Monastic life?.... (Concerning a previous conversation)

As soon as the change begins in the life of a woman's soul her ability for spiritual acceptance will increase; and during this time all worldly experiences can have a retrospective effect on the state of the soul. For a period of years certain laws of nature are influencing the human body such that it cannot counteract them without damaging itself.... This compulsion is effectively necessary in order to preserve the human being's sexuality which, in turn, is absolutely essential for procreation. As long as this instinct is clearly expressing itself, as long as the person is always trying to accommodate it, the soul's desire for spiritual nourishment will not voice itself....

This becomes more understandable as the human being's desire for physical fulfilment of the natural instinct decreases. This very desire automatically ties the human being to earth as if he was chained.... he is unable to ascend spiritually, and therefore the development of his soul becomes doubtful. Consequently, no pure, God-pleasing relationship can ever be established from earth to the spiritual world as long as the body's desire still aims to fulfil its natural instinct, because these two worlds do not harmonise with each other. Although God Himself has placed this natural instinct into the human being he also has the option to resist it voluntarily. However, when people indulge in it without hesitation the soul's ascent will be obstructed.... whereas every resistance to this desire will also loosen the soul's chains.... And therefore it is extraordinary beneficial when the human being fights his craving during that time. Giving way to this instinct is only intended by God for the purpose of creating a new human being, otherwise every person should make an effort to live a pure life since he will provide the soul with undreamt of spiritual advantages.

Once this physical impulse is overcome, i.e. once it has been successfully resisted and thus the fulfilment of bodily lust is no longer banishing the soul in a state of constraint, it is free for its flight of ascent, and it will then be able to make uninhibited contact with the spiritual world. The human being was provided with every opposition in order to overcome it in life, and it is far more commendable to have resisted and defied the world with all its oppositions than to have deliberately avoided it. The Father in heaven knows of everyone's desire and the degree of love for Him, consequently He will also provide His children with trials in order to test their will of resistance, and this should be sufficient for you.... 여성의 혼의 생명에 변화가 이뤄지면, 모든 것을 영적으로 받아들이는 능력이 증가한다. 이 때에 체험한 이 땅의 모든 경험은 혼의 상태에 영향을 미칠 수 있다. 수년 동안 인체가 해를 입지 않고는 대항할 수 없는 방식으로 인체에 영향을 행사하는 특정한 자연의 법칙이 있다. 이 강제는 인간의 본능적 삶을 유지하기 위해 어느 정도 필요하고, 번식에 절대적으로 필요한 일이다.

이 욕망이 외적으로 충족되는 동안에는, 사람이 단지 이 욕망을 위하는 동안에는, 혼은 자신의 영의 양식을 향한 갈망에 침묵한다. 이런 일은 사람이 본능적 육체의 욕구에서 멀어질수록 더 이해하기가 쉽다. 이런 욕망은 무의식적으로 마치 사슬처럼 사람을 이 땅에 묶는다. 그는 영적으로 높은 곳으로 올라갈 수 없다. 때문에 육체의 욕망이 여전히 자연적인 본능을 채우려는 사람의 혼의 성장은 의문시되고, 이 땅과 영의 세계의 연결을 이루는, 하나님을 기쁘게 하는, 하나님과의 순수한 관계를 절대로 이룰 수 없다. 왜냐하면 이는 서로 조화를 일루 수 없는 두 세계이기 때문이다. 하나님 자신이 이런 본능을 사람에게 준 일은 사실이다. 그러나 하나님은 또한 사람이 스스로 동인이 되어 이런 본능에 저항할 수 있는 가능성을 주었다. 절제하지 않고 욕망을 채우는 혼에게는 위로 성장하는 길이 막하는 반면에 이 욕망을 저항하는 모든 일은 혼의 사슬을 풀어준다.

따라서 사람이 이 때에 자신의 욕망에 대항하여 싸울 때 매우 유익하다. 단지 새로운 생명체를 낳으려는 목적으로 이런 충동을 따르는 일은 하나님의 뜻이다. 그러므로 모든 사람은 아주 순수한 삶의 살려고 노력해야 한다. 이를 통해 그는 영적인 관점에서 상상하지 못한 유익을 혼에게 제공한다.

이제 육체적인 충동을 극복하자마자, 즉 충동에 성공적으로 저항하자마자, 육체적인 쾌락의 성취가 더 이상 혼을 묶임을 받는 상태에 빠지게 하지 못하고, 혼은 높은 곳으로 상승할 수 있게 된다. 혼은 이제 어떤 제한도 받지 않고 영의 세계와 연결을 이룰 수 있다. 이제 모든 저항은 사람이 삶에서 극복하도록 주어진다. 모든 장애물을 가지고 세상에 저항하고 극복하는 일이, 이런 저항을 고의적으로 회피하는 일보다 훨씬 더 공로가 크다. 하늘의 아버지는 자신을 향한 모든 갈망과 사랑의 정도를 알고 있다. 그러므로 아버지는 저항할 의지를 시험해볼 수 있도록 시험을 자신의 자녀들에게 준다. 이 정도이면 너희에게 충분하다.
