The narrow and the wide way....

Choose the path that leads you towards your eternal home. It is admittedly narrow and arduous and you will have to muster all your strength in order not to slip onto the wide path, which certainly offers pleasures and comforts but leads you towards a different goal. And even if the path is narrow and full of hardship, a companion is always at your side Who gives you strength, supports you and guides you safely through all the dangers of life if only you call upon Him and desire His help. The wide, practicable path constantly offers comforts and relief of all kinds, and therefore it is travelled by those who want to avoid hardship and plagues and make their earthly life pleasant. But this path will never lead to the heights. The man who walks on the broad path will always and constantly cling to the earth and be in the greatest danger of ending up in the depths. The pleasures of life will occupy his whole mind, his thoughts and feelings will become shallow and he will find favour in the most earthly worthless trinkets, he will indulge in the desires of the body and be devoted to vices with all his senses. And such a way of life can never lead upwards, but must end in ruin. All the strength that God gives to man to preserve his life is wasted on completely useless endeavours, the soul envelops itself in an ever denser shell instead of dissolving it and freeing itself from the chains that bind it to earth. And this can only mean decline for the human soul but not lead to higher development, whereas the narrow path certainly leads upwards, albeit over thorns or seemingly insurmountable undergrowth. For at the end of the path the soul regocnizes the one Who is its fulfilment.... He sends His light towards it so that it does not walk in darkness but regocnizes all dangers and knows how to avoid them. He gives her strength and fortification through His figure of light, He stretches out His hands to the struggling one and supports him when he threatens to sink down. But at the end of the path the soul awaits the well-deserved rest, and this is unimaginably marvellous, that no effort and adversity of the path was too great compared to that glory, while the wanderer has already enjoyed his joys and recreations on the broad earthly path and comes away empty-handed when he has reached the goal. For he has striven for a different goal, he has never thought of the end of the path but has snatched all comforts from earthly life and now has to live in extreme hardship, for the renunciations, which are now his lot, affect him far more painfully as he greedily remembers his earthly life and can no longer fulfil his vices and desires. For he has not utilized earthly life for the good of his soul, he has not been able to overcome himself to make small sacrifices but has enjoyed it to the full. And the fulfilment of earthly life means agonizing renunciations in the afterlife, which cannot be ended arbitrarily....

La voie étroite et la voie large

Choisissez la voie qui vous mène dans l'éternelle Patrie. Elle est certes étroite et fatigante, et vous devez employer toute votre force pour ne pas glisser sur la large qui offrent certes des joies et des plaisirs, mais vous guide à la rencontre d’un autre but. Et même si la voie est étroite et riche de renoncements, vous avez de toute façon toujours à votre coté un Accompagnateur qui vous donnent la Force, Il vous soutient et Il vous mène au-delà de chaque danger de la vie, si seulement vous L’invoquez et désirez Son Aide. La voie large bien praticable offre continuellement des plaisirs et des facilités de toutes sortes, et donc elle est empruntée par ceux qui veulent éviter les fatigues et les peines et qui veulent se rendre agréable la vie terrestre. Mais cette voie ne mènera jamais en haut. L'homme qui parcourt la voie large sera toujours et constamment attaché à la Terre et sera dans le plus grand danger de finir dans l'abîme. Les joies de la vie occupent toutes ses pensées, sa pensée et son sentiment s’affadissent, et il trouve plaisir dans le plus grand bric-à-brac terrestre sans valeur, il s’abandonne aux plaisirs du corps et s’adonne aux vices avec tous ses sens. Et un tel chemin de vie ne peut jamais mener en haut, mais il doit finir dans la ruine. Toute la force que Dieu donne à l'homme pour la conservation de sa vie est gâchée en initiatives totalement inutiles, l'âme s'enveloppe avec des enveloppes toujours plus épaisses, au lieu de les dissoudre et de se libérer des chaînes qui la lient à la Terre. Et cela peut signifier seulement une rétrogradation pour l'âme humaine, mais ne mène pas au développement vers le Haut, tandis que la voie étroite mène sûrement en haut, même si c’est sur des épines ou des buissons apparemment infranchissables. Parce qu'à la fin l'âme reconnaît Celui qui est son ravissement. Il envoie à sa rencontre Sa Lumière pour qu'elle ne marche pas dans l'obscurité, mais reconnaisse tous les dangers et sache les éviter. Il lui donne la Force et la fortification à travers Sa Figure de Lumière, Il étend Ses Mains à la rencontre de celle qui lutte et Il la soutient si elle menace de tomber. Mais à la fin de la voie un repos bien mérité attend l'âme, et celui-ci est si magnifique qu’elle ne peut pas l’imaginer ; parce qu'aucune fatigue et adversité aussi grande soit-elle ne peut se comparer à cette Magnificence, alors que le pèlerin sur la voie terrestre large a déjà profité de son sort et de ses joies et se trouve avec les mains vides lorsqu’il arrive au but. Parce qu'il aspirait à un autre but, il n'a jamais pensé à la fin de la voie, mais il a exploité tous les plaisirs de la vie terrestre, et maintenant il doit languir dans la misère la plus extrême, parce que les renoncements qui maintenant sont son sort, le touchent d’une manière beaucoup plus douloureuse, vu qu’il pense à sa vie pleine d'avidité et il ne peut plus satisfaire ses vices et ses désirs. Parce qu'il n'a pas employé la vie terrestre pour le bien de son âme, il n'a pas su se vaincre et prendre sur lui de petits sacrifices, mais il a joui pleinement de la vie. Et la satisfaction de la vie terrestre signifie d’atroces renoncements dans l'au-delà, qui ne peuvent pas être terminés arbitrairement.
