Materialists.... transience of earthly possessions....

Nothing in earthly life is more of a hindrance to climbing upwards than the continued attempt to increase earthly goods. Man spends so much energy in vain, which he should only devote to the one goal of increasing spiritual wealth. The more he only strives for earthly wealth, the less he can concern himself with the further development of his soul and the further away he is from the thought of what will become of him after his death.... He does not allow himself to be deterred by such brief thoughts and immediately turns his attention solely to earthly activity, seeks to derive the greatest possible benefit from it and thus remains in constant contact with matter, which he is supposed to overcome during his earthly life. This is all the more regrettable as he now also lacks the strength for spiritual endeavour, for his inclination for earthly possessions attracts all unfair forces which support him, while the good spiritual strength can gain less and less influence over him and thus the battle between good and evil strength has to be waged extraordinarily persistently and the human being's will is needed first in order to fight for a final victory. And this will must turn away from earthly desires, otherwise it will never be possible to gain the upper hand in the battle against evil. He who constantly has only his earthly advantage in mind cannot possibly enter into contact with the forces which have long since overcome all matter. Through this desire he himself erects a barrier between himself and the spiritual forces that want to help him, and the human will must first become active to tear down these barriers, only then will the good forces have access to him and be able to exert their influence. It is therefore extremely difficult for the materialist to accept what is spiritually offered.... he simply lacks any understanding for it because only that force has influence on him which is the most fervent opponent of what is offered to people as the purest truth. This force will naturally strengthen the human being's will to reject it. He lacks realization, he does nothing of his own accord to remedy this deficiency and therefore it will be unspeakably difficult to preach the gospel to a materialist. God's words will only be empty sound and his thoughts will soon wander off again to his earthly affairs, which completely dominate him and are therefore the greatest obstacle to the soul's further development. For this reason the human being must first learn to regocnize the futility of everything earthly before he can successfully start his soul's work; he must be made aware of the uselessness of his earthly life; he must be made aware of the transience of that which fills his whole thinking; it must be brought to his attention that the human being ultimately cannot stop the corruption of earthly things, his decline, if it is divine will that they should fall prey to destruction.... He will have to see all his possessions perish under his hands in order to finally reflect on the values that endure and outlast earthly death....

Les matérialistes - la possession terrestre est éphémère

Dans la vie terrestre la montée vers le Haut n’a pas de frein plus grand que la tentative continue d'augmenter ses biens terrestres. L'homme gâche ainsi tant de force qu’il devrait employer seulement pour un but, celui d'augmenter le bien spirituel. Plus il tend maintenant à la richesse terrestre, moins il peut s'occuper du développement continu de son âme et moins il pense à ce qu'il en sera de lui après sa mort. Il ne se laisse pas effrayer par de telles pensées qui se lèvent brièvement mais il tourne continuellement son attention seulement vers l'activité terrestre, il cherche le profit le plus grand possible et reste donc en constante union avec la matière qu’il doit justement vaincre pendant sa vie terrestre. Cela est encore plus déplorable, parce que maintenant il lui manque aussi la force pour tendre vers le spirituel, parce que sa tendance pour la possession terrestre attire toutes les forces impures qui le soutiennent, tandis que la Force spirituelle bonne peut acquérir toujours moins d’influence sur lui et donc la lutte entre la Force bonne et celle mauvaise doit être conduite avec une persévérance extraordinaire et pour cela il faut en premier lieu la volonté de l'homme pour conquérir une victoire définitive. Et cette volonté doit s'éloigner du désir terrestre, autrement il n'est jamais et encore jamais possible d’obtenir la suprématie dans la lutte contre le mal. Pour celui qui garde continuellement dans l'œil seulement son avantage terrestre, il est impossible d’entrer en contact avec les Forces qui ont dépassé la matière depuis longtemps. À travers ce désir lui-même érige une barrière entre lui et les Forces spirituelles qui veulent l'assister, et la volonté humaine doit devenir active pour abattre cette barrière, seulement alors les Forces bonnes pourront accéder et pourront faire valoir leur influence. Par conséquent pour un matérialiste il est particulièrement difficile d’accepter des cadeaux spirituels, il lui manque simplement la compréhension pour cela, parce que sur lui, seule cette force qui est justement le plus fervent adversaire de ce qui est offert aux hommes comme la plus pure Vérité, a une influence. Cette force augmentera naturellement la volonté de refus dans l'homme. Il lui manque la connaissance, tout seul il ne fait rien pour combler ce manque, et donc il sera indiciblement difficile de prêcher l'Évangile à un matérialiste. Les Paroles de Dieu seront seulement un écho vide, et ses pensées flotteront vite de nouveau à ses affaires terrestres qui le dominent complétement et de ce fait elles sont le plus grand empêchement à un développement ultérieur de l'âme. Donc l'homme doit apprendre à reconnaître la nullité de tout ce qui est terrestre avant qu'il puisse commencer avec succès un travail sur son âme ; il doit lui être indiqué l'inutilité de sa vie terrestre ; il doit lui être indiqué le caractère éphémère de ce qui remplit toute sa pensée ; il doit lui être mis devant les yeux qu’en fin de compte l'homme ne peut pas arrêter la décomposition et la décadence de ce qui est terrestre, parce que c’est la Volonté divine que tout tombe à la destruction. Il devra voir disparaître dans ses mains tout ce qu’il possède, pour se rappeler finalement des valeurs qui ont de la subsistance et durent au-delà de la mort terrestre.
