Cult.... communities.... ?

Without external coercion no church can be formed whose only endeavour is to gain recognition before people. For where this intention is the basic idea, the simple endeavour to serve God will have little effect, for this will make no impression on fellow human beings, whereas everything that is outwardly recognizable is effective towards fellow human beings and is therefore regarded as solely valuable and successful. However, the more a person focusses on outward appearances, the more he submits to the demands of those who want to be leaders and have made it their task to recruit followers for their cult.... for their outward worship. It is incomprehensible, but unfortunately too often the case, that external worship is something that people do not want to do without; they need certain actions that put them in an elevated state in the first place, and they are difficult to convince that it is precisely this cult that prevents them from being truly connected to God.... They cling to it with tenacity, and in the end they only serve the cult and not the eternal deity. They need outward confirmation that they belong to a church.... They form a tight circle and erect a wall to the outside world, for they only regard their fellow human being as their equal if he submits to the same external forms and conforms to the rules that apply in their circle. And this is of the greatest disadvantage to the human soul. External service is of no value to it; the human being can comply with every regulation decreed by people, but this will not benefit his soul's maturity in the slightest, for a certain compulsion underlies every fulfilment. Something is first demanded of people that makes the path to God more difficult.... Human commandments are fulfilled first, but God is not sought enough. And therefore a circle whose togetherness is outwardly recognizable will always fail to reach its goal.... It will take him a long time before the essence of the deity becomes comprehensible to him, for he will always be anxious to stand out in public. He will not seek contact with those who remain distant from their congregation but will keep away from them or always emphasize his efforts to the outside world. For he seeks to assert himself and show off to those who do not agree with him. He who believes himself to be in the centre of knowledge must also be in the midst of his fellow human beings, he must not want to limit his knowledge through the close association of individuals and separate himself, i.e. want to establish a community that only embraces those who share the same knowledge. Rather, he must willingly pass on what he believes he possesses, he must seek to enlarge this community, but quietly and without ostentation, without external forms and without compulsion.... he must only serve.... but only to his fellow man, to regard non-symbolic acts as valuable and ultimately to regard these acts as emblems of belonging to that community. Everything on the outside is only a shell, but the core should be desired, people should unite to serve God and their neighbour.... then they will also be in the right knowledge and have a beneficial effect, even if no outwardly recognizable bond ties them together. They only need to be of the same spirit, regocnize themselves and their unworthiness, seek to ennoble their nature and help their fellow human beings to the best of their ability. Then it is truly a church that serves the lord and lives and acts according to His will....

우상예배. 공동체?

사람들 앞에서 자신이 인정받는 일이 단지 유일한 추구하는 일인 공동체를 외부의 강요 없이는 이룰 수 없다. 이런 의도가 근본적인 생각인 곳에서는 하나님을 섬기려는 단순하고 추구가 적게 인정을 받게 될 것이다. 왜냐하면 이런 일은 이웃 사람에게 인상을 주지 않고 머물러 있을 것이기 때문이다. 반면에 외부에서 알아볼 수 있는 모든 일은 이웃사람들에게 효과가 크고, 그러므로 유일하게 가치가 충만한 것으로, 성공적인 것으로 간주된다. 사람이 외적인 것을 더 많이 드러낼수록, 지도자가 되고 싶어하고, 외적인 그들의 의식과 그들의 예배의 추종자를 찾는 일을 자신의 과제로 삼은 사람들의 요구에 더 많이 복종한다.

물론 이런 일은 이해할 수 없는 일이지만 불행하게도 사람들에게 외적인 의식이 어떤 의미가 있고, 이를 놓치기를 원하지 않는 경우가 너무 자주 발생한다. 그들은 먼저 그들을 높은 상태로 만드는 특정한 의식이 필요하다. 그들이 바로 이런 예배가 하나님과 올바르게 연합이 되는 일에 방해가 된다는 확신을 갖게 하는 일은 어렵다. 그들은 끈기를 가지고 의식을 고수하고, 결국에는 과장된 예배를 위해 섬기지만 영원한 신성을 섬기는 것이 아니다. 그들은 그들이 교회에 속해 있다는 외부의 확인이 필요하다. 그들은 긴밀한 모임을 이루고, 외부를 향해서는 벽을 세운다. 왜냐하면 그들은 단지 이웃사람이 같은 외적인 의식에 복종하고, 그들의 모임에서 인정을 받는 규정을 따를 때, 이웃사람을 자신과 같은 사람으로 생각하기 때문이다.

이런 일은 인간의 혼에 가장 큰 해를 끼친다. 외적으로 섬기는 일은 혼에게 아무런 가치가 없다. 사람은 사람이 내린 모든 규정을 따를 수 있다. 이런 일은 그의 혼의 성장에 최소한이라도 도움이 되지 않을 것이다. 왜냐하면 모든 성취가 어떤 강요에 기초를 두고 있기 때문이다. 사람들에게 하나님께 가는 길을 더 어렵게 만드는 무엇인가를 먼저 요구할 것이고, 먼저 인간의 계명을 성취시킬 것이다. 그러나 하나님은 적게 찾을 것이다.

따라서 외부에서 소속을 깨달을 수 있는 모임은 항상 올바른 목표를 달성하지 못할 것이다. 그가 하나님의 본질을 이해하는 데 오랜 시간이 걸릴 것이다. 왜냐하면 그는 항상 공개석상에서 자신을 들어내려는 생각을 하게 될 것이기 때문이다. 그는 그들의 모임과는 멀리에 있는 사람들과 연결을 구하지 않을 것이고, 그들을 멀리하거나, 자기의 노력을 항상 외부에 강조할 것이다. 왜냐하면 그는 인정을 받으려고 하고, 그와 함께 하지 않는 사람들에게 자신을 과시하려고 하기 때문이다.

자신이 깨달음 가운데 있다고 믿는 사람은 이웃 사람들 한가운데 있어야만 한다. 그는 몇몇 사람과의 긴밀한 관계를 갖고 자신의 깨달음에 제한을 가하고, 자신을 고립시키는 일을 원하지 않아야 하고, 동일한 깨달음을 가진 사람들만 포함하는 모임을 시작하기를 원해서는 안 된다. 그는 오히려 자신이 가지고 있다고 믿는 것을 자원하여 전달해야만 한다. 그는 공동체를 확장하기 위해 노력해야만 한다. 그럴지라도 조용하게, 웅장하지 않게, 외적인 형식과 강요가 없이 해야 한다. 그는 단지 섬겨야만 한다. 그러나 단지 이웃 사람들을 섬겨야만 하고, 상징적 행위를 가치 있는 것으로 간주하지 말아야만 한다. 궁극적으로 이런 행위를 해당 공동체에 속한 상징으로 간주해야 한다.

모든 외적인 일은 단지 겉형체이고 핵심을 갈망해야 한다. 사람들은 하나가 되어 하나님과 이웃을 섬겨야 한다. 그러면 그들은 비록 외적으로 볼 수 있는 유대가 그들을 하나로 묶지 않더라도, 깨달음에 서게 될 것이고, 축복되게 역사할 것이다. 그들은 단지 같은 영을 가져야만 하고, 자신과 그들의 무가치함을 깨달아야만 하고, 그들의 성품을 고귀하게 만들려고 해야만 하고, 가능한 한 최선을 다해 이웃 사람들을 도와야만 한다. 그러면 이런 공동체는 진실로 주님을 섬기고 주님의 뜻에 따라 살고 행하는 교회이다.
