Living conditions according to the maturity of the soul.... knowledge of the being beforehand....

The grace of embodiment as a human being is only granted to the being when it is willing to take this final path, i.e. when its will decides to do so. As soon as the being has travelled the path of development in all previous embodiments it has thereby reached the degree of maturity which is the condition for the last embodiment as a human being, which is indeed also different and therefore also requires different living conditions in the last stage. And the beingness.... of the soul created through the union of different substances.... is presented with the life on earth, which it has to live through for the purpose of final liberation, and it is still up to it whether it wants to take the path on earth or not. Fully aware of its earthly task it now takes earthly life upon itself, ready to conquer all resistance in this state and to free itself from the form. It is also aware of the fate it has to endure, but beforehand it only sees the external conditions of life, not its spiritual development, and feels completely strong enough to master life on earth. According to its state of maturity, which could be reached in the most varied gradations before, but always allows an embodiment as a human being, earth life is now granted to it, and more or less sorrowful and full of renunciation. For the soul has to be offered the final opportunities to mature in such a way that it can shape itself into a being of light in this short earthly life if it utilizes it. But its living conditions will always be such that it has the opportunity for active love activity, and its maturing will depend on how far it fills its life with love work. In all living conditions it is offered the opportunity to do so; the human being can also be willing to help and be of service if he lacks knowledge, who therefore knows nothing of the effect of his way of life in eternity. The soul only needs to decide in favour of good or evil on earth, and it can do so in every situation in life, even in the most primitive circumstances. The earthly circumstances, however, are conditioned by its development in the preliminary stages. If the being has previously been exceptionally instinctive, it has to fight against its instincts in earthly life and needs appropriate living conditions in which the soul can purify itself.

The soul is in no way disadvantaged in its possibilities of higher development, although it appears that earthly conditions are a hindrance to it. The obstacles which earthly life offers to every individual person have to be overcome, and some souls need greater obstacles, and therefore the external living conditions are allocated to them in such a way that they serve them. God knows about the shaping of every soul during its embodiment as a human being, He also knows about its strength of will, and His love tries to make the course of development easy for every soul. If the soul endeavours to make use of every opportunity, then the destiny destined for it will also be easily bearable for the human being and God will shorten its path through life as soon as it endeavours to mature spiritually. God's love brings people together in such a way that they can serve each other, that one can instruct the other, that one can give to the other what the latter lacks, and thus spiritual gifts are also offered to every person, albeit in the most varied form and to the most varied extent. Yet what is offered will always suffice to show him the right path he should take, and his willingness alone is decisive as to what advantages his soul will derive from it. The knowledge about God is likewise made accessible to all people.... if not from person to person then the spiritual beings are active and give him mental instructions, and it is always up to him to accept spiritual gifts or not, i.e. to believe or reject what is conveyed to him mentally or through people. And since God has given every human being intellect and free will, he is also responsible for how he utilizes both. All good will is recognized by God and help is granted to him accordingly. This help has already become his before through endless times, and the beingness also knows before its embodiment that the power and love of God assists it.... However, life on earth has to be lived without any recollection in order not to jeopardize the human being's free will. Yet no soul embodies itself without knowing about its earthly course, and with full will it takes this last embodiment upon itself in the desire to finally become free from every external form....

Levensomstandigheden overeenkomstig de graad van rijpheid van de ziel en voorkennis daarvan

De genade van de belichaming als mens wordt het wezen pas dan verleend, wanneer het bereid is deze laatste weg te gaan, dat wil zeggen: wanneer zijn wil daartoe besluit. Zodra het wezenlijke de gang van de ontwikkeling heeft afgelegd in alle voorafgaande belichamingen, heeft het daardoor de graad van rijpheid bereikt die voorwaarde is voor de laatste belichaming als mens. Deze is echter ook verschillend en daarom zijn in het laatste stadium ook verschillende levensomstandigheden vereist. En het wezenlijke - de door aaneensluiting van verschillende substanties geschapen ziel - wordt het aardse bestaan voor de geest gesteld dat ze moet doormaken met het doel definitief vrij te worden. En haar is nog steeds de vrije keuze overgelaten of ze de weg op aarde wil gaan of niet. Helemaal bewust van haar taak op aarde, neemt ze nu het aardse bestaan op zich, bereid in deze toestand elke weerstand te overwinnen en zich te bevrijden uit de vorm. Ze is ook op de hoogte van het lot dat ze heeft te verduren, maar ze ziet tevoren alleen de uiterlijke levensomstandigheden, niet haar geestelijke ontwikkelingsgang, en voelt zich ten volle sterk genoeg om het aardse leven de baas te worden. In overeenstemming met haar toestand van rijpheid die in de meest verschillende schakeringen tevoren kon worden bereikt, maar steeds een belichaming als mens toelaat, is haar nu het aardse bestaan beschoren. En dit bestaan is meer of minder droevig en zich onthechtend. Want de ziel moet de laatste mogelijkheden om geheel rijp te worden zo worden aangeboden, dat ze zich in dit korte aardse bestaan kan vormen tot lichtwezen wanneer ze het benut. Maar steeds zullen haar levensomstandigheden zo zijn, dat ze gelegenheid heeft om actief te zijn in liefdewerk. En haar geheel rijp worden zal ervan afhankelijk zijn in hoeverre ze haar leven vult met werkzaam te zijn in liefde. In alle levensomstandigheden is haar daar gelegenheid voor geboden. Ook de mens bij wie het aan weten ontbreekt, die dus niets weet over het gevolg van zijn levenswandel in de eeuwigheid, kan hulpvaardig en dienstwillig zijn. De ziel hoeft alleen maar te kiezen voor goed of kwaad op aarde en dat kan ze in elke levenssituatie, ook in de meest primitieve omstandigheden. Maar de aardse omstandigheden zijn bepaald door haar ontwikkeling in de voorstadia. Is het wezen tevoren buitengewoon impulsief geweest, dan moet het in het aardse bestaan tegen zijn aandriften strijden en heeft het daarvoor overeenstemmende levensomstandigheden nodig waarin de ziel zich kan ontdoen van deze aanklevingen. De ziel is op geen enkele manier benadeeld in haar mogelijkheden zich positief te ontwikkelen, ofschoon het de schijn heeft dat de aardse toestanden hinderlijk voor haar zijn. De tegenwerkingen die het aardse bestaan voor iedere afzonderlijke mens oplevert, moeten overwonnen worden. En vele zielen hebben grotere tegenwerkingen nodig en daarom zijn de uiterlijke levensomstandigheden hun zo toebedeeld, zoals ze voor hen van nut zijn. God is op de hoogte van de ontwikkeling van iedere ziel bij haar belichaming als mens. Hij kent ook de sterkte van haar wil en Zijn liefde probeert voor iedere ziel de ontwikkelingsgang gemakkelijk te maken. Spant de ziel zich in om elke mogelijkheid te benutten, dan zal voor de mens het hem voorbestemde lot ook gemakkelijk te dragen zijn. En God zal zijn levensweg verkorten, zodra hij zich beijvert geestelijk te rijpen. Gods liefde brengt de mensen zo samen, dat ze elkaar kunnen dienen. Dat de een de ander kan onderwijzen, dat de een de ander kan geven wat deze ontbreekt. En zo wordt iedere mens ook geestelijke gaven aangeboden, al is het ook in de meest verschillende vorm en mate. Maar steeds zal dat wat aangeboden wordt voldoende zijn om hem de juiste weg te tonen die hij moet gaan. En alleen zijn bereidwilligheid is doorslaggevend welke voordelen zijn ziel daaruit haalt. Het weten dat er een God bestaat wordt eveneens alle mensen aannemelijk gemaakt. En is het niet van mens tot mens, dan zijn de geestelijke wezens werkzaam en geven hem door middel van gedachten aanwijzingen. En steeds is het aan hem overgelaten, geestelijke gaven aan te nemen of niet, dat wil zeggen: dat wat hem als gedachte of door mensen wordt overgebracht, te geloven of af te wijzen. En daar God iedere mens verstand en een vrije wil heeft gegeven, is hij er ook verantwoordelijk voor hoe hij beide benut. Elke goede wil wordt door God herkend en daaraan beantwoordend wordt hem hulp verleend. Deze hulp is hem tevoren al ten deel gevallen door eindeloze tijden heen. En het wezenlijke weet ook alvorens de belichaming, dat de kracht en liefde van God hem bijstaat.

Maar het aardse bestaan moet worden afgelegd zonder enige herinnering daaraan, om de vrije wil van de mens niet in gevaar te brengen. Doch geen ziel wordt belichaamd zonder op de hoogte te zijn van haar weg over de aarde. En met intense wil neemt ze deze laatste belichaming op zich, in het verlangen, definitief vrij te worden van elke uiterlijke vorm.
