이 지혜를 주고, 그러므로 또한 일어나는 모든 일의 기초가 되는 하나님의 영원한 구원 계획에 대한 깨달음과 지식을 주기 때문이다.

사람들은 외부로부터 그들에게 전달된 믿음의 가르침에 대해 생각해보는 일을 하지 않으면서 선물로 받은 이성을 너무 적게 사용한다. 이런 믿음의 가르침은 아직 자신의 생각의 재산이 되지 않았고, 가르침의 진실성에 대해 심각하게 점검해보지 않았고, 그러므로 확신을 가지고 대변할 수 없게 될 것이고, 오히려 사람이 크게 흔들리게 될 것이고, 자신의 잘못으로 스스로 믿음을 버릴 위험에 처한다. 하나님은 사람들에게 이성을 선물로 주었고, 이성을 활용할 수 있게 했다. 이로써 사람은 이웃 사람을 통해 영적인 내용으로 자신에게 제공된 모든 것에 대해 생각해볼 수 있다.

비판해보지 않고, 스스로 자신의 입장을 취하지 않고 받아드린 믿음의 가르침은 자기 자신의 영적인 재산이 아니고, 다가 오는 믿음의 싸움이 가져올 강하게 생각을 흔들리게 하는 일에 대항하지 못할 것이다. 그러면 사람들은 자신에게 그리고 세상에 대답해야만 하는 진지한 질문들을 받게 될 것이고, 질문들에 대한 대답이 믿음의 가르침과 강하게 모순이 된다. 그들의 믿음은 죽었기 때문에 그들은 주저 없이 믿음을 버릴 것이고, 세상 앞에서 믿는 것처럼 보이는 사람들조차도 지키지 못할 것이다. 왜냐면 그들 자신에게 확신이 없기 때문이다. 왜냐면 그들에게 더 깊은 지식이 없고, 깨달음이 없기 때문이다.

결정을 요구받는 때에 영적인 빈곤이 아주 특별하게 나타나게 된다. 왜냐면 세상의 위협 앞에 자신이 굳게 선 것으로 여기는 사람들조차도 실패할 것이기 때문이다. 왜냐면 이 때에는 하나님 자신이 이 땅으로 전해준 말씀 단 한가지가 전적인 깨달음을 주기 때문이다. 말씀은 생명력 있는 믿음의 결과로 하나님과 긴밀한 관계를 맺은 사람들에게 전달된다. 왜냐면 말씀이 사람들에게 온전한 지식과 확신을 주는 믿음을 주어, 그들이 하나님 곁에 굳게 서고, 최악의 위협에 흔들리지 않게 만들기 때문이다. 아직 죽은 믿음이 확신을 가진 생명력이 있는 믿음이 되려면, 말씀을 영접해야만 한다.

말씀은 약해지는 사람들이 자신을 강하게 만들 수 있는 힘의 원천이고, 말씀으로부터 그들은 그들에게 밝은 빛을 주는 지식을 지속적으로 얻을 수 있고, 그들의 믿음이 세상을 위해 절대로 포기하지 않을 정도로 성장할 수 있게 하고, 세상의 욕망에 저항하고 그들이 모든 세상 앞에서 고백하는 하나님을 향한 사랑에 신실하게 머물게 한다. 싸움의 시간은 짧은 기간이지만 힘들고, 하나님의 순수한 말씀을 듣고 받아들이는 사람은 어느 누구도 저항할 힘이 없게 되지 않을 것이다. 왜냐면 말씀이 그에게 모든 것을 극복하도록 돕는 믿음의 힘을 얻게 할 것이고, 하나님 자신이 그와 함께할 것이기 때문이다.
