Earthly environment, skills and knowledge irrelevant to the maturing of the soul....

The environment in which the soul lives through its embodiment on earth is irrelevant to its higher development. It is also completely irrelevant which earthly abilities the human being possesses and on which level he stands in earthly knowledge. A person can have the highest earthly merits, he can be well versed in all earthly fields and abilities, he can also have a high degree of knowledge, and yet he can be significantly lower spiritually than a person who does not have all these merits in earthly life and is spiritually very highly developed; indeed, spiritual maturity is often far more recognizable where all earthly merits are eliminated, for these people are more inward and more connected to God because they are not affected in their soul's work by any external influences. It sometimes seems as if a well-formed soul can only dwell in a well-formed body, as if truth can only be where wisdom is taught or received, and as if the degree of knowledge depends on a person's more or less highly developed intellectual thinking, and yet precisely these apparent advantages can be an obstacle which calls the human being's maturing into question.... A person whose thinking is otherwise sharp and logical can make the greatest errors in spiritual matters, but error will never lead to spiritual progress. Only a life of love brings such progress, and therefore a person does not need to have any worldly recognized advantages and can still stand on a very high spiritual level because love is inherent in him, but only love truly elevates a person. The will to serve God can be just as strongly developed in a person who is earthly quite small and lowly, for precisely this will attracts God as eternal love, but this first helps the person or his soul to spiritual maturity, and thus a well-formed soul can develop far more easily in a person who does not divide his attention between spiritual and earthly experiences. He has it a little easier, so to speak, because the temptations from outside do not assail him in such a way, whereas the man of the world who has extraordinary abilities but does not use them for the salvation of his soul can lag far behind that soul....

L’ambiente terreno, le facoltà ed il sapere sono insignificanti per la maturazione dell’anima

E’ senza significato per lo sviluppo verso l’Alto dell’anima, in quale ambiente vive questa la sua incorporazione sulla Terra. E’ anche del tutto insignificante, quali facoltà terrene l’uomo possiede e su quale gradino si trova nel sapere terreno. L’uomo può mostrare i massimi vantaggi terreni, può essere istruito su tutti i cambi terreni e facoltà, può anche stare in un alto grado del sapere, e ciononostante spiritualmente può essere molto più inferiore che un uomo, che nella vita terrena non possiede tutti questi vantaggi ed è spiritualmente molto sviluppato; anzi la maturità spirituale è molto più riconoscibile, dove tutti i vantaggi terreni sono esclusi, perché questi uomini sono molto più interiorizzati e più legati con Dio, perché nel loro lavoro sull’anima non sono limitati attraverso certe influenze esteriori. A volte ha l’apparenza, come se un’anima ben formata potesse dimorare soltanto in un corpo ben formato, come se la Verità potesse esser soltanto là, dove viene insegnata o ricevuta la sapienza, e come se il grado del sapere dipendesse dal pensare d’intelletto più o meno sviluppato dell’uomo, e proprio questi vantaggi apparenti possono essere un ostacolo, che mettono in discussione la maturazione dell’uomo. L’uomo, il cui pensare è altrimenti acuto e logico, può sostenere proprio nella relazione spirituale il più grande errore, ma l’errore non aiuterà mai al progresso spirituale. Solo la vita nell’amore apporta questo, e perciò l’uomo non ha bisogno di avere per nulla dei vantaggi riconosciuti mondanamente e può stare comunque su un gradino spirituale molto alto, perché in lui dimora l’amore, e solo questo eleva veramente l’uomo. La volontà di servire Dio, può essere sviluppata pure in un uomo che terrenamente è molto piccolo ed inferiore, perché proprio questa volontà attira Dio come l’Eterno Amore, ma questo aiuta prima l’uomo o la sua anima alla maturità spirituale, e quindi un’anima ben formata può svilupparsi molto prima in un uomo, che non divide la sua attenzione tra vicissitudine spirituale e terrena. A lui è per così dire più facile, perché gli attacchi dall’esterno non irrompono così su di lui, mentre l’uomo del mondo che dispone di straordinarie facoltà ma queste però non le usa per la salvezza della sua anima, può stare molto più indietro di quell’altra anima.
