The narrow and the wide way....

Choose the path that leads you towards your eternal home. It is admittedly narrow and arduous and you will have to muster all your strength in order not to slip onto the wide path, which certainly offers pleasures and comforts but leads you towards a different goal. And even if the path is narrow and full of hardship, a companion is always at your side Who gives you strength, supports you and guides you safely through all the dangers of life if only you call upon Him and desire His help. The wide, practicable path constantly offers comforts and relief of all kinds, and therefore it is travelled by those who want to avoid hardship and plagues and make their earthly life pleasant. But this path will never lead to the heights. The man who walks on the broad path will always and constantly cling to the earth and be in the greatest danger of ending up in the depths. The pleasures of life will occupy his whole mind, his thoughts and feelings will become shallow and he will find favour in the most earthly worthless trinkets, he will indulge in the desires of the body and be devoted to vices with all his senses. And such a way of life can never lead upwards, but must end in ruin. All the strength that God gives to man to preserve his life is wasted on completely useless endeavours, the soul envelops itself in an ever denser shell instead of dissolving it and freeing itself from the chains that bind it to earth. And this can only mean decline for the human soul but not lead to higher development, whereas the narrow path certainly leads upwards, albeit over thorns or seemingly insurmountable undergrowth. For at the end of the path the soul regocnizes the one Who is its fulfilment.... He sends His light towards it so that it does not walk in darkness but regocnizes all dangers and knows how to avoid them. He gives her strength and fortification through His figure of light, He stretches out His hands to the struggling one and supports him when he threatens to sink down. But at the end of the path the soul awaits the well-deserved rest, and this is unimaginably marvellous, that no effort and adversity of the path was too great compared to that glory, while the wanderer has already enjoyed his joys and recreations on the broad earthly path and comes away empty-handed when he has reached the goal. For he has striven for a different goal, he has never thought of the end of the path but has snatched all comforts from earthly life and now has to live in extreme hardship, for the renunciations, which are now his lot, affect him far more painfully as he greedily remembers his earthly life and can no longer fulfil his vices and desires. For he has not utilized earthly life for the good of his soul, he has not been able to overcome himself to make small sacrifices but has enjoyed it to the full. And the fulfilment of earthly life means agonizing renunciations in the afterlife, which cannot be ended arbitrarily....

El camino estrecho y el ancho....

Elegid el camino que os lleva hacia vuestra patria eterna. Es ciertamente estrecho y arduo, y tenéis que emplear todas vuestras fuerzas para no desviaros al camino ancho, que ciertamente ofrece alegrías y consuelos, pero os conduce a una meta diferente. Y aunque el camino sea estrecho y lleno de dificultades, todavía tenéis un compañero que está siempre a vuestro lado, Que os da fuerza, os apoya y os guía con seguridad a través de todos los peligros de la vida, si tan sólo lo invocáis y deseáis Su ayuda.

El camino ancho y viable ofrece constantemente comodidades y alivios de todo tipo y, por lo tanto, lo toman aquellos que evitan los problemas y esfuerzos y quieren hacerse la vida placentera la vida en la Tierra. Pero este camino nunca llevará a las alturas. El ser humano que camina por el camino ancho estará siempre y constantemente apegado a la Tierra y correrá el gran peligro de terminar en lo más profundo. Las alegrías de la vida ocupan todos sus pensamientos, sus pensamientos y sentimientos se vuelven superficiales, y se complace en las baratijas más terrenales y sin valor, se entrega a los deseos del cuerpo y se entrega a los vicios con todos sus sentidos. Y tal forma de vida nunca puede llevar a las alturas, sino que tiene que terminar en la ruina.

Toda la fuerza que Dios da al ser humano para preservar su vida se malgasta en comienzos completamente inútiles; el alma se cubre con una cubierta cada vez más densa en lugar de disolverla y liberarse de los grilletes que la encadenan en la Tierra. Y esto sólo puede significar decadencia para el alma humana, pero no puede llevar a un desarrollo superior, mientras que el camino estrecho lleva ciertamente a las alturas, aunque sea sobre espinas o arbustos que parecen insuperables. Porque al final del camino el alma reconoce a Aquel, Que es su realización....

Él le envía Su luz para que no camine en la oscuridad, sino que reconoce todos los peligros y sabe cómo evitarlos.... Él la da fuerza y fortalecimiento a través de Su figura luminosa, extiende Sus manos a luchador y lo sostiene si amenaza con hundirse. Pero al final del camino el alma espera el merecido descanso, y éste es inimaginablemente maravilloso, de modo que ningún esfuerzo o adversidad del camino fue demasiado grande comparado con la gloria, mientras el caminante en el ancho camino terrenal ya ha disfrutado de su alegrías y descansos en el camino, y se marcha con las manos vacías, una vez que ha llegado a su destino.

Porque se ha esforzado por otro objetivo y nunca se ha recordado del camino, sino que extrajo todas las comodidades de la vida terrenal, y ahora se muere de hambre en extrema angustia, porque las renuncias que ahora son su suerte le afectan mucha más dolorosamente, porque recuerda su vida terrenal lleno de avaricia y ya no puede cumplir con sus vicios y deseos. Porque no ha utilizado su vida terrenal para el bienestar de su alma, no ha podido superarse para hacer pequeños sacrificios, sino que disfruto la vida al máximo. Y el cumplimiento de la vida terrenal significa renuncias dolorosas en el más allá, a las que no se puede poner fin arbitrariamente....
