Immortality of the soul....

The construction of a human being always requires the same components: body, soul and spirit. The body.... the external form.... performs the functions which are determined by the soul. Consequently the body is just the agent through which the soul's will is accomplished. At the moment of death the soul no longer needs an agent for service as it did on earth.... i.e. in the visible work of creation.... because it changes its environment and moves into regions where nothing externally visible needs to be done. The body, which was just the instrument for the earthly path during which the soul should have formed itself into the carrier of the divine spirit, becomes unnecessary.

The spirit, the third component of the living being, lies in fact dormant in every human being and only becomes active when the will of the soul pays more attention to the spirit than to the body, that is, when the soul considers the earthly demands less important than the demands of the spirit, which always amounts to earthly needs becoming secondary. Although body, soul and spirit belong together they nevertheless can have separate goals. The soul can direct its will more towards the demands of the body, but it can also disregard those and make its will available to the spirit within itself. And it is precisely this direction of will that decides its life in the beyond, i.e. the state the soul finds itself in after the earthly life, which can be blissful or distressing. The earthly life, the function of the body, is therefore just a temporary condition for the soul. The soul impels the body to all actions on earth but it has by no means ceased to exist when the body cannot perform its function any longer. The soul has indeed left the body because it moves into regions where it no longer requires an exterior form.

But to consider the soul dead as well would be a completely wrong concept of its essence.... because the soul is something that cannot pass away. Indeed, when the human body is dead the soul can no longer determine it's functions; it can, due to a lack of maturity because it had not given enough consideration to the spirit within itself, also fall into a state of inactivity; but it can never 'cease to exist'. Because the soul is something spiritual that is everlasting, while the body consists of earthly substance, of matter, and is therefore subject to constant change and finally disintegrates into its components as soon as the soul has left the body....

La inmortalidad del alma

La estructura de un ser humano siempre requiere los mismos componentes: cuerpo, alma y espíritu. El cuerpo –la envoltura exterior– ejecuta las funciones que el alma determina. Por eso el cuerpo no es sino el órgano mediante el cual se realiza la voluntad del alma. Con la muerte del cuerpo el alma ya no necesita un órgano que le sirve como en la Tierra –dentro de la Obra de Creación visible–, porque cambia su paradero pues pasa a regiones donde no hace falta hacer algo exteriormente visible.

Allí el cuerpo resulta superfluo, pues no fue sino el medio para el paso por la Tierra donde el alma debía desarrollarse para hacerse portadora del Espíritu divino. El Espíritu –la tercera parte del ser humano– dormita en cada hombre, pero sólo entra en acción cuando la voluntad del alma le presta más atención que al cuerpo; es decir, cuando el alma no toma tan en serio las exigencias terrenales como las que le pone el espíritu - las que siempre desfavorecen a los deseos terrenales.

Aunque cuerpo, alma y espíritu formen una unidad, pueden perseguir objetivos diferentes. El Alma puede dedicar su voluntad más a las necesidades del cuerpo, pero también las puede ignorar y poner su voluntad completamente a la disposición del espíritu al que lleva dentro de sí... y precisamente esta orientación de la voluntad es la que determina su Vida en el Más Allá; es decir, el estado en el cual el alma se encuentra después de la vida terrenal, que le puede acarrear felicidad o desgracias.

De modo que la vida terrenal –la función del cuerpo– sólo es un estado pasajero en el que se encuentra el alma. Es el alma que en este mundo estimula al cuerpo a sus actividades, pero cuando el cuerpo ya no puede cumplir su función, de ninguna manera se debe considerarla como apagada... Aun así consta que el alma ha abandonado al cuerpo porque se ha trasladado a otras regiones donde la envoltura exterior ya no hace falta. Pero considerar el alma como también acabada sería un concepto totalmente erróneo de su ser, dado que el alma es algo que no puede perecer.

Por la muerte corporal del hombre el alma, por supuesto, ya no le puede mandar a ejercer sus funciones. Y a causa de una madurez insuficiente –cuando no ha prestado suficiente atención al espíritu en ella– puede caer en un estado de pasividad, pero nunca puede ser una “no-existencia”. Pues el alma es algo espiritual, algo inmortal, mientras el cuerpo está formado de materia terrena, por lo que está expuesto a un cambio continuo; pero finalmente, nada más que el alma haya abandonado el cuerpo, este se desintegrará en sus componentes primarios.
