New year's eve.... anaesthetics....

You must accept every trial and show yourself equal to it. And when the lord admonishes you to be patient, humbly surrender to His will, for He alone knows what is right for you. At this time, everything on earth is endeavouring to numb itself. Only very few are quietly contemplating themselves and remembering their creator. And the lord sees with infinite melancholy the goings-on of His creatures who do not want to miss anything on earth that gives them pleasure and who give away without hesitation the benefits that only benefit the soul. They do not consider that they can stand at the turning point of life.... that they can still be in the midst of earthly life today and already stand at the gate to eternity tomorrow and that they will then leave earthly life barely prepared for eternity. All enjoyment of life must have an unfavourable effect on the soul, and damage is done to the soul to the same extent where the body indulges in the pleasures of life. In a time of uninhibited enjoyment of life the adversary is granted every power, he can take possession of people's senses and thus have a destructive effect on the soul, and all demons gain influence over it, for the human being is far more inclined to enjoy earthly life to the full than to occupy himself with spiritual things, and the army of spiritual beings in the beyond truly has no easy task if it also wants to exert its influence on the children of earth. True realization holds man back from such unworthy activity, but to find or keep the union with the spiritual world is unspeakably difficult for earthly man. Therefore both, the good as well as the bad spiritual beings, develop an indescribable activity in order to draw people into their spell, for the evil power certainly has considerable advantage.... it retains the upper hand because man's will is too much concerned with matter and only sees his happiness in intoxication and the fulfilment of his desires. All the splendour of the world prevents the inner vivid contemplation of the eternal deity; man is so far removed from all that is purely spiritual.... he stands in darkness, for earthly splendour gives the soul no light.... it hungers and starves, even though the body revels in abundance, and there is little chance that in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the world the earthly child will let its thoughts wander upwards and willingly separate itself from the earthly splendour, which is after all only appearance and can offer no advantage to the soul. Who can resist such temptations in time, who pays attention to bring the light of the soul and willingly lets the body do without, will visibly stand in blessing, because the spiritual beings are extremely willing to serve such endeavourers, they strengthen every still weak power, help the struggling soul, and from seemingly uselessly spent hours such great advantages arise for the soul that man only wins where the body denies itself joy and pleasure in worldly relationship. For the happiness of the soul stands above all earthly joy of the body.... But this is incomparably more valuable than the hours of unclouded enjoyment of life, for the latter is transient, but the former endures for all eternity....

Silvester.... Betäubungen....

Eine jede Prüfung mußt du auf dich nehmen und dich ihr gewachsen zeigen. Und wenn der Herr dich mahnet zur Geduld, so ergib dich demütig in Seinen Willen, denn Er allein weiß, was dir frommt. In dieser Zeit ist auf Erden alles bemüht, sich zu betäuben. Nur sehr wenige halten still Einkehr bei sich selbst und gedenken ihres Schöpfers. Und es sieht mit unendlicher Wehmut der Herr das Treiben Seiner Geschöpfe, die nichts auf Erden missen wollen, was ihnen Genuß bereitet, und die ohne Bedenken hingeben die Wohltaten, die nur der Seele zugute kommen. Sie bedenken nicht, daß sie an der Wende des Lebens stehen können.... daß sie heut noch mitten im irdischen Leben und schon morgen an der Pforte zur Ewigkeit stehen können und daß sie kaum vorbereitet für die Ewigkeit dann das irdische Leben verlassen. Aller Lebensgenuß muß sich ungünstig für die Seele auswirken, und es wird im gleichen Maß der Seele Schaden zugefügt, wo der Körper im Wohlleben schwelgt. In einer Zeit ungehemmten Lebensgenusses ist dem Widersacher jegliche Macht eingeräumt, er kann Besitz ergreifen von den Sinnen der Menschen und so zerstörend auf die Seele einwirken, und alle Dämonen gewinnen Einfluß auf diese, ist doch der Mensch viel eher geneigt, das irdische Leben in vollen Zügen zu genießen, als sich mit geistigen Dingen zu befassen, und es hat das Heer jenseitiger Geistwesen wahrlich keine leichte Arbeit, will es auch seinen Einfluß auf die Erdenkinder geltend machen. Die wahre Erkenntnis hält den Menschen von so unwürdigem Treiben zurück, doch den Zusammenschluß mit der geistigen Welt zu finden oder ihn zu behalten ist unsagbar schwer für den Erdenmenschen. Daher entwickeln beide, die guten wie die schlechten Geistwesen, eine unbeschreibliche Tätigkeit, um die Menschen in ihren Bannkreis zu ziehen, denn es hat die böse Macht wohl erheblichen Vorteil.... sie behält die Oberhand, weil der Wille des Menschen zu sehr der Materie nachgeht und nur im Rausch und in der Erfüllung seiner Begierde sein Glück sieht. Aller Glanz der Welt verhindert die innere anschauliche Betrachtung der ewigen Gottheit, es ist der Mensch so fern von allem Reingeistigen.... er steht in der Finsternis, denn die irdische Pracht gibt der Seele kein Licht.... diese hungert und darbt, wenngleich der Körper im Überfluß schwelgt, und es ist wenig Möglichkeit, daß mitten im Trubel der Welt das Erdenkind die Gedanken nach oben schweifen läßt und sich willig trennt von dem irdischen Glanz, der doch nur Schein ist und keinen Vorteil der Seele bieten kann. Wer sich rechtzeitig solchen Versuchungen widersetzen kann, wer achtet, das Licht der Seele zu bringen, und den Körper willig entbehren läßt, wird sichtbar im Segen stehen, denn die geistigen Wesen sind solchen Bemühenden äußerst dienstbereit, sie stärken jede noch schwache Kraft, helfen der ringenden Seele, und aus scheinbar unnütz verlebten Stunden erwachsen der Seele so große Vorteile, daß der Mensch nur gewinnt, wo der Körper sich Freude und Genuß in weltlicher Beziehung versagt. Denn über aller irdischen Freude des Körpers steht das Glück der Seele.... Dieses aber ist unvergleichlich wertvoller als die Stunden ungetrübten Lebens-Genusses, denn letzterer ist vergänglich, jenes aber bleibt bestehen bis in alle Ewigkeit....
