Resilience.... weakening of the will of the adversary....

The constant battle with the adversary strengthens the power of resistance, insofar as resistance is offered to his temptations at all. He is always more eagerly at work to force the soul down, but all attempts fail because of the human being's right will. And this right will is the will turned towards God, which is the best weapon against all assaults by the enemy. The will turned towards God also paralyses the power of the adversary and he therefore tries to divert the will in another way towards his lures. He knows the weaknesses of mankind, he also knows how to utilize them in such a way that the temptations have a weakening effect on man and all power of resistance must be mustered in order to be able to master them. Yet those temptations are only a danger if they stifle the desire for God, but if this is predominant all attempts by the adversary will fail. For then God stands by the one who desires Him and helps him to free himself from the force that wants to bind him. And in such hours of temptation it is particularly important to take refuge in prayer, that is, to confess to the lord that the longing is for Him and that all earthly pleasures are willingly surrendered out of love for Him. This battle is certainly a difficult one, which the human being has to wage against his own feelings, but God knows why He sends such trials to His own, He knows the degree of love for Himself and now wants to strengthen it by making Himself more difficult to reach and thus stimulating the human being's will to increased activity. Man then proves his love for God, he proves that it stands up to earthly love. Man will rarely be able to free himself completely from the feeling of inner abandonment if divine help is not close to him. He will have to go through severe inner conflicts as long as there is still earthly desire in him. And he can only overcome this by utilizing divine strength and requesting it in prayer, but then he will victoriously overcome everything, he will turn ever more exclusively to God and strive for union with Him, for love always urges for union. This is the divine feeling which should be inherent in all beings so that only the right union.... the union with the good, should always be striven for. God stands by the earthly child struggling with itself and guides its thoughts correctly, and when these thoughts find each other again in heartfelt prayer to Him, all danger is overcome.... the cunning of the adversary has failed.... love for God has won the victory....

Widerstandskraft.... Schwächen des Willens des Widersachers....

Der ständige Kampf mit dem Gegner stärkt die Widerstandskraft, sofern überhaupt Widerstand den Anfechtungen dessen geboten wird. Immer eifriger ist er am Werk, die Seele niederzuzwingen, doch am rechten Willen des Menschen scheitern alle Versuche. Und dieser rechte Wille ist der Gott zugewandte Wille, der die beste Waffe ist gegen alle Übergriffe des Feindes. Der Gott zugewendete Wille lähmt auch die Macht des Gegners, und er sucht deshalb, in anderer Weise den Willen umzulenken seinen Lockmitteln entgegen. Er kennt die Schwächen der Menschheit, er weiß sie auch so auszunützen, daß die Versuchungen schwächend wirken auf den Menschen und alle Widerstandskraft aufgeboten werden muß, um ihrer Herr werden zu können. Doch es sind jene Verlockungen nur dann eine Gefahr, wenn sie das Gottverlangen ersticken, doch so dieses vorherrschend ist, schlagen alle Versuche des Gegners fehl. Denn dann steht Gott dem nach Ihm Verlangenden bei und hilft ihm, sich frei zu machen von der sie (ihn = d. Hg.) binden wollenden Gewalt. Und es ist in solchen Stunden der Versuchung ganz besonders wichtig, seine Zuflucht zum Gebet zu nehmen, also dem Herrn zu bekennen, daß Ihm das Sehnen gilt und daß alle irdischen Freuden willig hingegeben werden aus Liebe zu Ihm. Es ist dieser Kampf wohl schwer, den der Mensch führen soll gegen sein eigenes Empfinden, doch Gott weiß, wozu Er solche Prüfungen den Seinen schickt, er weiß den Grad der Liebe zu Sich und will nun diesen stärken, indem Er Sich schwerer erreichbar macht und also den Willen des Menschen zu erhöhter Tätigkeit anregt. Es beweiset dann der Mensch seine Liebe zu Gott, er beweiset, daß sie standhält irdischer Liebe gegenüber. Es wird selten der Mensch sich gänzlich frei machen können von dem Gefühl innerer Verlassenheit, so ihm nicht göttliche Hilfe nahe ist. Er wird schwere innere Konflikte durchzumachen haben, solange noch irdisches Verlangen in ihm ist. Und dies kann er nur überwinden mit Inanspruchnahme göttlicher Kraft und solche im Gebet anfordern, dann aber wird er alles siegreich überwinden, er wird sich immer ausschließlicher Gott zuwenden und den Zusammenschluß mit Ihm erstreben, denn immer drängt die Liebe nach Vereinigung. Es ist dies das göttliche Gefühl, das allen Wesen innewohnen soll, auf daß nur immer die rechte Vereinigung.... die Vereinigung mit dem Guten, angestrebt werden soll. Gott steht dem mit-sich-selbst ringenden Erdenkind bei und leitet seine Gedanken recht, und so sich diese Gedanken wieder finden in innigem Gebet zu Ihm, ist alle Gefahr überwunden.... es ist die List des Widersachers mißlungen.... es hat die Liebe zu Gott den Sieg davongetragen....
